iMessage is "growing in popularity,"

Really Zuck? I don't know if it's different elsewhere but in the UK at least I barely go on iMessage now everyone's on WhatsApp. And I used to use it a lot.
This is very interesting to hear! iMessage is the dominant service in Australia and New Zealand as far as I’m concerned but then I may be wrong.

Facebook's chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, also criticized Apple and its privacy rules, going as far as to claim that the new rules are negatively impacting Facebook while benefiting Apple's own advertising business.
I'm not a Facebook fan, but I don't believe for a second that Apple implemented ATT out of charity. Look at Apple's skAdNetwork, ATT allows you to opt out of tracking by Facebook etc, but there is no way to opt out of Apple taking and selling the same information to the ad companies.

If that toxic cesspool of a website died out today, I'd lose no sleep.

Wow any posting about Facebook brings out the childless posts. Lol.

Who gives a rats a$$ about Facebook? Not me. Dont use it don’t pay attention to it. For a place that hates fb you sure pay a lot attention to them. It’s kinda like when Howard Stern wrote about. When they love the listen for an hour. When they hate you they listen for the entire show. ?

There isn’t?

Settings -> Privacy -> Apple Advertising -> Personalized Ads

Slide it to off.

Done.

I believe it was even a question asked when setting up new phones after iOS 14.

To be fair, this: “As expected, we did experience revenue headwinds this quarter, including from Apple's changes that are not only negatively affecting our business, but millions of small businesses…”
… means something very different from this: “Apple’s privacy rules to blame for Facebook’s lower than expected quarterly growth, says Zuckerberg.”

The two statements are actually quite different. The first statement is likely true, and it means adverse conditions existed and this was one of them. The MacRumors version means that Zuckerberg made Apple out to be the sole or main reason for the lower growth, and he doesn’t appear to have said anything of the kind. Please don’t start adopting The National Enquirer as a model for journalism.

Kudos for using a Facebook company to mock Facebook.

One article I read this morning said that Facebook started in university to 'rate girls'. So, knowing that, is anything that has recently happened ANY SURPRISE? Not at all to me. I'm sure, int he beginning, Mark and his friends read every salacious comment and shared them with others. Facebook started out as a malignant force, and has just gown that much more malignant. Facebook needs completely new management, or it needs to die.

They could start by spinning off all of their international subsidiaries so they can more effectively monitor the local political and societal movements. Facebook management is a nightmare of entitlement, and greed, and needs to be changed, or ended. Period... I'm so glad I dropped them. There was so much BS and deliberate flaming. In the end, I had several screens full of people that I had blocked, and close to 50 groups I had joined, and left, and some groups had actually been able to grab me back, which I found pretty psychotic. That a malignant group you quit can suck you back in is mind blowing... And I had a few stalkers too! One created several new accounts, just to slag me on groups I was still in, and slam me in comments there. If Facebook didn't have such an active underbelly, I could see maintaining an account would be an asset, but after all that, I was done...

Yes, there IS life without Facebook!

Except Mark is attacking the media over the leaked documents. I can really see him saying that Apple is hurting Facebook, and it very well could be a clarion call for the 'flying monkeys' to attack Apple, and a warning to anyone else that dares to take on Zuck, or any other muckraker.

IMO that has nothing to do with that. Facebook has become the spot for old ppl and and Trump supporters to go to. Everyone else has sort of left that platform.

Not true. Businesses are on Facebook and 'leverage' Facebook. Until that changes, Facebook will only get stronger. It would seem that MySpace missed out on a way to survive...

Me the gatekeeper? Nah… that’s down to all the people I described. “Good, anyone who uses Facebook is an idiot” types. The clue was in my post.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion though .. and this is a forum for discussion. I don't believe people that use it are idiots (not for the reason of using it at least), but FB pretty much is a plague on people in most cases so I get why a lot of people feel that way.

Facebook hopes that you continue to feel this way, since they are siphoning off your data without your knowledge. :)

The company and their business practices are a problem for everyone, you just don't realize it because you equate not using it to not being affected by it.

Well in my small world, friends, family and work, iPhones and iMessage rule the day. I have one employee that has Android and group texting with this person is not good.

I did think twice about leaving Facebook, and had to claw through the Stockholm Syndrome-esque feelings on some of the good that I did experience being on Facebook. I do miss some of the contacts I had. Biking groups leveraged Facebook, and often I only heard about rides and other bike-centric things only on a Facebook group. But, sitting one night, and reevaluating the totality of me and Facebook, I came to the decision that it was far too negative, far too charged, far to troubling to defend continuing being exposed to it. The sniping, the flaming, the stalking, the idiocy, the smarm, the derp, the gaslighting, the just incredible mess that often happened. The hijacking of a group that I enjoyed by extremists was a low light. It just seemed to be far too negative, and far to nasty which over ran the good that I felt I was getting from it.

And I HAD set my timeline to chronological. The nasty still seeped in... Facebook has an incredible amount of power, and that much power is dangerous. They won't change until they are forced to either from a financial standpoint (which is unlikely) or a legal standpoint. It's a weird situation to be in...

I’m not really concerned about fb. Sorry. If they make a few dollars off some of my browsing habits. Good for them. They will see I read here and a car forum. Not much else unless I’m looking for something

So it’s kinda like apples CSAM. People don’t realize what it really is, beginnings of mass scanning of your data by apple or governments
