I'd actually be curious how to manage to grab your phone when it's right side up that prevents this? Maybe it depends on the pocket. I keep mine in a front pocket, and usually wear jeans.

I keep it in the front right pocket of my pants (usually jeans) and grab it between my thumb and middle finger, allowing the phone to swivel down until the lower right corner rests against my palm. Then I slip my pinky under the bottom edge of the phone to ensure I don't drop it.

---

I just tried it going in upside down, and I suppose it does feel slightly more natural in that it doesn't require a swivel movement, but my OCD won't allow it :p

Why is every edge overlapped and not fitted correctly?

What's with all the obsession about speaker grill holes on the bottom. They are for sound not for viewing. The true advantage is stereo sound. Lighten up. I hope you're not counting the holes on the bottom of your iMac or on the Mac Pro and obsessing over whether they are even.

Because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ;)

And one of the USB cable connectors can handle that. The discussion (if you'll go back and look) was that USB isn't up to all the functions that the current 30-pin connector provides. USB would work great for charging and sync'ing and all the additional functions can be provided via WiFi or Bluetooth.

Which is why i said we still need cables. Your quote made it seem like we didn't have use for cables any more because it's 2012.

Looks like the way the glass bands fit on to me. Just guessing however, 'cause I'm not really sure what else you could mean.

Also, these pics show the FCC markings, which I haven't seen on a leak yet.

Very neat

A MagSafe plug for iDevices would be very helpful. I have tripped on an iPad plug once or twice before.

MicroUSB is much more limited than Apple's Dock connector. It's great for charging and basic data transfer, but not for much more.

(genuine query here) Could you elaborate? What can the dock connector do that cant be done over USB? I'm admittedly no expert in this, and haven't been following it, but I was under the impression that you can pretty much do anything over USB if you have the hardware and software on each end.

Obviously the cable that ships that does Dock > USB is just a USB cable, and still uses just the 4 pins that you'd use if you were running over USB. The dock connector (current 'wide' one) has really only been used for USB functionality in most cases.

He's saying that a microusb cable may still work in the hole. A number of phones do this (HTC ones as I recall) - they use a proprietary connector that also supports putting a microusb cable into the hole. This would obviously make sense and be very handy for everyone, and not for just passing EU regs.

Either way, it will need to support Micro-USB when being sold in the EU. Weather this is via a adaptor or directly on the phone doesn't really matter though.

The new MagSafe 2 is notably weaker than the old MagSafe. Weak enough to avoid this problem? Maybe so.

Yeah Magsafe 2 was a bit flimsy. That's one of the reasons we now have "Magsafe 2.5" on the MBPRetina, it's supposed to be a lot stronger than the L-shaped one. That said, I've never had an issue with the L-Shaped one on my MBA.

i'm guessing this is out of the question with a mag safe adapter? saved my iPhone a few times already that way ...

Mag safe rules. However it's not enough for me to plop down another 2 year contract with a provider for the "discount".

And there's no way I'll be dropping 600+ on a phone lol

Hard Day

Another Apple expert and a personal friend of Jony.

Amazing!

You "Must" be having a hard day!
It was just my opinion, relax and go have a coffee, try and return with a bit better attitude...;)

9 pins is all that it takes to use USB 3.0 .. just nine, no more, no less!
And the way you disperse them in the connector can make it so it connects either way like magsafe (without the magnets part)

Speaker Grill

imho the speaker grill looks ugly.

I agree completely here. This is hideous and almost completely confirms for me that this is an apple-leaked red herring.

The leaked enclosure looks pretty damn good, and is just believable enough to have the supposedly indie-experts all but confirming this is the new iphone. However, they need it to be somewhat subpar so that when the actual design is released no one prefers the leak to the actual.

But there are some major design flaws here that simply would not get past Jony Ive, who let me remind you has complete autonomy when it comes to design.

He would have went for much smaller/finer holes such as the ones we see on macbook and ipad. Apple even makes microscopic holes on some machines for the "breathing" light feature. Additionally, there is no reason for them to be unsymmetrical and they simply wouldn't have let this happen. I understand that the headphone port is now on the bottom, but the original openings for the speaker on the 4/4s are tiny, and withe miniature new 9 pin port, there would have been space to make these perfectly symmetrical.

The two tone back really is just a no go. The Jony design ethos has always been to strip everything down that does not NEED to be there. I can understand there may possibly be antenna issues with a full aluminum back, but i have to imagine there would have been an alternate solution to this issue. The seams are horrible, especially at the very edges of the device.

Additionally, the camera lens on the back is tangent to the seam which is a HUGE no no in the design world. On top of that, the radius of the lens does not correspond concentrically to the radius of the corner curve, again, simply bad design.

These are literally first draft errors that would be corrected immediately and i believe these are just the kinds of things apple would put in a fake leak that is supposed to wow, but not all the way...

What I'm personally hoping for, but what i know feel is highly unlikely is a single unibody glass enclosure. There were some rumors about this a couple months back going further into the relationship between Jobs and Corning and the new Godzilla glass that they were creating. I don't recall exactly but I believe it was said that jobs dreamed of a unibody glass enclosure for iphone. Being that this is the last one Steve had a hand in, i believe we could see something that would change up the game like this. Especially since there was no form factor change last go around.

???

REALLY !!! you think having a magnetic connection effects the rate of charging o_O

sometimes my (lack of) faith in the education system is proved correct

Or...

One could assume the OP was talking about the amount of Volts / amps put out by a laptop MagSafe adapter. Provided the internals were built to handle the current, it would likely charge an iPhone / iPad faster if it was built to accept it.

I guess I am giving the OP the benefit of the doubt before jumping on their back ;) .
