The only 2 reasons someone would buy iPhone X is to show off or has no other major device to work with so it uses only iPhone for everything, only then I can somehow justify the pricing.. damn Apple's greediness.

I'm not price sensitive.
I bought an Essential PH-1 but plan to return it for the X.
The X is to lure people like me away from Android. With no X, I would not even be thinking of jumping ship.
The design of the X with no home button and a 5.8" screen in a compact package is what got me.
The Essential PH-1 is to Android as the X is to the iPhone.
These are the only two phones I have looked at.
The iPhone wins on camera, storage and case options.
If the Essential had accessory support I wouldn't be thinking of sending it back.

These ARE computers... don't be fooled with the name iPhone.

I agree with you to a point. I understand miniaturization is expensive, but let's not pretend like Apple doesn't pad the margins excessively these days compared to other companies doing the same or in some cases have been doing the same prior to the X.

This is very fair pricing, to be honest. I'm also happy to see Apple keep older generation phones in stock for people who can't afford the latest and greatest. I love that they did that.

They are continuing to rip off Canadians though. Our dollar is at 80 cents US and the phones are all overpriced by $50-$80 each after currency conversion. The iPhone SE should be $425 CDN, but it's being sold for $469 CDN.

Apple has absolutely been guilty of that in the past (and still are in some product categories like the Mac Mini still selling for the same price as when it was released 3 years ago), but the phones are very competitively priced. The SE for $349 is a steal, in my opinion. There is nothing that competes with it in the 4" market. Nothing even comes close, as far as I can tell. $449 for the 6S is also an insane value. Even by today's standards, the 6S is a respectable high-end flagship phone.

Don't forget that Samsung and Google and even LG have outrageously priced phones in the high-end. The X compares very favorably to those devices.

Vancouver is awesome.

You know, the most exciting thing about this production was the first 2 minutes, when the lights were off, and we heard Steve Jobs over the PA. I go back to Jobs' announcing the original iPhone 10 years ago, and the contrast is absolutely stark. Yes, the iPhone X is a nice device with lots of geegaws and ooh-lalas, but Phil just somehow didn't connect to me in a way to make me want to spend a thousand dollars on this phone. You could tell, even the Apple fans in the audience was looking desperately for reasons to cheer. Onward.

Heavily leaning toward the iPhone 8. Never liked the plus models, as they're too large. The X is an absurd price to pay for a phone. If I bought the X, I'd feel like I'm throwing $300 in the trash.

Except Samsung none of the Android phone manufacturers are making any profit, Motorola was sold to Lenovo, now HTC is on the block for sale. Samsung makes profit because they almost all components that go into a phone. That's why Apple profit margins look higher, anything is greater that 0.

Am I missing something or does the iPhone X top notch not interfere with the screen when watching movies, playing games, using apps, etc.? There must be a solution here, seems like too much of an oversight - or Apple just doesn’t care.

Its funny how there used to be just 1 iPhone, the current model and that was it, then they started keeping the old model, then they added the old, old, old model but updating just the internals, now we have 5 different models at one time. Kind of a stocking issue for carriers I suspect. Still more bummed about the X not shipping for 1.5 months, but oh well my cash can sit with me for a longer period of time.

I am comparing the specs for the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 8 Plus and about the only significant differences (aside from price, of course) seem to be the chip, charging and form factor (minor on form). 30% faster graphics doesn't seem too big a driver for me. I'm very seriously leaning towards a 7 Plus at this point. The X is WAY outside my price range (would rather get a new MacBook for that).

If it makes you feel any better, they are ripping off people in the eu a lot worse. The SE is at 419eur, which at the moment comes to 501 usd ...

Then there is the iPhone x, sitting at 1.159 eur, or 1380 usd.

So yeah, I don't know who will be buying these phones, but at this rate Apple will have to add payment by kidney in a few years, or have a trade in option where you sell them your car to get the latest iPhone.

I could get TWO one plus 5 128 gig - 8gig ram for the price of the iPhone x, and still have 40 eur left.

I seriously think they are In The process of seeing how much $$$ they can squeeze out of folks before they just stop buying. Let's not forget that a this point they are essentially still selling a 4 year old iPhone 5s for a near premium price.
