Whatever this is... the fact Apple still has to "pull down" their store to push maintenance fixes or catalog updates like promos and new products means either A) their tech stack is so badly mangled nobody knows how to fix it or B) they do it on purpose for publicity.

Pretty sure it is B. There is no way they "need" to do this anymore, especially at Apple scale.

Even during keynotes there is zero technical reason to pull down the store. They could flip a switch as products are announced and have them up in seconds. The tech to do that is pretty trivial these days...
I'm sure it's B. It's so annoying you can't even buy exising products.

Stupid question here: am i the only one that in this day and age finds i a little odd that apple has to take their entire store offline every time they update their inventory or products? I mean in this case it was just to put the appleTv on sale.. just odd, seams like they’d have a more efficient way to handle their own online store.. just a thought, not knocking apple… i am a fan but seriously there has to be a better way.

Frankly, it doesn't bother me one way or another. What Apple does or does not do, and how they go about it, is their business.

Oddly, about the same time, the B&H webpage for MBP was acting wonky. As soon as the 14" model was displayed, the page switched to another page with contact us and other links (did this repeatedly). I've seen a serious decrease in online content quality. Of late, most notably, the major and relatively long outage of Microsoft Teams. Lots of places must be backfilling positions with whoever they can get, following covid resurgence, retirements and job hopping. Last update to this article says outage was due to addition of a gift card promotion to more countries than previously.

While (relatively) short outages for changes are suboptimal, before retiring, I worked for a major multinational manufacturer that seemed to replace and totally alter everything when they made periodic website changes. Confused the heck out of everyone for a few days. Suspect they farmed out the work to a different vendor each time, with totally different tools.

Yeah I don't know, I'm not entirely convinced it's not A). Apple has one of the most incompetent software divisions of any large company I can think of.
