I'd still be very wary of the Graphite coating. I have already exchanged my Graphite SS AW6 because the Milanese loop band had scratched the watch case within a couple of minutes of fitting the band (band went back and i had a replacement watch) Im really not sure about these high gloss finishes now which is annoying because i want to get the pro model.
I like the high gloss. Looks amazing. But knowing that silver can be polished, makes it hard for me to choose anything else. And knowing the PVD isn’t as durable as I thought would be worrying if I kept this colour.

Wanted the silver too but can’t stand the creamy looking white back and glossy camera square. Bummer

It will work, but you will basically be buffing off microlayers of the PVD, and over time it might wear down to reveal the steel.
Thanks, good to know, at least if the steel is revealed, at least it won't be noticeable compare with blue, gold, or graphite.

I don’t know how to feel about threads like this. We live in an imperfect world. A dot wouldn’t bother me, a noticeable scratch on the band would. I don’t have the staff at the apple store touch my phone at all. It stays in the box until I get home. I don’t know if anything I’m saying is relevant. I just want to join in.

These scratches suck but can easily be buffed out. I would do it myself instead of more exchange hassle.

Here’s my gold 12 pro for your scratch-free viewing pleasure

Don't trust anyone to install a screen protector other than yourself!
Agreed...done it for all of my phones and iPads over the years. No problem. Never really done it for protection; always for ease of cleaning.....that oliophilic (?) coating is a pain to clean. Screen protectors clean with a few swipes.

Omg guys, what is this black dot. It’s like a part of the paint behind the glass. If I shift it down the dot is gone. But if it is raised the dot is visible. Looks worse in person. Wtf

Many years ago...when I purchased my first NEW car....I obsessed over every bird dropping or parking lot minor (and I do mean minor) anything...then I realized that the vehicle got me to where I was going (fulfilled its purchase rational) and I stopped....now when confronted with such issues I consider myself fortunate to not have .............(insert other than truly first world problem).....

Correction: Oliophobic....

That’s crazy. Get a new phone and install the screen protector yourself. You’ll be the one to be most careful with it.
I put my ESR on with the tray that came with it and no scratches. But who knows, I could have just been lucky.

Wow. That's quite a hassle you've been through.

I used to always put on a screen protector myself but after a while I end up just taking it off and use it without it. It feels so much better.

But I do use this product: https://www.spigen.com/collections/...or-glas-tr-nano-liquid?variant=12073464102959

It's a nano liquid screen protector, a silicon dioxide. Of course it does wear out like any coating at some point.

So far I have't applied this coating on mine yet. I still don't have any scratches, and not even worried. *Knock on Wood.

A thin felt lining on the plastic parts that touch the phone would prevent scratches.

I work in automotive and we have plastic tools to line up trunk badges that have felt lining to prevent paint scratches. I can tell you every single time I install a badge in front of a customer, they complain about felt lint getting under the edges of the badge. They start plucking the lint out.

Now imagine that under the edges of a screen protector.

I think the creamy back you saw is the gold model. I have a silver 12 Pro and it is white as snow. No creaminess to be found. The silver 12 rear glass is not as white though.

That’s completely different than receiving an already damaged product. SMH 🤦🏻

It’s more about receiving a scratched phone with a new purchase than it is about avoiding scratches.

What are they clamping it down in? That is stainless steel and no plastic could scratch that. It would need to be comparable or greater hardness for it to be scratched by it. If anything plastic would be scratched or rub off onto the stainless steel and it could be just rubbed off after.
