Governments need to stop pussyfooting around with Apple. Issue a daily fine 10x their daily revenue in the country and see how long it takes Timmy boy to comply.
Apple should reduce it's footprint and shut down the app store in some countries. (says the guy with apple stock)

That could work as well, force them to put up a message stating: “we refuse to follow the law so the App Store has been shut down please send your thoughts to tim@apple.com

Sure they could put up a message saying: "governments are forcing us to give away our revenue and to operate in a lawful manner and preserve our revenue we are taking action. Please email your local legistator"

To preserve their revenue they're eliminating a revenue stream and severely hampering another? Really weird strategy.

Imagine feeling this entitled to something you didn't build, and that there are alternatives for. You want other payment methods South Korea? Use Android which already exists, or better yet, build your own phone with its own OS and app store. Oh, you won't because predictably it would be a trash product with barely any exposure that nobody would want to use? I guess therein lies the value of Apple's app store. A safety component of which is not accepting payment through outside platforms that could reflect poorly upon Apple.

"We want to take something of value from you for free, but we don't want to pay you a reasonable cut in exchange."
Apple should tell these moron lawmakers to pound sand, and threaten to pull out of the country until they get it together a little bit

Yes, imagine feeling entitled to revenue for the game you didn't build.... or the subscription service you don't run

If a government is going to come in and take the app store, leaving Apple no recourse, Apple might have to take drastic action.
And that’s why you’re a sanitation engineer and not a business executive.

I love all the immature comments of "Apple should pull out of country X" or out of all 29 states.

Great idea, see how that works out for them.

First of all, people aren't dumb. They will see the cause of their pain in using their iPhones is being caused directly by Apple's actions of pulling out of the market, not something the government did that impacted the rates paid to Apple from developers.

Second, not everyone is as loyal as you. That is a great way to get people to leave for the other platform.

I swear, the people here are so short sighted....

It's not a thing? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-55760673

Let me think about it....nah. I'll continue to advocate that governments sometimes don't make the best calls, best laws, best decisions.
And everyone knows that a for profit enterprise is always looking out for everyone’s best interest. We should probably appoint Tim Cook emperor as well.

In this case, if one wants the convenience of doing what ever one wants to their phone...there is an alternative. Nothing to do with companies looking out for their customers best interests. Customers should look out for their best interests.

And they didn't actually do it
More so, most people didn't pay Google for anything.

If you disrupt millions of users by shutting down your app store and blocking them from making use of their $1200 device that runs their daily lives, they are going to hold it against you. If you end up blocking their work apps that have a subscription because you no longer want to process fees to make a statement, they are going to leave for a different platform.

What is your end goal, to voluntarily and permanently deeply erode Apple's Market share in half the world because you are butt hurt that the governments want some regulations on Apple's App Store?

At least people are being ideologically consistent.

When developers don't like Apples rules, they are told, "Just sell on a different platform! You don't need to be here if you don't like the rules"
So it makes "sense" when Apple doesn't like the governments's rules, the same "logic" applies.

Nobody is forcing you to sell your product (physical or digital) through a particular store. If you want to put your physical product in Target, there are terms that benefit both you and Target, and they have quite a bit of leverage. If you want to sell your digital product that runs on an iPhone, in Apple's ecosystem, there are terms that benefit both you and Apple, and Apple not surprisingly has quite a bit of leverage. Now a bunch of apparent children are trying to force Apple by law to still provide you with the benefits of their hardware, software, and app store while weaseling out of paying their fair share.

Here's the flowchart. You see that a huge number of people use Apple's smartphones, you see that Apple has an app store that they use. You see value in creating software that runs on Apple's phone, and is distributed through their app store. You do a cost benefit analysis - is the cost of being in the store worth developing the software for it? If yes, go for it. If no, just don't develop the software and stop complaining. Go develop for Android, where anything goes. It's like the wild west. Apple users on average don't like their app store being the equivalent of some lawless wasteland like the Android experience

I wasn't talking about that and more about saying Tim should pull Apple out of a bunch of different markets as if a 4-year old was running the company and throwing a tantrum.

End goal is to allow corporations to operate legally and not have governments usurp their intellectual property. What is your end goal? To continue to support governments eroding innovation by creating laws after the fact to usurp companies ip if you don't like the way they operate?

Very true, there are people in this forum telling me all the time that I should go use Android because I have issues with the way Apple does somethings. In the end, they will advocate for a platform that has no users, no developers, and isn't available in any country.

Operate Legally... means operating within the LAWS set by a GOVERNMENT. The Government is free to set their own rules, not corporations.

Do you want to try again?
