The point I was making is the logical fallacy. "No one wants small phones" is faulty. You cannot conclude that no one wants small phones if the market majority supports big phones.
Fortunately you an get actual market share for when the iPhone 12 Mini was sold with the same CPU as the 12 Pro, and then then thr 13 Mini. The smaller models summed together add up to 15% market share, which is nobody for Apple's sales figures. Eventually they may release another Mini when they feel enough buyers have built Up.

Agreed. I think this is a new product line, hence the "new member of the family"
Yeah. I don't think they'd want to build up then later release a "yawn" device.

A new family member sounds like a new product category.

I wonder what that silvery thing is... liquid metal... ? They had that at some point, but never went anywhere...

Would like it to be named 16E, that way hopefully it will get yearly refresh. Will be nice to see the SE getting FaceID support. Also waiting to see how the new Apple modem will perform.
Part of the point of the SE is to have a phone that isn't on a yearly refresh cycle. There are people in this forum who were complaining that "it will have the same processor as the 16!" Yes, and then a new iPhone will be released in the fall, and suddenly the SE won't have the same CPU as the flagship phone, and it'll stay that way (based on the previous refresh cycles for the SE) for an average of three years.

Stretching out the sales lifetime of a model is a way for Apple to not spend as much on engineering, design, retooling, marketing, etc. on the SE on an annual basis, they way they do for their other phones. That's another way it keeps the phone cheaper.

At the end it could be something quite different than an “SE”. A lower specced iPhone to be more aggressive on the market. Sadly, this could result in a price more similar to the actual iPhone 14 (like $579 ?).
I wouldn’t bet on MagSafe support: it would make the iPhone 15 totally outdated.
I think camera setup, MagSafe and Dynamic Island will still be the main differentiations points.

There's never been a phone with these specs at this price point. The price is the key thing here. Though if price is key for many then it's worth comparing this new phone to a used iPhone 14. This phone gains apple intelligence but otherwise the used 14 might be a better feature vs price.

The problem we don’t know yet the price point. Everyone is pointing at $500, but we don’t really know yet. Maybe Apple is just replacing the iPhone 14 (which was at $599).
Will be watching the Apple modem performance very closely. 🧑‍🔬
Pretty much everyone will be.
Waiting for Qualcomm actions for patent infringement (not because Apple is guilty, but because the whole US Patent system is flawed).
They keep TouchID on every Mac, so why not at least on one iPhone? But it should be a plus size version available too.
Mac don’t have a touch screen, so TouchID is the only available option.
I just got my SE 3 this week because of all the SE 4 rumors lately.
Enjoy your vastly outdated iPhone then 🤷🏻‍♂️
The point I was making is the logical fallacy. "No one wants small phones" is faulty. You cannot conclude that no one wants small phones if the market majority supports big phones. Same for Windows 11, just because Windows 10 is no longer (easily) available doesn't mean no one wants it. The market share numbers show otherwise. The only reason Windows 11 is gaining share is because it's the default option if you buy a new computer.

The top 10 selling phones in the past 3 years have been Samsung. "I guess no one wants iPhones and Apple should stop making phones." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_mobile_phones

Apple had iPhone 12 and 13 Mini data for years to analyze, and THEY decided people voted elsewhere. So basically YES, he is right: no one wants small phones.
“No one” has to be taken with a grain of salt: even if it’s only 3/4%, it means millions of people like you. But that’s not enough for Apple.

So what’s the evidence that there is healthy and thriving demand for smaller phones then?

It feels more accurate to just admit that while there may be a small group of users who do genuinely prefer a smaller iPhone, this group may not be big enough to justify Apple maintaining a separate like just for it. Rather than attempt to make this target demographic larger than it really is.

Outside of a tiny minority of raucous users here on MacRumors, NOBODY wants a tiny a$$ phone anymore. I have access to both an iPhone 14 and an SE3 and the SE3 is just simply too small. TouchID is a different matter, but I get why Apple so sunsetting it. The fact is technology changed and not everything lasts forever.

One thing you forgot to say in your post - for you.

They keep TouchID on every Mac, so why not at least on one iPhone? But it should be a plus size version available too.

As well as few iPad models.

I don’t want a small phone #clamshell.
I want a small user interface.
I want to be able to reach the furthest button with one hand without having to pull it closer myself.

There is now a new rumours of starting price $499 but with 64GB only. Although it claim 128GB as $599 I assume this is mistake in understanding storage tiers because Apple charges $100 for 128GB storage.

I assume Apple could do $599 for 256GB though.
