A friend if mine got a copy of this. He said the last couple page of this picture book has all the dongles and colorful bands in it. I can't wait to get a my copy for myself. It's going to amazing and this is going to be a bestseller next year.

Well since all we want are the pictures anyway, they should jus make an screensaver for Apple TV 4th Gen and charge $1.99

Not to be too negative, but it sure seems like Apple's way too big-headed on the design front while they're losing sight of the genuine and disruptive innovations. I mean, their products are beautiful, but when they start publishing photo books dwelling on that, it's obvious where the focus is. Resting on their laurels it seems.

Apple's new "Designed by Apple in California" photo book, chronicling 20 years of Apple design with 450 photos of its products and the processes used to make them, is now available for purchase on Apple's website in a smaller 10.2×12.8 inches size for $199 and a larger 13×16.3 inches size for $299.

The 300-page hardback book, reflecting the time period between the original iMac and Apple Pencil, is estimated to ship in 1 business day in the United States. It is also available in the United Kingdom for £169/£249, with estimated delivery by Friday, and in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The book is dedicated in the memory of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The photos were taken by photographer Andrew Zuckerman. The book is also now available at select Apple retail stores, such as Apple Regent Street in London, Apple Opera in Paris, and Apple Ginza in Tokyo. In the U.S., this includes various locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, and Palo Alto, and at Apple's campus store at its Cupertino headquarters.

In the video, when he said "designers live in the future" I completely felt what he said. I work with products that will show up in future at a set date, and as soon as one product is out I think about the one that is gonna be the next.

Was lucky enough to come home to find my partner had gone out and bought me a copy. The best image has to be this - a prototype board for the Apple Watch. :)

It's not arrogant at all. There are many people who have been asking for a book like this from Apple, and after 8 years of working tirelessly on this they finally have a very special finished product for us. I'm thrilled and cannot wait to receive my copy later this week.
I'm pleased for you brother, don't listen to all the naysayers.. they are only jealous of the bond you and Apple have..

Bought one. Effing stoked. This is the kind of **** I wish Apple has been putting out for years.

Most apple fanboys had to resort to eBay to buy Apple posters, pens, shirts and coffee mugs. I hope apple starts selling that stuff directly on their website. I hire people on craigslist to buy this stuff for me from Apple's campus.

This book is beautiful and I can't wait to get it.

Obvious wishful thinking here, but how about a complementary copy to those of who have blo... er, spent $5000 or more on Apple products?

Only spent $5000 on apple hardware? hah. amateur.

If I add up every apple product I bought new since 1999 (had only bought used before then), I've spent close to 75,000 USD on apple hardware and services. $400 a year for an iPod for 10 years, 700 on a phone for 9 years, $3000 on an iMac or MacBook Pro / PowerBook every other year. then there's all of the dongles, cables, cases, docks, adapters, appleCare.

I've made most of that money back selling my stuff on eBay but I've been a good customer.

Will wait till they come out with the book detailing the process of them making this book.

Sure that will be filled with lols and consumers will buy anything.

It's a beautiful book, but I buy books for words. Jony Ive has the gift of articulating his thoughts on design in a very unique and poetic way, so it would have been more meaningful for me if he would have written a narrative to help take readers on a journey through the evolution of the design principles that guided the creation of the objects being featured.

However, I suppose even Jony realizes he could get away with using the word "meticulous" only a few times before his narrative becomes a parody.

As for the price, thanks to growing up in the 70's, I think it would be worthy if the late Ricardo Montalban's suave voiceover announces that it's bound in rich Corinthian leather. ;)

The preface in the book is much longer than the excerpts released by Apple. And there is an accompanying insert which has a small description of each product and specific manufacturing steps. And then there is a very long glossary of terms explaining various manufacturing methods. So, not a great deal of words but more than I was expecting!

Ooh, that's what I want to hear! Thanks!

There is this book that came out in 1997.

Appledesign: The Work Of The Apple Industrial Design Group
by Paul Kunkel

You can find it on eBay for $400 new (but you can probably pick it up used for $60).

Its a cool book with lots of great images of Apple stuff pre-iphone era.

I know $300 is a lot for a book but just sayin, it seems some books do hold their value and then some.

Flip through one at an Apple Store. Once you've seen the pictures, you've seen them. Next.

Well... yeah, like any ****ing book.

There are peoples who love good Industrial Design and respect that, who will enjoy a high quality print and pictures of well crafted objects.

I'm not the one who will ever buy an art book, or an architecture book, but I respect that some peoples do care and love these things.

It should be an iBook. No need for paper books anymore.

No need for cheaply printed book.

But I assume that at this price it is very high quality prints, way better than your screen is.

Dude, I have a garage full of Apple stuff from my 16 years there. 200+ tshirts, 300+ posters, countless o
Idk why that's seen as a mean post or whatever? I highly doubt Apple would have the book unopened for people to flip through. That's all....
They'll have open copies in the store to look at. Then in a few weeks you'll be able to buy the refurb version.

Im sure the book is nice in quality and the pictures are nice to look at. But the pricing of this book just proves that apple overprice everything they do, way beyond the cost and way beyond reason - but its a good reminder that you pay for the brand and in general its not worth it unless you are a fanboy. 300$ a book, that's something you rarely see these days. Probably cost them 20-30$ to make it. Even with a book to brag/show their own history they want to make extreme profits - usually companies that has a history book only sell such things at the store counter for the particularly interested. Baffled, but no thanks Apple!
