Alienating lovers of Touch ID & small phones in one fell swoop, courage and innovation right there.
Outside of a tiny minority of raucous users here on MacRumors, NOBODY wants a tiny a$$ phone anymore. I have access to both an iPhone 14 and an SE3 and the SE3 is just simply too small. TouchID is a different matter, but I get why Apple so sunsetting it. The fact is technology changed and not everything lasts forever.

Agree. Most users want the biggest display without making the overall phone too big. This is a big reason for face ID instead of touch -- they get more display for the same size phone.

The iPhone lineup is about to get very crowded and confusing. This fall you will have the iPhone 15, 16, 17 and SE4. And, more or less they will all look the same to the average (not your Macrumors) buyer.

If the SE4 indeed has Apple Intelligence and 6-8GB RAM, I am confident it will cannibalize sales of the more expensive phones.

It's also hard to see where the iPhone 15 fits in. Since it's only a year old, I think it's too new for Apple to discontinue, considering the 14 is still for sale.

They keep TouchID on every Mac, so why not at least on one iPhone? But it should be a plus size version available too.

Will the SE4 have a Physical SIM Slot ? , if no like the other US marketed Phone models 14 and up , will there be an INTERNATIONAL version of the SE4 ? (just like everywhere other than US 14 and above still maintains a SIM Slot) , is this just a retention thing that US Carriers are forcing Apple to do this , crazy having US Specific models....

If you've been paying attention, nobody wants Windows 11, but unless you go through the work to downgrade it, that's what you're stuck with. Just because the market forces something on you, doesn't mean it's what everyone wants.

If there is no CHOICE, you are stuck with whatever is being mass produced.

What has Windows 11 got to do with phone?

The teaser seems like a lot for an SE. They don't even tease their flagship phones like that.
Both Rivian and Elon Musk retweeted Apple's teaser.

Elon Musk could just be doing it in exchange for the fact Apple has resumed paying to advertise on X, but Rivian choosing to retweet it is odd. The speculation is that Apple might announce that Tesla and Rivian are going to be the first brands to use CarPlay 2.

Did MacRumors end up mentioning that at all?

The point I was making is the logical fallacy. "No one wants small phones" is faulty. You cannot conclude that no one wants small phones if the market majority supports big phones. Same for Windows 11, just because Windows 10 is no longer (easily) available doesn't mean no one wants it. The market share numbers show otherwise. The only reason Windows 11 is gaining share is because it's the default option if you buy a new computer.

The top 10 selling phones in the past 3 years have been Samsung. "I guess no one wants iPhones and Apple should stop making phones." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_mobile_phones

So a A18 in a iPhone 14 body without the new cooling architecture of the 16's 🤔? What comes to mind is overheating and battery draining issues. Hope they updated the cooling as well.
Good point. I would hope the tech from the 16 series will be implemented on the SE4 to help with heat buildup and help reduce throttling

This looks like a fantastic phone, and the truth is, the size, OLED screen, FaceID, etc., are more than enough for most people. I carry a 16 Pro Max, and the only thing that has I would really miss is ProMotion. The rest of it is fine on this alleged device. When this 16 Pro Max dies, my next device will probably be an SE.

If there is no physical SIM, I will just keep using my 3SE. I have a Czech physical SIM that I have had connected to a Czech number for more than 20 years. It is a pre-paid plan with no easy way to move to an eSIM. I need it for banking in the Czech Republic (where I lived for 12 years).

Absolutely no chance Rivian is allowing CarPlay 2 with this announcement. RJ has always been very clear - no CarPlay, ever. Also, there hasn’t even been a peep of such on any Rivian forums.

As others have said it just doesn't seem right that Apple would hype an entry level iPhone a week in advance. There's absolutely nothing new about recycling an old case design and tossing in some newer components. People are only talking so much about a new SE because the existing one is so outdated in every way except the CPU.

But it they were really coming out with a truly new member of the family, i.e. the rumoured new Home device that merges HomePod and iPad, it would probably get some sort of event so 3 different people could get on stage to show off its features.

Guess we'll all find out next week.

To Mac Rumors team:

Many readers here (including myself), as well as some of your journalists, are from outside the US, so I think it would be nice to indicate metric equivalents whenever you mention US measurements (other than screen diagonal). For example in the article here: "the new model will be 5.78 inches (14.7 cm) tall, 2.82 inches (7.2 cm) wide, and a thickness of 7.8mm. Weight will increase just an ounce (28 g)". That way, everyone understands immediately without having to pull out the conversion calculator. Thanks guys.
