This book is amazing and reasonably priced for what it is. If you think it's expensive then it's not for you. No need to trash a great product. Apple really put quality into this, from the content down to the paper down to the printing.

I'd love to buy this but the price is too steep. I'm sure Apple can offer their justification for it, however at those prices no thanks.

Two points for your dry wit.

I don't think Apple expects or cares if it sells many. It's no different than the 17K gold Apple Watch. It's all for the free PR and ego soothing. They'll be giving these out to employees to boost morale and they'll the left overs.

Isn't this contradictory to Apple's green initiative?

Yes. Most people/businesses that support "green" initiative are hypocritical one way or another. "Green" initiatives (which i am not knocking) are usually performed when it is convenient and limits the interruption of comfort, profit, status, etc...

I find it quite interesting that they release it now, too late for any anniversary but just in time for Christmas.

To the people who are justifying the high price: I bought last friday my first "collectors" book in the upper price segment (>$100). I wouldn't be able to judge the price of the Apple book without that purchase. It is this book: "The Walt Disney Archives. The Animated Movies 1921-1968" and it is worth every penny. Since the price is nearly identical, a comparison is possible: you pay $200 for a 620 page book which contains >1500 images and essays about the first Walt Disney movies and a stunningly well-written text which takes your hand and guides you through that journey. The book measures 16.2x11.8 inches.
The Apple book, however, only contains pictures and no text which is a shame in my opinion (for $300). Like every other product, the materials and the craftsmanship is outstanding, but it only contains photos. By the way, cultofmac wrote that they had to buy the devices shown in this book since they had no archive of their own hardware, because Steve hated looking back and not focussing on the future, which is kind of ironic since they dedicated the book to him. I really think the pictures are gorgeous, but they could have done better by adding text to the pictures to describe the impact of the device or about the manufacturing method or something else...but maybe they are just testing the reactions, and if they are positive, we will see many more products like these?

I love Apple computers, phones and all of the services they offer, but it takes a special kind of arrogance to publish this kind of a pat on the back to yourself.

It's not arrogant at all. There are many people who have been asking for a book like this from Apple, and after 8 years of working tirelessly on this they finally have a very special finished product for us. I'm thrilled and cannot wait to receive my copy later this week.

Since I haven't posted in any of the other Apple photo book forums and someone mentioned that we need another 2-300 post discussion on this, here's mine.

I was thinking of getting this, but I didn't realize it was going to be so expensive.

I usually do not buy books like this so many that price is normal, but I was thinking it would have been less than $50.
Or at the very least certainly not more than $100.

This is ridiculous. We've hit Peak Jony Ive.
Never go full Jony!

The book is too fat. I'll wait for next year's thinner version.
Nice joke (a little less funny the 700th time though in the last 24 hours)
[doublepost=1479311643][/doublepost]This is a consolation for not releasing the Airpods which were sure to be a hot holiday seller.

Ok , its a cool book . But I don't buy the whole "worked 8 years on this" crap.

This book is a perfect addition to my now obsolete 10,000$ Apple Watch Edition. Although fits perfectly to the hip white straghtjacket that they gave me.
