Wow. I bought one yesterday plus other stuff and because I used the EPP store I’m not eligible. So I asked twice for an exception and they still said no! Even if that’s only 1% of my total order! 😮

Anyone knows someone at Apple to escalate?

This. The USD against most currencies is way up. I am in Thailand and am able to buy stuff here cheaper than in the USA. And the prices here include a VAT. But Thailand got rid of its tariffs on electronics so it was all ready way closer than it used to be. Was always like 30% more here. Now like 10% less.
Don't forget about the VAT refund too! 7 1/2% refund if you leave the country within 90 days of purchase by air, paid in cash

Very cool, but idk why it’s worth shutting the whole store down.
people think that Apple shuts down the store to build hype. it does when there is a new product like iphone/mac etc but this goes to show it's not the real reason. they have to shut down the entire store just to update a gift card policy? lol that suggests to me the "backend" of the store is an outdated mess.

I was having an episode of cancelled remorse last night after cancelling an order that I placed last week for a MacBook Air M2. I went to the online Apple store to re-order the MacBook Air that I had planned to order but the site was in the "We'll Be Back Soon" mode. Whew....my cancelled remorse went away and I haven't had the urge to go back to order the MacBook Air as I can definitely live with my current MacBook. Thanks Apple, you saved me some money for a change!

Yes, if you take Google.com down, it'll be great PR too. Every website would be talking about Google Search being down.

It's 2023. Come on.
Except you couldn't Google which websites were talking about it. You could Bing it and get bugger all I guess.

Whatever this is... the fact Apple still has to "pull down" their store to push maintenance fixes or catalog updates like promos and new products means either A) their tech stack is so badly mangled nobody knows how to fix it or B) they do it on purpose for publicity.

Pretty sure it is B. There is no way they "need" to do this anymore, especially at Apple scale.

Even during keynotes there is zero technical reason to pull down the store. They could flip a switch as products are announced and have them up in seconds. The tech to do that is pretty trivial these days...
You enter Apple store, look for your 99 dollars Item A and find out that while you're checking out now item A is 109 dollars. This is what Apple doesn't want to happen.

How does that explain shutting the store down to add a gift card like today?

Good, it stops me from buying more apple products I don’t need

Do you honestly think Apple doesn't have the ability to post new prices/products/pages/promotions to their site and leave them in a review or staging state until they flip the switch to go live? Every other online store can do that... I guess Apple's tech is so advanced they can't do that.

Or they just bring it down so people talk about it.

Gotta pass it through the approval process and make sure the gift card is for $10 and not $100, because they can't do it beforehand 🤣

I bought this excuse when it was for the new phone, or iPad, etc. I do not buy that when it is for a $50 gift card with AppleTV purchase. It just leads to people calling them stupid and accusing them of using outdated tech (see this thread), there's no upside to it. Just makes zero sense.

Probably B cause Apple's loves doing this for attention.

But only "experts" claiming Apple is incapable of maintaining a commercial website (really?), or claiming it's just for hype, are giving it any attention.

In the end... it's mice nuts. Life goes on. No need to get huffed up over nothing.

Almost every Apple-oriented tech blog has some sort of article about the gift cards this morning. It is hardly a few people paying attention to it.

Apple's PR machine is strong.

If that's what gets your morning going, that's cool.

Can you tell us how the iPhone 14 sales did for the rest of this year and into next year? The economy? Inflation? etc. (Do you also mind sharing how you are communicating from then to your past?) jk, of course, just having some fun.

I think perhaps it was more than the Apple TV discount, since it looks different to me although I have to admit I haven't been on it recently.
