Hope we don't feel like this after the keynote address?

Why are people expecting M2 when they haven't finished with the M1 transition yet... and they literally teased the Mac Pro at the Spring event

I'm actually down at the bookies atm putting a bet on how long it will take after the keynote before someone posts the first obligatory "well that was so disappointing" thread. Apple could announce world peace and an end to hunger and someone would find it disappointing because they haven't added a 240Hz ProMotion 8K screen to a Macbook Air.

There will be a new 11" iPad Pro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just bought yesterday mini 6 . Why macrumor said dont buy , hmm hmm . Hehe. thinking air yesterday but if heat hmm okay back to mini. But what they want to upgrade more from last year ?

2022 and they still have to take the store down to add new devices 🙈

2022 and they still have to co-ordinate a multinational/multi time-zone launch online and across a massive bricks&mortar store network, where most of the staff will be learning about the new products just this morning. The hype doesn't hurt, but it probably also helps reduce the number of online orders for superseded items they have to cancel/change, and - especially - ensures that they aren't at home to Mr Cockup when it comes to updating the sites around the world.

Imagine the chaos if the UK site accidentally started listing the new models at 9am UK time, and the US woke up to massive leaks... or if the Canadian site accidentally listed a new MacBook Air at $99.99 and was subsequently bombed with orders. Etc. Yeah, hot updates are entirely possible - and essential if you're, say, Amazon - but when you have a relatively small catalogue and you're only doing these major updates once a quarter there's something to be said for taking the site down, measuring twice and cutting once. Also, I guess they have to fire up a lot of back-up servers to cope with the spike in orders when the site re-opens (it's traditional in the tech industry for servers to be overwhelmed and the site to go down on such occasions - Apple have a pretty good track record of not letting that happen).

There's not many product launches that gather the same level of worldwide attention as Apple, who also tend to have stuff available for, at least, pre-order in multiple countries at launch or shortly thereafter. So yeah, let's armchair quarterback them about taking the site down,

Why will there be A16 iDevices before ALL iDevices are on A15? That's just how things work. Has Apple ever waited on all Intel Macs to be on the latest generation of chips before some Macs adopt the next generation? I don't know for sure but I doubt it. For example, Intel Mac Mini has been notoriously "left behind" across many generations of Intel Mac updates.

If a new chip is ready, ship it! Don't hold it back because some M1 product owners may feel some concern about not having a bigger number painted on a chip they will never see deep inside of a hard-sealed box. If it really bugs someone, flip from referring to it as M-anything and just tell friends you have the "latest/greatest Apple Silicon MAX/ULTRA" in your "new" Mac. Other than mostly people here, one could already claim their new Mac has an M33-1/3rd chip and the average Joe would know no better.

Personally, I just shelled out big for M1 Ultra in Studio. If M2 hits today, great! if M3 hits in the Fall, great! Move this along ASAP. My Ultra will still work as good as it does now even if a chip with M50 is rolled out today.

The fact that the store was ‘taken down’, at least indicates we can expect something today…….Something.

Because the first wave of M1 devices - the Air, 13" MBP and Mini - are now 18 months old and ripe for an update. OTOH, if it follows the M1 pattern, the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra won't follow for some time yet, and the MP will need at least an Ultra.

Also, it would make a lot of sense for the Mac Pro's processor (which could be a quad Max, or an Ultra with added multiprocessor/NUMA support, Ultra with extra PCIe, or something completely different...) not to be branded "M1" given the usual slow update cycle of Mac Pros means it will probably still be current when the MacBooks are sporting "M3"s.

There is no rule saying that everything has to start at 1st gen AS.
There is no rule saying that something can't get 2nd gen AS before everything else is AS.

Even more true if the "M2" turns out to be just a "M1+" as some rumours suggest.

Hoping for a software update announcement promising that the watch crown wheel always reliably scrolls through an email even if the wind just changed direction outside. That’s about the extent of my expectations from Apple in 2022.

Yeah. Considering they could build and test the website before launch and literally click a button to upload it. It’s hype.
it's both hype and secrecy. i'm sure their store doesn't need to be down but it creates a bit of excitement and it also prevents people from trying to refresh the site during a presentation and for example seeing "The new MacBook Air in fun colours!" before they announce it in the show. also, it gives them time to make the changes, make sure everything is correct, and that it will perform properly when it goes live again.
