I personally prefer FaceID to TouchID. It might not be perfect now but I'm sure they can improve it with a software update once they iron out all the bugs. My main gripe with TouchID is that my hands sweat like a crazy. They literally drip in summer, this causes the TouchID to not recognize my finger and I have to keep trying and then have to enter my passcode. Otherwise I have to dry my hands and TouchID. FaceID will eliminate that problem for me. So I am all for this. Bring it on!

In Retrospect, I also asked does somebody think Apple would really release a product that would compromise someone else's privacy? But then look at the history of this company and what they value. Security. It's not just about making electronics products, it's the technology they invest into features like Face ID that protects your security and privacy. Which is exactly why they would never release something they didn't feel had a maturity To the next level of security.
I don’t think they’d intentionally do anything to risk security just like I don’t think Samsung intentionally released exploding phones, as an example. The underlying problem is that, at the end of the day, you have to place a great deal of trust that what you’re given and what you’re being told is good enough. Again, just saying it’s worth talking about.

Yes and a mugger could force you to unlock your phone. So what? I never heard of it happening with Touch ID and I doubt I will with Face ID either.

You guys try so hard.

Exactly.

Let's say the mugger runs off with my unlocked phone. Then what?

The mugger won't know my AppleID and password... which is part of Activation Lock. So the mugger might get to use my phone for about 20 minutes... until I use Find My iPhone to disable it remotely.

Everyone talks about muggers stealing your phone... but they forget that an iPhone is pretty useless if you're not the owner.

Hello . I have a couple of questions which couldn't find an answer .
1.Is there an option to turn off face ID unlocking ?
2.How secure is face ID when you face is "forced" in front of the phone ?

1) We won't know until it's released.

2) As secure as TouchID when your finger is forced on the phone. In fact, I would say it's even more secure because your eyes have to be open and you have to be looking at the phone for it to unlock. You can close your eyes and it won't unlock. So just keep those eyes closed mmmmmkay?

Interesting and you never even used it hands-on. Wow....

Honestly, I can't see it being worse then TouchID for me. If TouchID fails for me most of the time because of my constant sweating then FaceID will help me. I don't have to use it hands on to know it will make a massive difference to me. As people have said before, Apple wouldn't release FaceID if the tech wasn't ready or if it would be worse then TouchID. The backlash Apple would face and the amount of recalls will hurt Apple. They are so confident about it and I have no reason to doubt them.

Edit: I will regard the FaceID demo fail as human error on Apple's part.

FaceID will continue to mature the same way TouchID matured. I will happily continue buying the iPhone every year as I do now. Money is no issue to me honestly.

totally agree on sweaty/oily finger tips or weather moist on the button. 50% unreliable for me.

I was never able to get touch ID to work reliably enough to be worth the frustration when it (frequently) failed. It's one of the very rare cases in my experience of "does not work as advertised."
