MagSafe would be a lifesaver. No more tripping and flying my iPhone across the room!

Magsafe would be stupid because the phone doesn't weigh enough for the magsafe connection to be effective. If you trip on your cord with your "magsafe" connected iPhone, your phone would fly equally far... Think about this...

That shell doesn't look 18% thinner as many reports are saying and it also looks wider. WHAT GIVES?

Surely a magnet would be strong enough to just pull the entire device with the cable instead of just popping out? A magsafe cable on a Phone/iPod seems a bit pointless.

I agree. A magnet doesn't seem worth it. Plus sometimes I play a game while plugged into power, and a firm connection is nice in that case—firmer than a tiny magnet could achieve.

I don’t expect it will be MagSafe.

But having a reversible cable that doesn’t have a front and back would be very nice!

Next to go is the headphone jack. Look how dominant it is!
I don't get angry at Apple changing their ports. The current iPhone port has had a good life, but now has become a limitation. Just like MagSafe 1 became the thickness limitation for the rMBP.
They have to change ports at some point. This new iOS port and MagSafe 2 will have long lives themselves. Next step: wireless.

For me, MagSafe is about plugging my MacBook in with no pressure. Just put the cord near the port.

Apple makes so much money on these dock connectors that they would be foolish to adopt micro usb. Plus, if they adopt micro usb, now all those new iHomes work with android... apple doesn't want that.

Even if it doesn't pop out like the MacBook equivalent, the addition would only improve upon the current design. After all, the current cable takes the whole device with it.

New iPhone is wider than the 4S

From the picture, it looks like the supposed new iPhone is wider. I thought it was going to be the same width. Wider is always better. ;)

imho the speaker grill looks ugly.

Agreed. I don't like how it's unsymmetrical like the speaker and mic on our 4/4s's.

Although this is looking more and more unlikely, I hope Apple has something else in the works as far as the whole phone goes. I would love come introduction day for Apple to show us a completely different design than what we've been seeing on these leaked images over the past few months.

Please be a fake design! lol

EU Universal Charger?

So this doesn't fit the Micro USB universal charger the EU has demanded does it? So you still need an adapter? I bet a micro USB will go in there and screw something up.

Surely the magnet they *choose* will be strong enough to snap the cable in easily and securely, but not so strong as to allow the device to be hurled across the room?

Aren't these the guys who published this video of the "iPad" running a (bogus) Ikea catalogue app?

Hint: they are.

Interesting. I hope it supports both a magsafe like connection and a normal plug connection. Magsafe would work great for docks, just put it in and take it out easily without having to hold the dock down while you remove it. Also no more flipping your iPhone off the table when charging at a computer.

The normal plug connection would be useful as then you could still get cheap OEM cables. But it will probably be Magsafe only so you have to pay Apple $30 for a replacement cable

Something tells me in the final design, those speaker and microphone holes will be laser cut so they aren't so large and get stuck with something.

This phone will sell out everywhere
I haven't decided if I'm going to make the Android jump with so much invested in iOS already

So if it is MagSafe®, should the magnet be in the phone or the cable? Whatever the technology I vote for symmetry.

Gosh, this has been long overdue for an improvement.

Bets on how long before Samsung copies this idea? I say 6 months.

Yea no...Much better versatility with Micro-Usb, as opposed to proprietary connector from Apple that you need to buy a bunch of adapters for.
