Do you think it might be done to avoid costumers buying HW that will be outdated in several hours ?
And if they "block" certain devices you will know those are being updated.

It's way more exciting to take down a website than just silently update it. That's how consumers know things are coming.

Usually old products are sold out and go out of stock during the week preceding an event. This time there wasn’t anything particularly notable about the channel though…
