I'm Maya user too and no, you don't need 120Hz. 60Hz is fine
Of course 120Hz is better but its not a must. Don't confuse these two

As a Maya user, i need 120hz...not 240hz(those are truly gaming purpose) but for manipulation and motion , 120hz is a must these days...so, 60hz will not be ok for the 27" in 2022
But the rest is on point

It hasn’t been put forth as anything since these are all rumors. And I know plenty of pro Sumer folks who want this, and with the rumored specs, think $2500 is worth it.
Read the first sentence of the post that we're talking about. And my earlier comment already made the 'prosumer' point - I agree that a $2500 display is targeted at the prosumer market. But it's *not* a consumer level model, i.e. it's not a display that most people without specific display requirements will buy.

This is one of those areas where it just feels like Apple is completely out of touch with the desires of most of their customers. Just take the current 5k iMac screen, put it in a clean tasteful housing and sell it for $1,000.

We don't care if it's the best monitor ever sold, or has crazy specs, or is ridiculously thin, or is some sort of engineering marvel. We just don't care. Just give us a high-end monitor that plays great with Macs. Not every product needs to be some sort of statement.

Precisely. IF this matches the panel quality of the new MBP and rumored forthcoming iMac Pro, it will be well worth that price. We’re potentially looking at a 5K Mini LED ProMotion XDR display. Lesser specs are currently being sold for $5K by the same company we’re talking about. Find something comparable that is both available and affordable in this category of specs.

Rabbit hole material but if these displays include FaceID functionality, that could also factor into pricing.

Add in the fact that scarcity in this category from Apple has created a community that is starving for a non-Pro Display Apple monitor and, yeah, these will sell.

“Beggars can’t be choosers” and boy has Apple made us beg for years.

My wallet is ready, Tim Apple

I do believe that Apple is going to do this (sorta), I just don’t think this rumor is talking about that product.

If display panel rumors are to be believed, we may see an entry level 24” 4.5K LCD external display, alongside a prosumer 27” 5K MiniLED ProMotion (this rumor) and an upgraded Pro Display 32” 6K.

Is it possible that all categories actually get addressed? Yes.

Will it make everyone happy? Of course not, all humans are never happy simultaneously.

Is it likely? This era of Apple has given me trust issues, so I’m not getting my hopes up. But I want to believe.

Apple's rumored new consumer-oriented standalone monitor could appear this year and come in at around the $2,500 price mark, based on comments made by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Pro-Display-XDR-Blue.jpg

Writing in his first "Power On" newsletter of 2022, Gurman says the new monitor is "destined to be about half the price of the Pro Display XDR," which he's "hoping" launches sometime this year.
Apple is believed to be developing a lower-priced external monitor that would be sold alongside its high-end Pro Display XDR, which costs $4,999 before factoring in the optional $999 stand.

Taking that into consideration, Gurman's wording suggests he's confident the new display will be somewhere around the $2,500 price mark, although he appears to be less bullish about it being released this year.

Gurman first reported on Apple's development of a standalone display in January 2021, and suggested it will be a consumer-oriented successor to Apple's previous Thunderbolt Display, which was introduced in 2011 for $999 and discontinued in 2016.

In the December edition of his newsletter, Gurman used his Q&A section to double down on his belief that Apple is readying the new display, predicting it would be a "hot seller for those looking to add a larger screen to their new MacBook Pro without spending the equivalent of a luxury car down payment on the Pro Display XDR."

In related rumors, Twitter-based leaker @dylandkt last month claimed LG is developing three new standalone displays that may end up being for Apple, including one based on the current 24-inch iMac, one based on the upcoming 27-inch iMac, and a 32-inch model that may be a new Pro Display XDR with an Apple silicon chip.

In Gurman's latest newsletter, the well-connected journalist also covered his other expectations for new upcoming Apple products in the year ahead, which we've summarized separately.

A $2500 27" monitor is NOT a consumer monitor. I wish there was some clarity from Apple because this is outside the price range for many.

At this point I want other companies to give at least a 27 inch 5k monitor. That would sell like hotcakes. Management of these companies are dumb or what. Everyone want a high ppi screen but just not from Apple. Wake up guys!!

That's the problem, though: almost none of those are high-resolution enough for Retina 2x, so you'll probably run them at 1x. But since macOS no longer supports subpixel rendering either, text will look bad.
Exactly bro! We all want >163 ppi monitors but none of them cares. 2015-2016 was the era of 5k monitors and then suddnely everyone forgot.

Well, most companies operate with a very low margin. I do have a 32-inch 4K monitor and it is fine. I mean, I can still identify the individual pixels if I look close, so it is not quite retina, but it is almost there.

And I must add that, when I bought it in 2017, to run alongside a 7th gen Intel processor, it had some trouble with the integrated video card, which could not keep up well with the high resolution. Things are certainly better now, but it still may not be the time for widespread 5k monitors...

It's a pointless resolution if you aren't using Apple machines. Apple uses it specifically because it's what you get when you double their old pixel dimensions on displays they were already using. It doesn't align well with any particular content. You don't really stream 5K content, and the dimensions don't match up with any power of 2 (dimensions normally do, even a fractional one).

Yeah....it doesn't play well with Windows, for example, so if this type of monitor were to come out, it would be very example and there would be low demand for it - the only demand would be coming from Apple users.

And approximately how many users want monitors for mac. Specially Technology companies which require monitors for employees, what are they buying mostly?

For all the people complaining here that the price is too high and all they want is a simple monitor : why don't you get a monitor from another brand ? Does it have to be branded "Apple" ? There are plenty of very good quality and well designed monitors out there from many brands, and for very reasonable prices ( even for Pro work).
And they will work with any of your Macs.
We will get another brand.

Ended up being a lot a quarter the price. Good. Still price-y, but closer to reasonable.
