A friend of mine just bought a 13.3" rMBP the other day because she was disgusted with her Windows machine and since it was failing she needed a new computer pronto. She had been very impressed by and interested in my rMBP and since she already has an iPad and an iPhone decided to go with a Mac this time rather than another Windows machine. She needed something right away so couldn't wait to see what might be announced at WWDC or later in the year.

I stupidly underbought last year -13" MBP/Retina with 128GB last year and am anxiously waiting for the new MBP's just to upgrade to 15"/16GB and 512GB w/onboard 2G video - yes it's horribly priced and I'll still do it. I wish there was a real competitor to Apple in the Unix space.... and I'm kind of surprised that we haven't seen one yet. Apple is not the same company it was a few years ago... their 1984 commercial is biting them in the a$$ IMHO because it's what they've become - no user upgrades and locked into their world - i.e Why isn't IOS installable on any Intel hardware? Has anyone else noticed that Apple support is slipping as well? I guess they make more in volume selling $1000 Rose Gold computers than $2000 MBP's.

I am waiting for a new MacBook Pro. My last white MacBook served me seven years. My current MacBook Pro is from 2012, so its almost 4 years old. Last year I upgraded the RAM and installed an SSD so the Mac feels like a brand new machine. So actually I don't need a new Mac but I am still checking the Apple Store from time to time to see if there is a new MacBook Pro. I am stunned that my 4 year old MacBook is still the currently latest MacBook. Its just 100 Euros less than it was 4 years ago! Wtf, no wonder people are not buying it! I don't want a pink NetBook, I want a new MacBook Pro with ports and I want it to be user upgradable. What is Jony doing? Spending all his time on new watch bands? Man...

Edit: Oh and I just played around with the HP and Dell BTO Laptops and man what do I have to say, the Macs are just way overpriced old crap! Holy ... :) Got to check the Hackintosh guides. Sorry to say it but if Apple stops upgrading its computer line I will have to switch in a year or two.

Add me to the camp of people really wanting TouchID to come to the Mac. I really thought the new MacBooks would have that, considering the introduction of password-protected Notes and the rumors of Apple Pay capability coming to websites this year. Hopefully the MBPs will get it first. I'd also absolutely love cellular data connectivity options like the iPad built-in to my Mac. As it is now I always use my iPhone's hotspot, but that kills the battery. I'd much rather use something built-in.

I stick mostly with MBPs as my main notebook. Though I have some PC notebooks as well. Bought an Apple refurb mid 2015 MBP last year. Yes, it's more expensive than I feel it should be. But Apple has been the best for me when it comes to long term quality on notebooks and support if needed. OSX and Windows run well on it. The trackpad is the absolute best. It's also hard to find a decent PC notebook equal or greater specs, with speakers on top, light up keyboard, mag charger, good battery life, and etc, without it being just as expensive or has a major flaw. There's several reasons software wise, why I need to use both OSX and Windows, so not having a MBP is out of the question.

Not true at all....Its the same mentality that if Ferrari made an inexpensive car, they would sell like hotcakes! That's neither Ferrari's nor Apple's business model. Premium price for a premium product.

What is premium about a Macbook Pro in 2016?

CPU - Nope
GPU - Nope
Display - Nope
Keyboard - Nope
Connectivity ( Thunderbolt, USB, BT, WIFI ) - Nope
SSD - Yes, good quality.

Seems like I am not the only one waiting for the successor of the MacAir. I don't know what Apple will come up with, but I do know it's not the MacBook for me: too little performance for too much money.

The SSD is a good quality.. but the rest? ( I've edited my post above to include components )

That alone does not warrant the higher price vs competition.

The rest is also above the average.

Saying that the retina display, keyboard and connectivity aren't premium, well, you don't deserve any more attention, you're ridiculous.

For the CPU, it's the best thing you can get with that TDP, when they were launched, and the newer ones don't have much better performance.

Also, what about build quality, software, battery life? That's right, you don't even try to mention it...

Or, customers aren't upgrading or buying new MacBooks because their retail price point is way off the mark, incredibly too expensive.

The price point is worth it when they are legitimately superior hardware. Unfortunately, the only currently available model that's not ready to be put out to the pasture is the 12" MacBook, which is completely unsuitable in both screen size and capabilities for most professionals.

Sales suggest the price point is not worth it.

It seems you are living in a silo, because if you've seen what the competitors offer, its quite apparent that Apple laptops are nothing special.

This is 2016, competitors have got ahead of Apple laptops - better value for money. Apple have fallen behind - read through the posts, a lot of people feel this way. We will see what Apple release in WWDC. I hope the refreshes are *Good*.

Firstly, Keyboard - Your really trying to say the Apple laptop keyboard is Premium? Really - what is Premium about the Apple laptop keyboard? You answer me that, thanks.

Battery life - is nothing special.. a lot competitors offer the same.
Software - we are talking hardware, not software. ( OSX is good , as is Windows 10 )
Build Quality - Good better than others.

Connectivity is nothing special.. go look at the competitors, they also offer *exactly* the same connectivity as Apple. Bluetooth 4, TB, USB3 - these are no big deal in 2016. Some competitors offer USB3.1 in their latest and greatest .

What does it matter about Build Quality if the components of the machine are nothing special? Your wrapping a pig in nice clothes! Lipstick on a pig.

So Build quality and SSD maybe better than average.. still, doesn't justify higher prices. Macbook Pro is not a premium product vs what else is out there. Sure, you'll think otherwise.

You buy your over priced "Premium Product" Macbook Pro 2015 - I'm certainly not. If Apple can't can't provide Good Value For Money, there are better products out there.

Great to see you prowling the forums Tim, hope you're keeping in good spirits. Fingers crossed for new colour watch bands at WWDC!

Whhhaaaaaatttttt????

I am completely blind to nature of my comment deserving your sarcastic reply? Humour me by stating why it did?
You have literally made a reply for no reason, it's like you randomly picked on one post and thought that'll do....

I don't know, perhaps it's too much to ask for you to make a reply that actually makes any sense?

Apple's reaction to their computer customer's complaints and requests:

I'm perfectly fine with the specs Apple are offering right now. The prices could be a little lower though. Especially the upgrade prices. €500 for half a gig of storage is pretty ridiculous.

I'm not surprised that MacBook sales are dropping. I don't think it's because people are waiting for the latest and greatest. A lot of people are perfectly happy with what they have now as long as it holds up, even in the pro world. And consumers seem mostly interested in tablets these days. The number of people who wants or needs top performing machines are shrinking, so it's only to be expected that the sales are slowing down.

Count me in as also waiting on an updated Macbook Pro (or something). The MacBook Retina has way too many compromises (single port that incompatible with anything I own, weird keyboard, no Magsafe connector) to be usable for me.

All I want is a light laptop with a retina display and a real keyboard with actual key travel so it doesn't feel like I'm typing on a tablet.

Still using a 15" MBP from 2009 because I have been able to upgrade the HD and RAM unlike the current models. Since then the MBP still looks the same, albeit a little thinner with better display. I am only buying a new one if they completely redesign it with a new form factor like what they did in 2008. Many PC competitors have been copying the MBP design ... I think thats a sign it's time for new hardware....
