Uncertain. It does create excitement, but it might have something to do with version-controlled updates. It might be safer to lock users out, pull in the updates, do some quick checks to make sure all is good, and then re-open the doors. Their site is not just a database-driven e-commerce site like may online shopping sites. It's a vastly more complex site that likely mixes static content with dynamic content.

It would be far worse to have users hitting the site midstream and seeing broken pages and errors while the updates were being applied.
Oh no, see you have to be wrong because Amazon and Best Buy do it all the time without taking their sites down.

I've got some AAPL. I sure hope a lot of people order them. I just don't like the way this rollout happened. Two iPhones last month, and now a different iPhone. As a regular consumer (not a geek like those on these forums), I'm not sure I would have a clue what is going on. But alas, Apple thinks they know all. My X is keeping me happy for now.
How many shares?

Does MacRumors have any vested interest in forgetting about the lack of 3D Touch on the XR? I’ve seen the omission of Apple’s omission in many MacRumors article.

One of my fav 3D Touch features... Accessibility AssistiveTouch/3D Touch for screen shot... ...

You also don’t need to be an expert to understand a worldwide launch of the most popular device on the planet might be different than a random product available on Amazon or BestBuy?

Nice try, but you do realize that most carriers offer the iPhone on release day as well right along side Apple. They too (ATT, Verizon, etc) keep their site completely up the entire time. THIS is Apple's greatest asset, their marketing team and how ill-informed people fall for their meek strategies.

It's a sales gimmick

This! And people continue to underestimate Apple's marketing teams.

They sure act like they understand.

And the kool-aid drinkers continue to chug the kool-aid. It's marketing, plain and simple. Google.com gets more traffic to their site on any given day then Apple does on their biggest launch day of the year (and the Xr ain't it). But if you don't understand web traffic, routing and how e-commerce works, then maybe find another topic/subject to pretend you know something about.

something tells me the XR will have the same cellular connectivity issues as with the XS and XS Max, no? They went all in with Intel, right?

That's holding me back from jumping on this device at :01 past midnight...

I have many of Apple products, Macbook, Macmini, ipad, iphone, Airport.... But the current state of iPhone makes me want to move from iphone to Android. Android phones copy all the GOOD things iPhone has like interace, gestures, notch, faceID. But in contrast, iPhone does not copy the Good things from Androids. Good things like, split screen for multitasking, A button to close all apps, USB-C, include true fast charge adapter in the box, has both faceId and fingerprint scan,.... So... in the past iPhone was a clear leader, but right now it seems that it lacks behind in the pack. Just sad.

I’ll be right back.
Updates are coming to my opinion. Check back soon.

Screen wise, plus to Xr is a DOWNGRADE.

It is indeed, but the question is are my eyes really going to care? That seems to be what spec folks get stuck on the numbers rather than real world use. I'll be the judge of that when I have my son's in my hand and look at it. Do I think I will return my Max.. highly unlikely, but I have an open mind and not going to get stuck on numbers in specs.

Apple has taken its online storefront down to prepare for pre-orders for the 6.1-inch iPhone XR, the third iPhone in the 2018 iPhone lineup. Apple will begin accepting orders for the iPhone XR at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time or 3:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday, October 19.

In other countries, pre-order times will vary based on local time zone. Pre-orders will kick off at 6:01 p.m. in Sydney, for example, 3:01 p.m. in China, and 8:01 a.m. in the UK. For full details on when pre-orders go live in your country, make sure to check out our post that lists all pre-order times by country.

Apple will accept pre-orders through the Apple website and the Apple Store app. T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon will all be accepting pre-orders for the iPhone XR in the United States, as will major retailers like Best Buy.

Pre-orders for the iPhone XR will be available from Apple at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time in the following first wave launch countries:

Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Guernsey, Herzegovina, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the UAE, UK, US and US Virgin Islands.

iPhone XR will expand to Israel on November 1 and Armenia, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar, Ukraine, and Vietnam on November 2, according to pre-order details shared by Apple.

Apple did not launch the iPhone XR at the same time as the iPhone XS and XS Max because of issues that delayed production, so it is not clear if Apple will have adequate supply to meet demand. Customers hoping to get one of the new devices on launch day should order as early as possible just in case.

The iPhone XR is priced starting at $749, and it is available in 64, 128, and 256GB capacities in six colors: white, black, blue, coral, yellow, and (PRODUCT)RED.

Compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR has an LCD display instead of an OLED display, a single-lens camera rather than a dual lens camera, Haptic Touch instead of 3D Touch, and LTE Advanced instead of Gigabit LTE. On the plus side, the iPhone XR offers even longer battery life than the iPhone XS Max.

For more detail on the iPhone XR, make sure to check out our iPhone XR roundup to read up on the new device's feature set ahead of when pre-orders begin.

The first pre-orders placed for the new iPhone XR models will arrive on Friday, October 26, the iPhone XR's official launch date.

Why does the whole website have to be taken down to add or change a product?!?

Remember how you used to have to reboot MS Windows before the introduction of the Monitor Resolution Power Toy (optional utility,) which was later incorporated into the main Windows OS, in order to change screen resolution, and Apple Mac users used to scoff about that, because the Mac could change screen resolution on the fly without rebooting?

This is FAR more embarrassing than that.

Imagine if other retailers did that. Amazon.com recently updated the Kindle Paperwhite so that now it’s waterproof and has more memory.

Did they shut down all of Amazon.com while they dicked around with their site’s configuration?

I think it’s purely for hype. There’s no way their site is so poorly designed that it actually NEEDS to come down to be updated.

Oh god, not another one of those kind of guys. Mr. I'm too macho for colors. Where's he from Alabama or something?

He was joking dude... he just prefers black! Believe me he is a very macho dude, but he likes the black because he can match it with other color cases and his point is well taken. If it has a case on it why bother with a color anyway, no one will see it. Not like he is going to take it off every night and just admire it.

It amazes me how this seems to be such a big freaking deal. Apple has always done this and only a select few people really seems to care. I am sure Apple doesn't give a rats rear-end how Amazon or other retailers add products to their web sites, they do their own thing as they always have. This nonsense comes up every time Apple releases new products and it's not going to change.

Or...maybe us “kool aid drinkers” don’t even care how Apple manages their website to complain about it. Doesn’t mean we’re complicit.

Mine can, in terms of pmw causing eye strain and headaches. Have returned my max to get the XR. Pretty guttered as the Max is a beautiful device. But hey, my health is more important than a fancy phone :)

Already ordered and received confirmation for 128GB Coral iPhone Xr from AT&T at 2:57am ET.

Got mine. But where are the cases?!

www.amazon.com
[doublepost=1539932942][/doublepost]Got my order in in a breeze. Easy ordering process and no noticeable lag. Either Apple did their homework with their servers or not many people are ordering ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
