Don't worry, stop thinking, Apple Intelligence thinks for you and choose what's the best for you based on experts advice and studies by renowned psychologists. Yep, that's right. Why do you think they made a big deal of the new child protection feature ?? Because they will expand that to everyone, adults too, and Apple Intelligence will be in charge. So Apple Intelligence will decide which apps you can use and when, who you can talk to, what you can see online etc. Meaning when you'll try to turn something off it will ask you to type the special passcode.... and even if you know it that will send a request to Apple Intelligence, something like "Tkermit request to turn off intelligent features. Allow or deny ?" and trust me it will always be denied and the passcode changed in the background. You'll stay happy inside your iPhone, trapped, no way to escape. You'll have everything you could need, everything will be provided for you. You'll have no reason to think about anything. Apple Intelligence will think for you. Will decide for you. Don't think, especially not different.

It's fun to watch the turn around amongst Apple users who insisted they'd "never use anything google related" and now Apple is using Gemini as the literal backbone for Siri since they couldn't figure it out themselves....
If you have as a requirement that Apple has to run and own the entire infrastructure, no it's not. But then iCloud wouldn't be private either.
This is exactly how I live my life. I avoid people and entities I don't like unless I have to, to avoid making my life uncomfortable.
It's a pretty good standard to live by.
Why bother? It's likely already there given all the data breaches that happen seemingly daily. 😉

It's not that simple since Apple users won't be using Google Gemini.
Apple and Google has created a new set of LLMs called Apple Foundation Models. They're based entirely on a Google Gemini model but they're not the same. Some of these models are running on dedicated cloud infrastructure provided by Google and NVIDIA. This means Google can't use the same servers they use for their own Google Gemini.
A waiting list allows Apple (and Google and NVIDIA) to monitor the provision of new servers, the use of the infrastructure, network traffic when millions of new users will try it out in just a few days.
It's a good thing if you want to be in control and want a slow, controlled rollout.
This is just server infrastructure. Why am I seeing some people getting their panties in a twist WRT privacy?
Lots of local businesses and gov orgs run their systems on this stuff (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, etc). You either trust the confidentiality of cloud computing platforms or stop putting personal stuff anywhere online.

Written by Apple engineering or Apple marketing. I doubt it was engineering because Apple rarely allows that.
There is absolutely no way to process any data without it being unencrypted. So it is not a lie.
Now there may be a bunch of marketing mumbo jumbo about how there are protections and all, but the fact remains the processing has to occur unencrypted.

You are getting into conspiracy theory territory even when provided with factual information.
It's not passed through Google Gemini.
Apple and Google created new models for Apple, called Apple Foundation Models, based entirely on Google Gemini. So Google and NVIDIA are running Apple's own models, not Google Gemini.
This allows Apple much more control and allows them to put in more security and privacy features.
If you think Apple and Google are lying, you shouldn't use operating systems and services from them.
I think most Apple users trust Apple although not blindly.

I don't doubt that everyone at Apple feels it is secure.
But Apple cannot even make their own OS software secure running on their own hardware, so why should I think that a system this complex is secure when using software that requires Apple, Google, and Intel.
Intel cannot even make their own CPU hardware secure.
Google is known to steal every piece of data it can.
Apple cannot even make a smart spellchecker, or create spotlight that actually finds all of the files on you device.
I think people are dreaming here.
But, hopefully I am wrong and we won't see a zero day stealing of credentials. I'll bet there are several nation states working on that right now.

So when third party security analysts audit it, they’ll be lying too? Are Intel and Nvidia also lying?
That doesn't mean people or other systems at Google can read the data. If Apple has joint control of the software running on the servers, they can make it almost unfeasible for Google to get unencrypted data in memory.
Not lying, but rather not knowing.
These same security analysts audit all the time, yet we have multiple breaches every week across the IT world.
Security analysts job is to find the easy stuff before others do. Other people are working on the hard stuff.
So when there is an audit, please read the limitations of the audit, these can longer than the audit results.

I can’t believe everyone is that stupid. If Apple allows people to audit its security, someone would poke holes in it if it were as egregious as you claim.
Close, what I do NOT believe is marketing information about a system is not even fully developed being analyzed by Auditors that have relative little experience in these complex system. Yes, the design documents say it is secure. Good.
What I question is the actual implementation.
Well, I have experience doing global software security audits and dealing with auditors.
I wonder how much experience you have.
Because anyone with detail software audit knowledge would not have this wholesale acceptance of audits as the holy grail.
Audits are just one small piece, that can be important or not at any given time or scope. But no one in their right mind would be led to believe "Hey, it was audited, were good to go." Audits simply do not work that way.
Please STOP with posting facts. People want to have their emotional anti-Apple reactions preserved and not have their bubbles burst by articles like these.

I’ve been developing software since the Z80, and I don’t trust/believe you. What makes your opinion on a technology you really don’t know anything about more valid than anyone else here?
