I am quietly hoping for a Pink one -after all 'pink polycarbonate' is the new 'black'.....

Maybe due to its size, third parties will start making cases for it.?

;)

That's definitely true. A nice transparent case would look pretty nice especially if it's got additional space for third party TB accessories, like space for more connected drives for a nice all in one enclosure. Kickstarter somebody!!!

1 CPU beats dual CPU's from 2 years ago. That's quite a feat.

It's 3 years, and if I have a 3 year old system, how is it progress for me when the new mac pros just beat the old system. I have not read anywhere there is goof to be a dual cou Mac Pro, so the way I see it performance has not improved since the old system. And this is all intel anyway. If they have a dual CPU version hen we are talking.

There won't be a DP model and no, it isn't progress in terms of CPU power for you. This is happening because barely anyone brought the DP Mac Pros. There just isn't a real market for them as far as Apple are concerned.

There IS a market. The problem is the Intel tax.

Ill stick to xbox one, ps4 and iMac for gaming. Until Apple finally starts working companies to have games optimized for OSX

Really?

You read an article about the Mac Pro and all you can think of is games?

The new Mac Pro may look like a toy but its not supposed to be used that way.

Precisely.
I'm thinking about the monster audio and video sessions I'll be able to deal with.
Farewell Protools HD.

a round case.. ??

lol

Your previous racks will be useless now...... since round objects won't fit...

Looks like more money to spend..... I bet people will probably start making round racks too :p just to accommodate this trashcan.

still.... I say unique design, because no one else will ever do this..

You'll be the only business in the block to have one :) Just like the only person in the street to have a Macbook Pro.

So what will the whiners complain about now that a single CPU is as fast as previous dual CPUs?

I'm sure they will find something...

That you can have two of these processors on another platform? I'll be fine with my 2012MP thanks.

are Pro users satisfied with new design ?

Sorry but this is stupid. Do you really think every user needs three external drives, a DVD burner, Blu-Ray player, audio interface, video capture interface, and a fibre channel schnittzen?

This, to me, is the genius of Apple's new design. Give everyone the core, then people can extend it how they want. Also, seriously get a single big RAID box! And how many users burn/read DVDs or Blu-Rays on a regular basis?

I say this as I would love a MP with a great CPU, but I don't care at all about any of that other stuff cluttering that picture. So yes please, give me a desktop that's way smaller and still does everything I need to do!

No, the problem is that the main market for multi-processor systems is servers in the enterprise and that is who Intel, and your precious AMD, are pricing for. There isn't a big market willing to pay for what you get by spending more than $200 on a CPU for workstation usage. Intel's pricing is hardly obscene for what it enables someone to do.

I see people commenting on the image of the new Mac Pro with a bunch of external devices and cables attached to it, and I think to myself - why would PROFESSIONALS care either way? It's typically the home/mainstream users who care about how minimalist their desks are and how a machine fits into their decor.

As a professional who has owned Apple towers since before they were PowerPC, I can attest to the fact that almost all of them had been placed under a desk, off to the side, out of the way. Only in a few cases have I had the unit up on my desk in plain sight.

What's interesting is this is the first 'tower' from Apple that I actually really WANT to place on my desk next to my cinema displays. All the other bits that are connected to it can stay under my desk or out of the way somewhere - just like external drives, audio interface and others that are connected to my 09 model.

Add the expense of placing internal drives in expensive Thunderbolt 2.0 chassises:

- 4 x SATA II HDD's
- 1x LG Blu-Ray Burner
- 1x 256GB Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G

Pro's are split on external storage; increased wired devices negate point of a small platform, built-in components lack GPU and PCIe expandability, 1 processor.

Everytime I see people complaining about storage, their mind focus on dedicated storage. Am I the only one to put my media libraries and archives on an external SHARED network appliance?

The smart move for Apple would be to offer distributed storage building blocks, like somewhat bigger time capsule you could stack up on your network, deciding to optimise redundancy and read speed vs increased storage space each time you add a new one. THAT is the future of storage.
Read Ceph or GlusterFS appliances like Apple know how to to them, offering complex tech made easy to play with.

Wrong supposition. It is not designed for general serious usage.

The cooling system is the real great idea here, it is quite an efficient design compared to pizza boxes.
Too bad you can only fit 2,8 of them in 19", price aside.

.

Nope, I have 2 NAS devices as well :)

I think i have a hard on over these benchmarks! :D

I guess it doesn't take much for you. :D

If you stop to think about it for a bit, those benchmarks aren't particularly impressive all things considered. There are machines that are hitting the 40k scores on Geekbench.

You want to know what's an impressive update in performance? The new iPhone 5S, compared to the older iPhone 5, that thing screams...of course it's an iPhone which means it's limited in other ways.

Back to the score, it will be interesting to see actual real-world performance tests, at this stage it's all quite nonsensical...plus there's the issue of the price too which I suspect will be higher than people imagine.

No, even when they were competitive, Opteron had reasonable prices, unlike Xeon.

It is a monopoly in practice now.

The cooling system is a revision of the Cube's.

It is acceptable as a Cube successor, not as a Mac Pro replacement.

I do but NAS is far too slow as a primary working storage space. With projects regularly in the multiple terabyte range, dedicated storage is essential, unless you've got 50K+ to spend on a decent SAN.

It really annoys me to hear people whine about the cost of these machines. First, if you've wanted a new one it's not like you haven't had YEARS to save.

Possibly the most ridiculous and thoughtless statement I've heard in a while... and I was recently forced to watch FOX News.

Most people don't save around a computer. And many people cannot afford to pay thousands for a new machine-- even if they need it. No, not everyone has money or is currently being paid for the work they do. I have friends whose creative talents put yours to shame, but who would not be able to afford this machine.

Second, they're called a MacPro for a reason...Pro, as in "Professional."

Pff. Apple hasn't made Pro machines since the PowerMac 9600. Okay, fine, the old Mac Pros count. But this isn't a pro machine. It's a souped-up G4 Cube (minus AltiVec, so I'm not even impressed).

Some of us actually...

<insert self-aggrandizing, smug comment here>

These machines are the workhorses that get our jobs done quickly and efficiently day-in and day-out. Finally, whatever the cost is, it's easily made back many times over by the job it helps us do and the productivity that is gained with it's speed and stability.

While I don't doubt there's truth to this, I doubt you've done a cost-benefit analysis. Also, you could build your own Hackintosh for cheaper.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to my Mac Pro and generating some solid income with it.

Congratulations.. a company or individual pays you a very small portion of their income for your work. *Slow clap*
