Since I was in a mall this a.m., I stopped by the Apple Retail Store and copied down the serial numbers of three of their retina display MBPs on display. We'll see if those serials have been blocked or if they yield a Mountain Lion upgrade when the time comes.

Are you trying to get a free upgrade to ML? It's $20 dude, dont be lame!

As did I, and they still asked for proof! If it doesn't work by the time ML is released, I'm going to give apple a call.

Did you purchase directly from Apple? If you didn't then it won't work with a copy of some kind of receipt. Because their system is likely showing the date of channel sale which was before June 11th and thus doesn't qualify for the offer. But they know it was a channel sale so they need to see the receipt to verify the sale to use was after the 11th and then they will adjust appropriately

I purchased it from Apple.com on the 18th of June.

Let's see: I bought it from them and registered it. You don't think that their database is up to that?

Because the software comes from the Mac App Store and the email on your receipt or even product registration might not be the one you use in the store.

So rather than make a potentially bad assumption, they send you a code and you redeem it with the ID you wish to use.

Doesn't matter. You have to have proof of purchase. You won't have a valid receipt number and date of sale so no go on that lame attempt to steal

Ah... gotcha. Maybe they will drop Lion to $19.99 after ML comes out.

They are more likely to just drop Lion. All new machines will come with ML and you had a good year to update. Plus a good 4-6 weeks to verify if you could get ML and buy Lion even if you aren't ready to install just yet.

If you didn't keep up they might have that flash drive still around for the $69 it costs. But then again, they might not

Then it's probably the receipt numbering system. Online and the physical ones don't use the same one and the verification system might have only had the physical store system on.or it could be a conflict with the existence of two dates - ordered and shipped. So they need to see the actual order number etc.

Getting a new MacBook Air this week, so the release couldn't have been timed more perfectly.

That's pretty pathetic. While it won't work without a receipt number attached to each of those serial numbers.. It is still kind of sad that you spent that time and gas just to snag a few $20 bills.

Slow day with the purse snatching or were you just bored?

You are pathetic. People like you that ruins for everybody else.

Can't get it why everybody are so excited to get ML in their systems. There are many programs that won't work or would have many bugs in it, so it would take 2-3 weeks for developers to update their systems. I would wait.

Anyone else still running Snow Leopard ?`

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I am. I purchased my 2011 iMac right before Lion and never updated.

I think the word you were looking for was Anxious rather than Excited.

I'm looking forward to the stronger iOS integration. Especially with Notes and Notifications.

As for other programs not working with ML.. there's a pretty thorough list somewhere here on MR that lists the apps that people with Dev accounts have tested and reported as working or not working. If an app you use is listed as not working.. don't upgrade.

Those that upgrade blindly with apps that they depend on daily are upgrading at that their own risk if they choose not to do the due diligence first.

I truely feel bad for you if you need to go and steal a $20 piece of Software.

its live on the app store OMG OMG

It was just after noon on Tuesday in Australia when he posted this.

So, I assume that we can all expect it to arrive at noon tomorrow. That's pretty exciting!

Looking forward to it.
