I've never tried to listen to music while my iPhone is charging, never thought that was so common up until now of course.

Honestly, I personally prefer to keep my iPhone out of hands and out of use while it's charging.
Thought that was the best way to keep the wires from breaking and prevent overheating.

Edit - I cannot think of the restrictiveness knowing that the iPhone is connected to the charger on a wall/port somewhere and having earphones on, it'd require one to just sit around relentlessly and not even move the head too much.

But everyone certainly does have their own preferences so perhaps the future iPhones aren't for those? I mean if it ain't working for you, its best to switch to another no? If not then the alternatives are adapters or embracing the wireless sets and not just the AirPods but others too.

Oh hello there , the following message is sent from plain old reality. A lot of people who have jobs sitting most of the day in front of a laptop computer will have their phone charging off a USB port while listening to music off that same phone.

It's not even a work around. Care to share how you connect lightning EarPods into this dock if that's all you have? Or is he assuming that everyone has 3.5mm headphones lying around now?
THIS! It's ridiculous! And what if you're on the streets, charging with a powerbank and want to listen to music or call at the same time??

Well, suggesting people pay $50 to get back what they had before is pretty much asking for that.
I think the point is they shouldn't go back to what they did before. Apple is trying to change the way people do things. Not have them be the same as they always have been.

Not saying it's right. But it's obvious apple wants everything to be wireless.

Eh, at the end of the day, you can only tell Apple what you think as a customer through your wallet. That they listen to.

This is the correct answer to the problem. The thing gets like 10 hours of battery life. Why would you really need to charge and listen? I realize this is just my own personal experience but I have never needed to charge and listen in the history of using iPhones and I've had almost all of them beginning with the 3G. If you really need to charge and listen (or talk on the phone) then use this dock or the myriad of other adapters that will hit the market in the next couple weeks from other manufactures. Or... don't buy an iPhone 7 if this is the big issue. No one is forcing you.

Also... as to the price of the dock... get over it. This is Apple. We pay about $1000 for the iPhone with tax and Apple Care (USA) and you're gonna really whine about an extra $50.00... really? I suppose that sounds entitled or something, but damn, get over it; Apple stuff is expensive and mostly cutting edge and occasionally requires compromise to use their newest stuff. This is not new.

Pretty sure you need a hdmi cable to connect Apple TV to flat screen as well. Along with power cords for the Apple TV and the flatscreen.

People who are using a mobile device to listen to music because the 3.5mm jack offers better quality than bluetooth are clearly stuck in the dark ages. If you get a good set of bluetooth headphones the sound is awesome plus no wires to fuss with. The best example are the quiet comfort 35. They aren't cheap but are so well made that they'll last years. The sound quality is impeccable and I can not tell a difference when they are plugged in vs wireless. The noise cancelling on these is also second to none. You feel as if you are immersed in whatever you are listening to while blocking out all background noise around you. Lets be honest if you are relying on cell phone for superb audio listening you are doing it wrong. The average ear i can guarantee can not tell the difference from wired vs wireless on the iPhone with a nice set of bluetooth headphones.

Not really. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy an iPhone. Engineering is about striking a balance. Apple thinks there are benefits to ditching the jack some of which include better battery, better camera, and the improved home button. If the trade-offs aren't worth it to you don't buy the phone.

So not only do you get the lightning earpods, but Not the airpods, with this courage device, it comes with an old headset adapter. Amd then you have to pay for either the airpods for 160 euro, or the lightning dock, which.. will work great in the car, on my bike, while jogging and using an external power source... not. Then i have to buy the old headset or earbuds for the old jack.

And if i buy the airpods i only get five hours, and i have to also carry around and male sure it is charged, the airpods charger.

Super convinient and it just magically works.

Steve jobs, please get undead, fix this bs. This is so microsoft, where is the apple we know and love?

What a gimmick....

I use the earbuds and charge at the same time, constantly. So i can commute long distance without bothering people in the street, on the bus, plane, train, or just to be hands free at home. I use a power bank to get extra juice, how is a lightning dock going to bloody help while you are on the road?

The wires and the 573727 year old jack is less of an inconvinience than hogging along a handful of extra items, chargers, cables, adapters, converters etc.

Utter shamelessness... Just admit its a compromise customers will have to make if they want to buy iPhone 7. Don't suggest such ******** solutions. He has some nerve to ask customers to pay $50 after paying $650 plus taxes to get a feature that pretty much all other phones have had since ever.

If you already have an iPhone, is there much reason to upgrade to a new model with only marginal improvements if it means you have to repurchase / use adapters with all of your existing accessories just so you can continue to use them? The hassle and cost strongly outweigh the benefits IMO. Apple should have waited until the supposedly-awesome iPhone 8 because then more people would be prepared to swallow the bitter pill just to get the new features.

Exactly... Its a trade-off. A compromise. Not a solution. And Apple needs to admit that. And yeah, if I don't like it I won't buy it. But that does not change the fact that its still an essential feature missing.

Not directed at anyone in particular...

You (everyone) still has the 3.5mm port... you don't have a problem and can keep using what you got. No one is telling you that you have to buy the iPhone 7. My gawd, there are 1000's of posts whining about the 3.5mm port gone while the world is switching to Bluetooth/Wireless everywhere. Bluetooth sales growth just for 2016 is up over 40% since last year while wired is fading (7%) and sales of bluetooth has exceeded wired in 2016. If your ears are so fined tune that only wired will work for you and you can't handle this change... Instead of whining, let your money do the talking. Don't buy the iPhone 7 and keep your current phone or switch to a new company. The 3.5mm is not essential, it is change that people can't accept. There are 100's of examples throughout history that had the same complaints and now those products are long gone and that essential feature isn't even remembered by the young.

I have never seen so many posts whining about a port change... change is inevitable and if you don't like, switch to a new product and let your money do the talking. It's childish to constantly complain hoping it will do any good. Only money (or lack of sales) will do any good. Then maybe the iPhone 8 will bring it back because rumors say it is going to shock the world with a new design and we know rumors are always true.

Wireless is the only way to go... soon everyone will be saying "You're still using wired headphones? The 90's called and they want their headphones back" - trust me, if you ears were so sensitive that you needed wired because it is so much better, you would only be using wired headphones and a turntable in 2016. If you just purchased $300 wired headphones and don't want to spend money on wireless, maybe you can't afford a new phone and should wait another year.

As for me and my money, change is essential and I embrace the guts to lead the way. Everyone else can just buy samsung and/or keep using their old phone. Wireless and Bluetooth and the improvements to come are all that is in the future. I can imagine all of these houses with wires running all over because wired is the way to go.

A $30-40, large-sized adapter/dongle/dock is not the solution. If Apple gives a dock away for free with every iPhone 7 purchase, then...

How far is your commute that your phone wont get you to work on a single charge?

I understand maybe it's a year premature, but everyone who's skipping this year have to realize it's not coming back. So I don't think it's a terrible decision to purchase this phone if you like it or in need of an upgrade, as undoubtedly this is the future of iPhone. I know most are holding out for next years iPhone which will most likely be missing the port as well so I don't see the real relevance in worrying about. No more iPhones will come with it.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, Apple are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Personally I have been using Bose wireless headphones for a while now.

Boy that'll work really well on an airplane.

How tone deaf can they be?

The fact that Apple itself didn't make a Y connector shows how completely clueless they are.

Whilst I see the need, you can add one more person to the not interested group as in the 8 years I have owned an iPhone I have not once listened to music whilst charging the phone.

I only talk on the phone using headphones, one in each ear. It's not only about listening to music while charging.
