Oh dear. What a pity, never mind.

iMessage is "growing in popularity,"

Really Zuck? I don't know if it's different elsewhere but in the UK at least I barely go on iMessage now everyone's on WhatsApp. And I used to use it a lot.
I don't think you (or I) can speak for the entire UK but as a counter example to your experience, I use iMessage almost exclusively in the UK for all messaging with transparent fallback to SMS for non Apple users.

I closed my WhatsApp account earlier this year or late last year due to the tighter integration with FB. I had already closed my FB account about 10 years ago and have never regretted that.

Cancelling WhatsApp was a bit inconvenient at first because I play in a local tennis league and games are often organised via WhatsApp groups, but people now know that I'm not on WhatsApp and seem to manage to reach me via iMessage/SMS, Email or Signal just fine.

So for anyone out there worried about missing out if they stop using WhatsApp, my experience has been fairly painless.

If facebook was just as fast to find ethically moral and legal ways to make money as they are in hating Apple - facebook would be worth even more money.

Some corporations will never learn. It is more trendy to those certain people to hate on others instead of improving themselves.

Just sitting here with my popcorn waiting for all the gatekeepers to appear telling everyone they are an idiot if they use Facebook….

It’s not really gatekeeping if someone has legitimate reasons for hating Facebook. Let’s face it, that list of legitimate reasons is really long now. If people want to use it, that’s obviously fine for them to do but it is a cancer in many ways.

Social media in general is a cancer for what it does to people, for what it is specifically designed to do. Some good documentaries exist showing design decisions made to make people crave what they get on these platforms. Not to mention the whistleblowers coming out now.

Your statement seems funny considering all of that. Ever thought you might be the Facebook gate keeper yourself?

It's hilarious how they always mention small business in the same sentence as if pleasing them is their business goal.
They've never mentioned them before Apple's privacy rule changes and now they act as if that's all they care about.
Btw, has anyone heard of any small business that's now worse off since iOS 14.5? I'd argue that they are actually saving money by not throwing money that could have been spent better at Facebook.

"As a quick refresher, starting with iOS 14.5 and all newer versions of iOS and iPadOS, Apple requires that apps ask for users' permission to track them across other apps and websites."
Can somebody explain, I'm on iOS 14.2, and still getting ATT prompt from different apps?

Me the gatekeeper? Nah… that’s down to all the people I described. “Good, anyone who uses Facebook is an idiot” types. The clue was in my post.

I am very encouraged to see some of the comments here. Facebook and most social media will eventually be seen as the cigarette smoking of this era. I have a very hard time believing this company does $30b in ad sales per quarter. I know so many people who've abandoned Facebook, including myself after 11 years, totally deleted and gone. "Like us on Facebook" is just pure cringe to me now.

"Headwinds headwinds, blablabla, headwinds, yadda yadda, headwinds something headwinds..."

It's almost sad how blatantly obvious they make their chosen buzz words of the day by overusing them relentlessly.

Hey guys, don't use the words "negative" or "decline" - it's "headwinds"!
Lol! yes of course the good ole wind that hits your head…u know
