I distinctly remember paying nothing for all macOS flavors in recent memory. I'd equate "nothing" to being "free" unless you have a different definition of "Free"?

It’s important to remember with software; you don’t own it, you merely have a licence to use it. That licence was bundled into the purchase of an Apple hardware device. You cannot get that licence without money changing hands.

That’s fine, as long as you are also happy with people pirating your work, ie, not paying you for it.
Well, I don't expect people to pay every month, again and again, for the rest of their lives, for something they've bought from me once.

Photomator was also updated - gives me a little hope Apple will eventually make that part of this and improve it.

Final Cut Pro and Logic aren't free either. Would be nice if they had an iMovie and Garageband equivalent for Pixelmator, though.

More concerning is adding features to only the Creator Studio versions and not the paid up front ones. Pixelmator Pro seems like it just happens to be the one that differs the most between Creator Studio and original, but I'd expect that gap to grow for the other Creator Studio apps too.
this and also the fact that I bought Final cut, logic, motion, pixelmator pro and photomator, all before this subscription...... not happy about it at all. They should at least offer a year free or something to people like me, but nope its F you loyal customer, in true Apple fashion.
