iDevices are full of Samsung electronics. I am surprised you are buying them. I suspect that you even prefer them to be using Samsung electronics (as opposed to, say, electronics from LG).

Ha. This is a good point. I should have said Samsung devices :D

No, just no.

I'm beginning to think any <whatever>emoji prefix we like to call them, as "play-time"

show off to ya friends,,, sticker packs with iMessage,,,, iOS was never like this..

Its ok introducing a bit of fun, but not lets go over-board here Apple..... Its still supposed to be a product

The reason folks are frustrated with this article is that you can't help but wonder what resources Apple spend on this crap? Yet, we can't get a simple update to the MacBook Air or Mac Mini. We can't get mouse support for iOS on iPads even though jail breaks have existed since iPad launch in 2010.

I guess this stuff appeals to someone, and Apple feels they need to keep creating new customizable emoji to compete. Seems like a huge waste of time to me......but, so does the obsession with thinner laptops in shades of rose gold sporting unusable keyboards that fail when exposed to a speck of dust. Misplaced priorities.
I wonder how many resources Samsung used in making their version?

This is so hilarious. Samsung copies Apple comments say “ Samsung copies Apple and they are so unoriginal”
Apple copies Samsung and these are the kind of comments that appear. Ridiculously biased. Competition and appropriating competitor’s ideas make phones better for the end user.
Wow! A pro-Apple bias on a site called "MacRumors"?

Color me amazed.

I see these Memojis as being useful when being added to videos. I created a custom avatar of myself in the free app "Emoji Me" and then used them on a layer of training videos I produced. Using Memoji, I can create a better looking version of myself and help identify my videos as well as add a visual that will keep the learners interested and coming back for more.
While most people only see cute kid only uses for these tools, imaginative professionals working within tight budgets see potential. Think about those music videos that we recently saw on YouTube using Apple's animojis. No need to build fancy sets, no need to have expensive models, makeup artists, and dancers.
These Memoji videos can be created on iPhone X and then exported to an app on an iPad like LumaFusion for advanced multi layered video editing.

It's the changing demographics that drive these additions. Apple and Samsung are targeting younger users to lock into their systems. Obviously Android is not a Walled Garden like iOS, but none the less is a system to keep a user in. Many will find displeasure in this opinion, however, I firmly believe Memoji/Animoji are looking to lock the 12-16 years old market into an OS. Im not offering a positive or negative on Memoji/Animoji. I simply form a demographic opinion from who I receive them from. :apple:

That’s how I viewed all the (stupid) app integrations that iOS 11 (was it 10?) brought to Messages. The first time I saw the fireworks thing I thought “damn, the teens are going to go nuts over this”.

Imagine my dismay when these started trickling into family chats...

An option to turn off receipts of Memoji/Animoji would be a nice option for many in my family. ;)

I like how Samsung does it automatically, simply by scanning your face. Apple needs to do the same thing and then just simply let you tweak it with its current options if needed. I sadly kinda like Samsungs better right off the bat! But Apple seems to be more flexible and customizable.

Have you seen Apple's revenue sources? Macs barely make 10% of their yearly profits. Iphone, (hint kids use this meme oji stuff), generates huge profits, like 85%! Apple allocates resources based on return, not based on what random people on a forum want.

From when I first saw AR emoji from Samsung I didn't really like it much but now seeing the two together I understand why. Samsung put themselves dead in the middle of the uncanny valley. Their avatar looks enough like the actual person to cause a "Hey, that's Jim" reaction but at the same the "what's wrong with him" reaction.
Apple's path is not trying to look like Jim, but how Jim wants to be known online; it reminds me of Nintendo's Mi characters on the Wii, the interface and outcome is quite similar.

To all those saying "Why is Apple wasting time on this when I want {insert demanded feature here}?", you do understand that Apple is a VERY large company with many talented people working on many different things. Right? The people who did this, or the new multi-use FaceTime probably would not have worked on your demand if they weren't doing what they did.

Siri is “garbage” because the better ones, Google Assistant and Alexa, got better by encroaching privacy to the max. It’s natural then that Apple is behind due to their stance in privacy.

Apple maps is great in supported countries, which unfortunately not as widespread as Google’s. It’s expected since Google is already in that field a lot longer than Apple.

MobileMe? Are you on a timeslip?
MobileMe was a past example, to illustrate a pattern, of Apple not releasing the 'best' as implied by the poster. I'm curious, how does Siri understand what I say, but choose to do something totally different, have to do with privacy - or is that what you were told to believe by Tim Cook therefore that is what you believe? I have screenshots of Siri repeating back my action like 'Play this song by this artist" and then 'now playing' something totally different.

I live in the Portland area - I could give example after example of where Maps is either flat out wrong, or instructs you to take one of the longest routes available, will tell you to take a u-turn where it's not possible/legal (nor has it ever been), etc. But your point is exactly my point to the op. He said Apple is better even though it's not first. Apple Maps is an example of that being wrong. It wasn't first, nor is it better (the 'round wheel' to reference the OP). So, thank you for helping me make the point.

The few people working on this have absolutely nothing to do with the hardware team.

Aren't you the one missing the point of WWDC? It stands for Worldwide Developer Conference... it's primarily an event for "software" developers worldwide. It's also became the usual time of the year when they release new "software" version of iOS, MacOS, watchOS, tvOS... you're probably new to anticipate hardware that much during WWDC
I’ve been using macs since you were in diapers. You have a short term memory, as last year they released a load of hardware

This is just sad. No substance. Pleasing the children, and by that forcing the parents into new technology that has no meaning or purpose, just pure attraction for making money. This is the kind of stuff that belongs in a technology museum or amusement parks, the usefulness just ends there, and if I'm wrong, it means were seeing the end of mankind pretty soon.. :)

No but Management uses this fluff to divert attention from the real issues that they don't seem to give a damn for
They sent 5 minutes talking about it at a keynote. Only a paranoid Fox News watcher would draw the conclusion this is some sort of management scheme to divert attention.

Their support of memoji means that Apple is dogfooding the ARKit and SceneKit sdks, giving them developer attention inside Apple and meaning they will work better and more reliably for third party applications.

When Apple adds sdks and does NOT add first party apps that use them is when you should be complaining.
