Apple's Pro Display XDR Is Five Years Old Today

The Studio Display is mediocre since launch to me because its screen is worse than ANY prosumer Mac with a screen as they all borrow from the Pro Display XDR’s screen capabilities: The Studio Display doesn’t have 1600 peak nits, 1000 sustained nits nor Dolby Vision + HLG HDR making it inferior to the Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, and even the Vision Pro in various picture quality capabilities to be able to consumer and make prosumer work consistently well across such devices.

Studio Display has the strangest product positioning across all of Apple’s products to me because of that.

I'm hoping a refresh will happen in spring 2025 along the M4 studio. Because literally everything you said... The only thing it has going for it is the better speakers. But literally webcam/nits/accuracy are all better on the MBP

I'd buy a new model tomorrow if it came with speakers like the Studio Display, which I love so very much except for its size; I'd buy another tomorrow if I were in the market, exactly as it is - there's nothing else I would change about it.

It's also why I still have a MacPro 5,1 driving two 30" Cinema Displays.

I got me some KEF speakers - you'll never want back to integrated speakers after that

a pity - finally got one last December as I gave up on hoping for an update from Apple

I visited my nearest Apple store yesterday and they didn't even have one of these on display. Plenty of studio displays though.

they don't have them everywhere - I'd try to get a look, specially if you are considering the nano-coated version

I’m not in the market for one, I was just curious while I was there.

The best Price in Switzerland dropped significantly over the recent months. It’s at its lowest price ever. I wouldn’t wonder if it is approaching its end of life. Pro Display XDR 2 alongside the M4 Mac Pro in October or even WWDC in June?
