I've got some AAPL. I sure hope a lot of people order them. I just don't like the way this rollout happened. Two iPhones last month, and now a different iPhone. As a regular consumer (not a geek like those on these forums), I'm not sure I would have a clue what is going on. But alas, Apple thinks they know all. My X is keeping me happy for now.

I also own stock and disagree. I think them rolling out the more expensive one to get people who have no patience was a good move. Milk those $1,500 phones first and then serve those with lower budgets.

This caught me out as I was went to price up some MacBooks before new ones could be announced.
At this point, this is a publicity stunt. There is no need to take the entire Apple Store down, just to add one product.

God forbid Apple use it's own site for marketing purposes. I hope you were eventually able to price a Mac.

Indeed I was expecting more of an upgrade compared to last years XR.

The previous XR was quite bigger.

You also don’t need to be an expert to understand a worldwide launch of the most popular device on the planet might be different than a random product available on Amazon or BestBuy?

Honestly, why do we even expect the average Joe on here to understand what's required to run a company on the scale of Apple's?

I already have the XS Max, but my son which has a 6 Plus is upgrading to XR. He is paying me for it, but I’ll be putting on my card at 2 am CDT. We are both excited! I am going to be checking it out closely as I will still have one more day to return my XS Max should I decide to go that route. I asked him what color, he said I don’t want any of those girly colors. I was like pulease, so he wants black so black it is. I don’t think they are girly colors. I kinda like the blue one. LOL

Screen wise, plus to Xr is a DOWNGRADE.

what I'm doing is checking the countdowns, enjoying MR, & online puzzles while I wait to order my blue 64gb xr.

Here's the classic article about that when Blackberry was dying and Apple was coming up.

http://mobileopportunity.blogspot.com/2010/10/whats-really-wrong-with-blackberry-and.html

The symptoms to watch closely are small declines in two metrics: the rate of growth of sales, and gross profit per unit sold (gross margins).
[...]
But eventually you reach the dregs of the market, and sales will flatten out, or maybe even start to drop. You cut prices again, but this time they don't increase demand because there are no latent customers left.
What's interesting is that Apple has avoided that trap by increasing prices. It'll be interesting to see how long that can last. One thing that he didn't talk about is the upgrade cycle, since Apple is to a large extent selling into its own base. That's not something that used to happen in the cellphone market a lot.

Apple is already actively pursuing other products to develop to keep up revenue. They aren't just sitting around for the day the iPhone is no longer the star of the show. As if a guy like Tim Cook doesn't already understand this.

Golden Showers 256gb for me ;) Hope they made enough of all the colors as Black is the obvious mass produced color at launch. Couple hours and we'll see.

Good luck everyone

Oh god, not another one of those kind of guys. Mr. I'm too macho for colors. Where's he from Alabama or something?

Waiting on the web administration experts to explain why Apple doesn’t need to have their site down.

Uncertain. It does create excitement, but it might have something to do with version-controlled updates. It might be safer to lock users out, pull in the updates, do some quick checks to make sure all is good, and then re-open the doors. Their site is not just a database-driven e-commerce site like may online shopping sites. It's a vastly more complex site that likely mixes static content with dynamic content.

It would be far worse to have users hitting the site midstream and seeing broken pages and errors while the updates were being applied.

Seems obvious. Its $250.00 cheaper, similar form factor, offers Face ID and six new colors, the average consumer will easily take advantage of this new iPhone, especially given the cost savings alone is enticing enough.

That seems a bit extreme when you get to the numbers Apple is at.

If 30M XS's are sold you're saying 300M XR's will be sold. That's unlikely.

I know they are, but it'll be pretty difficult to replace 56% of your revenue. It took Apple years to get to this point, and they don't really have anything that's even pretending to grow as fast as iPhones did.

That said, what does a steady-state Apple look like, where it's just selling through? As a shareholder I'd like to know.
