Yes, and somewhere in the world, "local time" will be slap bang in the middle of the working day when hordes of people are half-way through ordering an iPhone. Somewhere in the world, it will be just after close of business, so there will be a whole day's worth of customers who have ordered an old product and/or paid the old price on the same date as the launch. Then there are all the bricks-and-mortar Apple Stores around the world who would really, really like to get their displays sorted out before the website changes.

Yeah of course, I thought you were implying there's a technical reason for doing this. Otherwise I agree, It's a nice thing towards their customers and they're saving themselves the "oh I didn't know a new model was coming out today" returns and hassle. That said, not all physical Apple Stores update with the new device same day or even same week. At least in Europe, might be different in the States.

When they started doing this, the backstory was that their web store was based on WebObjects, and, yeah, actually did need a complete shutdown/restart to bring up the changes. Don't know if any of that code remains, likely more a tradition now (plus the bit about keeping less clueful people from buying the previous model during the event). I kind of like it. I'd probably like it less if I really had to buy some accessory right now, but then, I'd just drive to the local Apple Store (it's hard to maintain a sense of urgency for "I have to order this cable right now, for delivery in 3 days").

Now, if they shuttered all the physical Apple Stores for six hours before/during these events, then, yes, that would be pretty unreasonable hype generation.

I didn't know the bit with the WebObjects. You'd imagine that the system is updated by now but you never know, huge corporate websites drag old code for years and years. It's all nice and fancy on the outside but usually a complete mess behind the scenes. But even if they did update at some point, they'd probably keep closing it for all the other reasons.

I was under the assumption, perhaps wrongly, that the store goes down when new products are launched. Do they ever launch products that ship on the day of the keynote or am I just wrong about closing the store?
I think they did for the summer event. I think that the iMacs were available that day. I do remember (albeit, I could be wrong, and will most likely be excoriated or corrected) that there were some devices/computers that were available the day of the keynote.

Wireless charging will almost certainly be X exclusive..

I'm fairly sure I remember a rumour/story on here showing images of all three anticipated new iPhones, all with a circular wireless charging thing built into them. Suggesting all the iPhones this year will feature wireless charging.

Could be wrong though.
Plus, we've not heard a huge amount about it.. just the KGI note that the Apple charger is likely delayed.

...maybe, but they still need to be aware of the changes and when they take effect. As soon as the website changes, customers will be walking around the store while browsing the new Apple site on their iPhones.

This is going to be biggest launch. I quit work to watch this keynote

@Sunny1990 You quit work for a Keynote? I don't see the rationalization in This and its your choice by all means. I understand their exciting to watch, but It shocks me when someone says "they quit wok" for entertainment.

so let me get this straight, apple decided to remove the X from mac os X because something wasn't looking right, so after they drop the X from mac os, now they re going to put the X on the iPhone
innovation at it's best
