Speaking about analogies... How about this car analogy. All cheap cars are made of metal. The most expensive cars (like Lamborghini) have metal frame but use fiberglass for exterior panels. This is how SGSIII is made too. It has metal inside and plastic cover. This is also not dissimilar to real trucks/SUVs (frame construction) vs crossovers (unibody). Although to say that iPhone 5 has unibody is a real stretch since all of its sides are made of distinctly different materials.

Anyhow, your statements about "cheap" Samsung design would have some validity if you could find a single SGSIII owner who experienced problems due to plastic case. Ironically, the phone that cause most problems to its owners because of the case construction is iPhone 4S. Using glass body was a really stupid idea.

I dont mind the s3, its alot better than most androids but all of the show models ive picked up there are already cracks on the back plastic. This is why ill stick to apple for now, because i believe the build is superior

There are plenty of reviews on Amazon with owners complaining about the plastic housing.

Guys, just admit it that aluminum is not a good material for cell phone cases. Consider how much you sucrifice in order to get this shiny skin:
* replaceable battery
* memory card (unibody is not the only reason for that but still)
* simultaneous data and voice on CDMA/LTE networks (not enough antennas)
* NFC (aluminum blocks it)
* wireless charging

lilo777,

Do you own a SGS3?

Not everyone has to admit to your opinion. If u like plastic phones buy an android. I like the aluminium iphone. Beer is stored in aluminium, it has to be good.

I looked at Amazon reviews anf found two complaining about the plastic. Both were from the same guy (Anace) ant the go as follows:

BUILT VERY CHEAP, JUST LIKE OTHER SAMSUNG DEVICES... STAY AWAY FROM IT.. IT BROKE WHEN IT FELL DOWN FROM A COUCH HIGHT. THE SCREEN SHATTARED.

(capitalization is NOT mine) He say that plastic broke when phone fell from sofa which is impossible for this type of plastic. The guy simply has an agenda.

Not being funny then but why are you here arguing the toss about 2 phones you don't own?

Why not? This issue is not specific to just these two phones. Besides, don't we all have opinions about things we do not necessarily own?

Because your wrong when it comes to the build quality of the SGS3 that's why! and this is not what this thread is for. If your so confident in your ASSUMPTION about how well made the SGS3 is go post it in the correct forum, I'll be over shortly;)

I remember my Apple //c with a whole 128k of memory and 64k of that reserved for the system. I had a whopping 64k to use. Imagine my delight when I moved up to a 386 PC which could access a while 640k of memory AND it had a 20MB hard drive! Whooo-hooo! Man, I was in the fast lane!

Today, my PHONE has RAM that is fifty times the amount of hard drive space I had back then and 3200 times the total storage capacity. Oh yeah, a processor that is slightly ahead of the 16mHz 386 I had back then too. :D

Then of course, only cheap beer is sold in aluminum cans...

Let's not forget....1GB of SAMSUNG RAM. Quick y'all, take your rams out of your 5s as soon as you get it!:cool:

Yeah, half the memory and double the performance. I'm sorry, the S3 is NOT a great device. It's clumsy, cheap plastic, loaded with bloat, and isnt as smooth as people claim it is. I sat down with it for a while and was nervous that it might make me second guess getting the iPhone 5. Well, im happy to say it had exactly the opposite effect. It's got a lot of bells and whistles, most of them useless in real world use (although it did have a few cool things), and that's about it. IMO iPhone blows it away. And the build quality doesn't even compare a little bit. Keep ur S3. And I'll gladly keep my iPhone.

Using something and owning something are two TOTALLY different things. You need to fiddle for it for at least 30 days. But I have a feeling you didn't.

When I pick up a s3 in the samsung stand and I turn it over and there are cracks in it already I dont need to own it for 30 days to realise its built cheaply. A shame cos the phone itself I think is quite good.

First of all...good news. Secondly, what is with all this blind Apple fandom? Comments right now say "spec bull..." and "who cares" but the moment the spec sheet on the Macs comes out it's "OMG! I told you Apple is better than Windows!"

This sort of crazed Apple "Yes Man" fever is what almost killed Apple when it started shoving out crappy products like printers, Newton, and point-and-shoot cameras in the past.

Apple makes great products...yes. I own a ton of them. But they don't always make perfect products.

/End Rant

Not according to these fanboys. Belive me, when Apple falls down you'll see how soooo many opinions change. People will leave Apple and the process starts over again.

So did you own it or not? And a using a product at the store never counts becaue it's not always a true representation. LIke sometimes when you go to the store and you the f$$^^d up buttons on a 3DS or 360.

Why would I buy it if the one they are using to sell me the phone is broken. Would Apple ever have iphones with cracked displays in the apple store? Maybe its not that bad but my only experience is cracked plastic so no I am not going to spend all that money (they are not cheap to buy sim free like I do) on a phone to try it out.

First, there's a 30-day return period.

Second, your logic makes very little sense. Apple has a controlled (VERY STRICT) enviroment so if a phone were to break, it would be replaced on the spot. I was testing out an iPhone (@ Walmart no less) that had a cracked display and wouldn't turn on. So I should assume all iPhones are like that?

Also, Samsung doesn't really have its own stores in the U.S. so it's up to 3rd party retailers and most of the time they don't' even have a live display.

I'm just saying, I think you already knew you didn't want it and had an automatic bias without legitly giving a product a chance. I can guarantee you if the iPhone was cracked then you'd still buy it.

Im in Poland and im not buying a contract so no 30day return (i dont think), i was looking at the s3 in a samsung stand in the local mall, its not a shop but 100% samsung. I am not a fanboy, i am not bias, i was trying out the s3 with a genuine opinion to buy it. Even if u take the apple part of my reply out. Here I am in a Samsung stand trying their flagship phone and its full of cracks. Its not good business on their part. As I said before its a shame cos I like the rest of the phone.

And yes if I saw a broken iphone id still buy it.
Why? Because ive had 5 years with apple products and I know what they are like. I dont have experience with samsung galaxy so what ive used in the stand is what I have to go on.

#1. Apple's choice, It could easily have a removable battery, if there were a need for such a thing, but there isn't, If you really can't stop to charge your phone between days then there are plenty of external battery chargers and battery cases.

#2. has nothing to do with the case and everything to do with apple hiding the filesystem and tiering prices based on storage size.

#3. Has nothing to do with the case materials. I don't agree with apple's choice but it meant adding an extra IC, and Apple loves simplicity.

#4. Nobody uses it, and one side of the case is glass, not aluminum so it's not really an issue of the case blocking it. This is a phone, it's designed to send and receive radio signals.

#5. wireless charging would be awesome, if public places provided charging pads, like airports and coffee shops and hotels but I've yet to see that, so it's use is very limited.

Samsung is capable of making some very nice hardware. They lead in televisions, home appliances, and of coarse memory, I like Samsung, they compete viciously, and put out some very high quality products, but I don't like the S3, it just doesn't seam like a very good phone, I don't like it's size or it's OS.
