Apple trying to do Ad business is just like google trying to do Phone business and like Microsoft trying to do Search business.

Sadly the same ending.
:) [lol.wut?]
What is the "ending"?
What's "sad" about it?
Who feels this sorrow?

But yet, when Macrumours publish a positive Analyst-Apple-Report many people here are ready to lick it up... and take the report as being accurate.

Apple are finding iAds very tough sell, due to being expensive and having a lot of control over the content. Advertisers are used to more freedom.

So True. Analysts are only stupid when they release data that conform to Jobsian Euphoria

Prove it. [i.e., quote a post here which backs your bs.]

You take this awfully personal. But just so you dont pop a blood vessel here you go:

Don't you love all these "experts" who get well paid for GUESSING!
The are as bad as the weather forecasters - I take that back - at least there is some hard science in weather forecasting.

This a sign of yet another Wall Street insider short sell scam? I mean Apple stock has been climbing steadily and some may see this as time to "cut it down to size."

"Analysts" predict something then change their mind. Not sure if this affects Apple's plans and I'm pretty sure that Apple have done nothing that was going to affect the outcome of some analyst hokum either way. I really don't understand these companies, they talk utter **** then change their mind when they realise they were way off the mark and suggest that the company have done something wrong.

It's somewhere between comical, manipulative and incompetent.

LOL @ people discounting Apple's entire effort at advertising based on one macrumors garbage article, which was based on a guess.

L.O.L.

Something tells me he will still require further proof. If your really lucky you might even be called a troll but it is the Holiday season so who knows!

Underperforming math

Percent is percent. It doesn't matter how big the market is. If they had predicted Apple would have 21% of the market and they only have 8% that is underperforming no matter how you spin it. Basically other companies were able to take advantage of the growing market and Apple was not.

Actually, that's just bad math. The market DOES matter, because they make the percentages based on real numbers. If you have the wrong real numbers, your percentages are just wrong. Example:

If I look at the apple growers in Michigan grow two types: McIntosh and Grannies. Of the data I collect, I find 100 McIntosh, and 100 Grannies, so I conclude that in the apple market, it's a dead heat: 50% McIntosh and 50% Grannies.

But a couple of months later I discover that I left UP growers out of the data sample. Including them, I find that the market really is 200 McIntosh and 100 Grannies (they all grow McIntosh up there...)

Now the market is 67% McIntosh and 33% Grannies, but the market is now also understood to be 300 apples, not 200.

So, the size of the market (and whether you've correctly counted it) absolutely DOES matter!

So True. Analysts are only stupid when they release data that conform to Jobsian Euphoria

Shouldn't that be "when they DON'T release data that conform", if the data DID conform to "Jobsian Euphoria", you wouldn't be hearing complaints, necessarily, but rather 'Right On!, Right On!' or am I missing something in the structure of your sentence? Which is entirely possible.

Long-term Apple will have absolutely no problem with iAds. Apple devices drive growth of content and services that are tied to them.

The next few quarters (in which we'll witness a veritable iPad sales explosion) will show you exactly why. This is barely scratching the surface.

Apple trying to do Ad business is just like google trying to do Phone business and like Microsoft trying to do Search business.

Sadly the same ending.

Google is about to own more of the smart phone market than Apple, in the next quarter or two. Their CEO said that the investment into Android has already paid for itself many times over, even though Android is open-source and free.

Bing is actually not a bad search engine, though I have no idea if Microsoft has made a profit off that investment. It has beaten Yahoo and has taken some share from Google.

I'd be curious to know what this ending is, and why it's sad? Google seems pretty happy these days.

I don't think that is any mystery that Macs are overpriced for the hardware you get. Its been that way for more than 20 years.

Are there reasons to buy a Macintosh computer? Yes. Bang-for-your-buck is definitely not one of them. Impressing the tweens and art majors at the Starbucks is.

Better in what sense? You are comparing a Mobile Desktop Workstation with a MBP? The nice thing about the MBP is, that it is a refined product. Relatively powerful and yet, portable with a good battery life. Faster, bigger, etc, doesn't necessarily translate into better.

Good luck with that

I hope it is better than the Top of the Line Dell Mobile Workstation I had a few years back, though, which, apart from the Screen, was a piece of junk. But it made me buying a MBP, so, yeah...

Nah... i just prefer that such "useful" posts (or troll bait as you both seem to favor) be accompanied by specific reader quotes, as opposed to vague references and sweeping generalizations.

Thanx.

These new numbers make much more sense... i can't see how Apple's iAds can have equal share to Google's, since iAds only works on Apple's platform; and Apple only has 20% (or so) smartphone market share. P.

Guys... It's not about Android here. Google has Ad programs that run on all mobile platforms, like Google Ad Words which is widely used due to it's low cost and easy entry. This is what makes up probably 90% of their revenue. Do a search on any smart phone in Google and you're going to be served search engine ads.

It's not surprising given that Google has been in the Ad selling business for years now and Apple just started. But they are very different too.

WTF???? Why do people think ONE company (Apple or anyone) is going to "own" the smart phone market? There will always be multiple players and right now it looks like Apple and Google are taking over.

Oh... the "ending"... there is none. Someone else will come along and outdo them both someday. No one in business is on top forever.

Of course it helps their market share. And the buy one get one free crap helps too. Buy one iPhone wannabe phone, give one to someone who would normally not buy an iPhone wannabe to begin with and you're doubling your market share.

giving away or discounting phones has been going on for a long time now. Apple could just as easily give away or discount hardware just like everyone else, but then that would mean steve jobs would have to accept less than obscene margins.

Whats funny is all the steve jobs nuthuggers who are so brainwashed they actually think getting free or discounted hardware is a bad thing for consumers

Brilliant! BOGO is awesome. So if the Droid x or whatever isnt good enough for apple fans, fine. But for the majority of america who likes to be wise with their money it is a sweet deal. Every two years on a contract is great. Im sure if apple started doing it nobody would complain.
