Talking about a cluttered iPad lineup.
Exactly. This will make it way harder for people to make a decision. Why not keep the old iPad Pro around and when the new one is introduced keep that next to the current one. Base model iPad, iPad mini and iPad Pro make a lot more sense for many reasons.

Talking about a cluttered iPad lineup.

Perhaps?

But what do you suggest? Do we go back to just one iPad? Or just two iPads?

Which ones?

I hear what you're saying... but Apple has a lot of different kinds of customers.

The lineup might be cluttered... but at least it's complete. There's something for everyone.

And since when is "too many" models actually worse than "not enough" models? :p

Honestly... the lineup isn't really much different than it was yesterday. The only major change is the resurrection of the "Air" moniker.

Remember... the iPad Mini was still in the lineup... but it was the 4-year-old model. And there was also the 9.7" entry-level... the 10.5" Pro and the pair of 11" and 12.9" Pros yesterday.

So... not much different.

But at least the Mini finally got some love today!

No I haven't run Infinity photo on an iPad, I have however run it on my Surface Pro connected by USB 3.0 to a large external Hard Drive that I store my projects on...
Have you used Photoshop on an iPad? What about an actual file manager? Used a mouse with one? Played a non mobile game on one? Use full Microsoft Office on one? and in my opinion anything being called a computer should at least be able to run good old fashioned WinAmp. I've tried both an Apple Pencil(my girl has one so it's not just a few seconds at the store) and a Microsoft Pen and the difference is negligible. When it comes to being only a fraction of a difference who cares. At least I have an eraser on top of my pen and a customizable button to do different things. As for modbook they actually are still selling their services so there must be some interest there.

Affinity* , is that Surface type cover giving you issues? Damn, thought you left that behind... maybe not.

Yeah, and it's not a bad experience. There is a file manager (the Files app), there is drag and drop. Seems like maybe you don't want to adopt the new ways, which is fine, but don't pretend it's a problem to everybody.

It's fair enough if you don't like it, and if you're a professional even more reason to not want to spend valuable time re-adapting to a new system. But, in my opinion, you shouldn't write it off completely.

The iPad, in its current state, love it or hate it, is no worse than the Surface Pro 6 in it's current state - not perfect. But I'd argue the iPad fits more people generally than the SP6, which is a a very niche device

I would love a new iMac, mine's turning 6 in September. But I would also like to see a bigger refresh than just updated CPU and GPU. A design refresh is overdue, I mean them bezels are huge.

I would much rather see an iMac with the RAM access hatch on both sizes (21.5" and 27"), and if they can't, kill the 21.5" model.

Would also love to see the same access hatch for the HD/SSD.

Have you ever used Affinity Photo on iPad? .. And the Apple Pencil is being insulted to be compared to the Surface Pen. A tablet with macOS on it? ...see countless other discussions on why it's a bad idea. There was a thing called the ModBook ten years ago... go look at that. The product was in market, and it didn't take off.. what does that tell you?

Overtaking competitors? They never overtook the Surface Pro because the Surface pro was never anywhere near the iPad's sales.... and nor will it ever be if you've looked at the latest figures.

Touche to the typecover comment but I was actually using the on screen keyboard! The surface brand might be a little niche product but the form factor it self is anything but. There are a lot less plain laptops being manufactured now unless you are a gamer because walk into a store and 95% of PC's are two in ones now and believe me two in ones far out sell anything apple ipad or mac related.

Maybe I shouldn't have said a bad experience. I should have said iOS is nowhere near optimized for a great tablet experience.

Later this week.

Thanks, I'll wait in. :D

I'd like more ports on the back, annoying you pretty much have to buy a hub

Nope, definitely later. This update would have been perfect if it's just an incremental update - now we're in for a bit longer wait. Guess it will be worth it after all :)

iOS devices today (including accessories and mention of incoming iOS app updates for iWork).

Mac updates later this week (iMac, and possibly MacBook) is what I’m thinking.

But then they would be out of products to update later which warrants a big event. Just for Mac Pro? Nah, all the Mac line in one go.

Or...There’s a dongle for that. Buy a Mac Pro, a USB port hub, a proper cable, an external monitor, and a robust/usable external keyboard. Voila. iMac.

Would they, though? MacBook Pro seems to be popular enough to get its own releases. And there will likely be some kind of update to those at some point this year, even if only a minor spec bump alongside the intro of the rumoured new 16” model.

Mac Pro is very likely a solo product intro (by solo, I mean not sharing stage time with any other Mac), as it’ll be a new paradigm (‘modular’).

Mac mini and MacBook Air have been significantly refreshed recently.

New iMac design next year, I believe.

Leaving a more straightforward spec upgrade model as imminent (as per Mark Gurman).

I've been holding out for over a year to buy an iMac. How much should I believe this rumor??

And, perhaps coincidentally, I had a compatibility issue with my new hub that was so bad that it forces me to reinstall macOS Mojave fresh, and then do a Time Machine backup re-install after spending days on the phone with Apple support.
