As part of its environmental efforts, Apple says its new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR boxes feature a collapsible design.

Apple says the boxes can be broken down into smaller pieces that fit in most recycling bins:
Studio Display has been engineered to reduce its environmental impact. The stand is made with 100 percent recycled aluminum. The standard glass display contains 80 percent recycled glass — an Apple first. And the 100 percent fiber-based box has been extensively redesigned for collapsibility, allowing it to be broken down into smaller pieces that will fit in most household recycling bins.
Apple also says both of the new Studio Display models contain 80% recycled glass, which is described as an "Apple first." This feat applies to models with standard glass, not the upgraded anti-reflective, nano-texture glass.

To learn more about the new Studio Displays, read our coverage of each model:The new Studio Displays are available to pre-order starting Wednesday at 6:15 a.m. Pacific Time.

I actually appreciate this, though I’m unlikely to buy one of the new displays. I broke down my original Studio Display box for recycling. It is a very very sturdy box. I tried jumping on it to break some of the seams and the box held up (I weigh about 160 lbs).

I resorted to power tools in the end.

All the Apple Fanboys will keep the boxes anyways
I've had a corner in my garage reserved for boxes for years because I routinely upgrade and being able to list Like New in Box has a noticeable effect on resale prices. It's a small thing but buyers will pay 15-20% more for a "New to Me" item that comes with the original box, unopened accessories and documents versus the same device unpackaged. That's worth the space they take up in said garage, regardless of what my wife thinks about 😛

“As part of its environmental efforts”? Tim Cook is hostile to the environment in order to maximize profits, which is why literally all Macs don’t have user-upgradable memory nor user-upgradable storage anymore. Cook did that so customers’ Macs would become obsolete sooner, and thus they will have to purchase another new Mac sooner. That creates e-waste. E-waste is not “environmental efforts,” and is in fact anti-environmental efforts.

As much as I love a good conspiracy theory you cannot upgrade the RAM/Storage because the M series chip is a SOC (system on chip) design which includes the RAM and storage driver. This significantly boosts speeds and bandwidth by a factor of 10 at the same time it massively decreases power usage and possible memory errors.

Its a physics issue, when you put the ram with the CPU you get much much better speed and way less power usage/overhead, but you lose upgradability.

As for system storage, youll notice most apple desktops do feature slotted storage but it has to be blank NANDs since the drive controller is on the SoC die for faster and better encryption.
