Apple has a real-time supply chain interface with manufacturers in China. Unlike Dell or HP, Apple's order delivery estimates are very precise. This is accuracy only possible if all component vendor systems are talking with each other. Given Apple's high security standards, changing this interface is probably only possible during very narrow and defined time periods and needs to match China's working time zone.
good lord, the ignorance in this post is off the scales.

hmmm Apple must have some calculations of the extra sales caused by the hype generated by store going down vs. Normal sales number to justify closing the store for 6-7 hours for a $29 AirTag.

Does anyone know? With Airtags, once you set them as your keys for instance. Can you change the description to something else if you want to use it elsewhere?

...for about 5 hours starting at 3am eastern, during a time frame you were aware of starting on tuesday, 3 days ago.

so at 8am you again have the ability to know this information. no one is delivering before that time, so you'll be iight
Given they are from Europe it's way past 8am here, it's 11am CEST right now so when the store is back up it'll be 2pm CEST.

The whole world isn't on USA time.

Am I supposed to know who Who's is?
Everyone on MacRumors! :)

I can't wait to lose things so I can find them again. So excited! I'll buy 20 at least.

Wondering if engraving is going to lead to longer delivery times? I've never had Apple devices engraved due to resale value, but I'm not going to be selling-on my AirTags at any time.
For sure, I'd say at least 2-3 days. Gotta ask yourself do you really need personalisation when they are going to be living with or attached to an item that is easily identifiable as yours? Also, quick scan on the phone will tell you which Airtag it is...

While I kinda want one for my keys, I can wait, there’s no rush.
What is annoying is taking down the store. I wanted to check out the iMac pricing.
Hang tight — I can help with that — the new iMac starts at $1299 🙂

Be thankful that Apple's e-commerce site still works at all! I remember during the RTX 30-series launch and during the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S launch, how horrendous it was and it still is! You can't guarantee yourself a new GPU or a new console even now!

At least, from Apple, you are guaranteed the hardware when you order it and you won't suffer the bad user experiences that you will get from these other hardware purchases.

So whatever Apple is doing with their e-commerce backend, it works! If they have to take the entire site off-line to prepare for the load, so be it. Even during the height of the pandemic, their site still worked seamlessly and even during the mad rush of the Holiday last year! Unlike the GPU and console purchases last holiday season....man...that was some experience!
Agree. I wish other retailers did this like Apple.

Just ordered a few boxes with AirTags!

Yeah, by no means essential but was planning on getting a 4 pack and giving one to each family member that they might move between things, and no doubt leave lying around on their own - so to avoid the "Who's AirTag is this left on the kitchen table?" questions

The only item I plan to buy from APPLE this year is a refurbished M1 Mac mini in the $579 plus tax.
BEST DEAL. $1500 for an M1 "24 4.5k iMac. What a rip off.
Same for the M1 MacBooks.

Yeah I suppose if you all have basically identical keysets. Perhaps coloured keyring holder will do the trick?
