Now that you mention it, that may have been the problem with that particular store. Other members haven’t had problems at other locations.
The one I observed had flat rails. It had pretty big teeth. I wonder if the iPhone can be slid under rather than trying to grind it thru the teeth

edit: nvm IIRC the corners of the teeth curve, meaning the iPhone cannot be slid under

I don’t know how to feel about threads like this. We live in an imperfect world. A dot wouldn’t bother me, a noticeable scratch on the band would. I don’t have the staff at the apple store touch my phone at all. It stays in the box until I get home. I don’t know if anything I’m saying is relevant. I just want to join in.

Sometimes the way warranties work you’re left with little choice. I ordered a mattress years ago that was delivered in a rainy day and the way the guys pushed it into the house tore the plastic cover and caused a tiny bit of a scuff on the mattress. I called and asked if I could just note it on the account so in the event it led to an issue it was known I didn’t get it wet and scuffed there. They told me no, if it was damages on delivery they need to replace it. That’s it - an otherwise perfectly good mattress being taken out and dropped in the dump because under the warranty I’d be in a bad spot down the road.

Camera lenses can have some minor optical flaws that most people wouldn’t notice, but if I buy a $2000 lens and can check for that immediately, it’s much less of a hassle to simply exchange it for another one right away than have to send it for repair if I notice it 10 months later.

The phone serves a utility purpose so I don’t worry about it being cosmetically perfect forever, but something wrong out of the box or damaged by Apple employees in a process meant to add a layer of protection needs to be remedied on something I’m paying $1000+ for.

I was at the Apple Store this morning and they did a perfect machine install of the Belkin UltraGlass screen protector on my 12 Pro Graphite 🙌 No scratches or anything!

I had a similar experience on my graphite 12 pro. Not the slightest scratch. And I am extremely OCD about these things.

can you guys share pictures, especially a video of glistening the metal with the light. Would be great to show this to Apple just in case they don’t wanna install a screen protector for me again lol

That’s probably why I’m not choosing silver for the pro max. It scratches easily. The stainless doesn’t have the color coating like gold or blue etc. There are polishing cloths available on Amazon that do well with buffing the scratches out. I’ll have to look for them and post a link if you are interested.

I never use any screen protector on my phone since long long time !!

And this iPhone 12 model have Ceramic Shield added on , so , no worry about the screen too

Why would they have metal guides or slots in a machine like that. Certainly, plastic cannot scratch the sides. Bottom line for all. Check your phone before you leave.

Forget your scratches. Mine arrived with chips and a rough edge. I've not even powered it on.

I’m glad I’m sticking with my 11 pro max for another year. I’ve used a number of screen protector frames and none have scratched the midnight green stainless steel....I really hope they make it more durable for the 12S/13.

I spoke with a supervisor at the store, he said he will help me out and check if the machine is at fault. I mean, if my plastic alignment tool scratched mine, so will theirs I guess. I just don’t know how to tell them that, but they think plastic won’t damage polished steel

I found even more scratches!!!!View attachment 973357View attachment 973358
Crazy if your alignment tool would scratch. The stainless steel must be really ‘soft’. Sounds like any kind of normal use without case would show significant wear. Disappointing

Bruh, I just went to get my iPhone exchanged and had Apple install a screen protector for me.

They clamped it down to a machine, and look what I just found when I got home and inspected my new iPhone.View attachment 973332View attachment 973329
Oh man I’m sorry!! I have 2 tiny PVD scratches; not sure if they were there out of the box or if Bestbuy did it. I almost wanna return it but they’re so small and the “iPhone lottery” is a slippery slope!! Could be much worse, clicky back, uneven buttons, uneven screen color, burnt out pixels, scratched or chipped screen, dust under the camera ugh lol!

Did Best Buy install a glass screen protector on your screen?

You could always buy more and return the others that are lower quality, that’s what I’ve done before

Yeah Bestbuy installed it. As far as buying more and replacing, like I said that’s a big gamble lol!! And honestly, it’s never ending ... in the end you take the least offensive issues with Apple devices. Foxconn QC is a disaster! I’ve had tons of other non Apple devices that have a way better record, but, I love Apple as a whole so stick it out 😃

And my 2 are so tiny I almost didn’t see them ... with yours omg that’s waaaay to many to live with and I would just return it for a refund and buy another (that way no explanation needed to Apple:)
