And I don't think Apple is afraid to use the iMac Pro name again. For most people the iMac Pro was a unreachable extreme expensive computer for professionals so they didn't take much notice. And the professionals don't care what a computer is called.

Indeed. I’m willing to bet that none of the people who are saying a ‘Pro’ computer has to cost at least $5000 are part of the target market that buys $5000 computers. Unless they’re buying it as a gaming system.

512GB HD? Are you smoking crack? You gonna put "pro" on a machine and put half a terabyte HD in it? COME ON
Its just the starting config, what do you expect from a $2,000 "pro" apple machine XD its cloud era now, no need that much disk space anyway?

Plus people serious 'pro' will likely have a SAN, or fat drive array too. It makes sense, not putting much local storage on 'pro' systems. Local caching is awesome, but data security and accurate backups is a must, irregardless...

I pray it won’t use PWM but it probably will.
I don’t want my retinae liquified….pass for me

Apple is working on a redesigned version of the larger-screened iMac that could bring back the "iMac Pro" name to differentiate it from the 24-inch iMac that Apple released in 2021. The larger iMac is expected to have an updated design, M1 Pro/Max chips, and a mini-LED display, and it could launch in the first half of 2022.

Design

The upcoming iMac will be similar in design to the 24-inch iMac and the Pro Display XDR, according to leaker Dylandkt. It will feature black bezels, and if it does indeed look similar to the Pro Display XDR, bezel size could be much slimmer and it could perhaps have less of a bottom chin.

Display

Like the 2021 MacBook Pro models, the next-generation iMac will adopt a mini-LED display for brighter colors, deeper blacks, and improved HDR, and it will feature ProMotion display technology, allowing for up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

A refresh rate at 120Hz will allow for smoother gameplay and scrolling through various apps like Safari, plus it will improve general animations throughout macOS.

Some rumors have indicated that the iMac will have a display that's larger than 27 inches to mirror the smaller iMac's increase from 21.5 inches to 24 inches, but display analyst Ross Young says that it's going to measure in at 27 inches like the current model.

Apple has tested Face ID for the iMac Pro, according to leaker Dylandkt, but it is not a confirmed feature and it's not clear whether Face ID will make it into the release version of the machine.

Ports

The iMac is expected to offer a similar port configuration to the MacBook Pro, with Apple including USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, an SD card slot, and an HDMI port.

Apple could also include an Ethernet port built into the power adapter as it has for the 24-inch iMac.

M1 Pro/Max Chips

The iMac Pro will feature the same M1 Pro and M1 Max chips that were introduced in the MacBook Pro, and Apple could perhaps also introduce one additional higher-end configuration for the machine.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max have the same 10-core CPU (though there is an 8-core version of the M1 Pro). The M1 Pro features up to 16 graphics cores, while the M1 Max features up to 32 graphics cores.

Naming

Apple is reportedly calling the iMac the "iMac Pro" internally, and that could turn out to be its launch name as well, which would be in line with the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro.

An "iMac Pro" name differentiates the 27-inch iMac from the 24-inch model, and makes it clear that it uses the same "Pro" chips as the MacBook Pro.

Pricing

The base iMac Pro is said to feature 16GB memory and a 512GB SSD, and pricing is expected to start at around $2,000.

Release Date

The upcoming iMac Pro will launch sometime in 2022, perhaps in the first half of the year at or before WWDC. It will replace the current Intel-based 27-inch iMac, one of the last Mac models to still use Intel processors.

I can not wait for this iMac Pro! giddy up

For my personal machine, I want more, but when I was working in an enterprise environment, all of our important files were kept on a server, and I don’t think I ever had more than 512GB on my office machine. In fact, IT managers would probably view large hard drives or SSDs as a negative, because they encourage Users to install unapproved software.

If they call it iMac Pro, I will expect a workstation with ECC RAM and definitely more CPU cores than a MacBook Pro, otherwise there is absolutely no need to upgrade from a 2017 iMac Pro with Intel Xeon-W processor (SkyLake W).

Well a 2022 iMac Pro with an M1 PRO will outgun a 2017 iMac Pro per benchmarks and many workload tests.

Give it an M1 MAX and...

Some of us are still using machines from 2015 or earlier. You are not the only Apple customer in the world.

Most people don’t need or use ECC memory.

do we know anything new since dec 7 ??

It still may or may not be coming, at some point in the future, or not. Stay tuned?

I really do not see Apple resurrecting the iMac Pro name after going to such great lengths to kill it off. UNLESS, they are going to come out with a totally different color or maybe configuration.

I'd be partial to a chrome plated iMac Pro. They haven't done chrome before, have they? And WHAT A LOOK!!! WOW!!! A chrome plated iMac Pro! Please, uncle Tim!!!

But then why didn’t they just release a 27” version of the M1 iMac and call it a day? If they’re adding the M1 Pro and M1 Max to the 27” it would make perfect sense to call it iMac Pro. Or not ?. We’ll see.

Well, we will all see..

But honestly, a question that I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND..
When they released the new iMac 24", it was beautiful - except one small thing that i miss sooo much!! The apple logo in the lip! Why did they ever took it away?? It is with proudness that I look at my black apple on my iMac 21,5" and the 27 inches that I had before......

Because the stickers are made to go there? They 'complement' the overall color scheme, so why not?

If that is the intention of stickers and lack of logo on iMac 21", Apple have really sunk to a low place.
I doubt that intention though, but nothing surprise me with Apple today ? ?
Keep a plastic sticker logo or none, in that case none.
See what they do when they release the larger iMac? If that machine deserves a logo?

I got to the point with Cook and today’s Apple, that I’m tired of even reacting on whatever that dude do anymore. My love for Apple are gone. But I still need my products, that’s all. I don’t pay for anything else today.
