Not at first. Start in the US, they can continue to use existing networks in other countries and expand as they see fit, just like they don't have to use AT&T (or any one provider) in every country now. Sure, you might have some advanced features not available in those countries initially, but you could still sell phone. You can't use Wi-Fi on Chinese iPhones, but they're still selling them there until they figure out how to make it happen.

Dude do you know how much it would cost for Apple just to build a network just in the US, it would certainly be more than all the cash they currently have and that`s just in one country.

You exhume references to your cellphone which you made in February 6 and 24, 2008, and expect us to assume that the model is current with you?

It all becomes that much more revealing that you fail to disclose this within your most recent rants.

...and you hypocritically speak of "falling behind."

Priceless.

But more to the point, look at my comments and notice that the majority of them are related to the usability of the Iphone on the AT&T network, not to the Iphone itself (although I'm a fan of physical keyboards, so I've made that clear).

Other advanced smartphones on other carriers don't seem to have the connectivity and call quality problems of the Iphone+AT&T. I've not been claiming that my Verizon/WinMo phone is a better PDA than the Iphone (except for the keyboard issue), but saying that it's a great telephone (umm, isn't that the primary mission?) and I get good 3G coverage everywhere I go in the Bay area. (No bars in Papua New Guinea, though.)

But, go ahead and pretend that Iphone call quality and network issues are only Aiden's imagination. ;)

The fact remains that you continually name the iPhone (product) while comparing it to Verizon. (carrier)

Are you trying to infer that the alleged problems cease to exist while using a Motorola RAZR on the AT&T network? Why not mention specific models of the Verizon phones then?

Instead, you remain intent on being inconsistent.

Sensibly, comparing Verizon's service to AT&T's service, or Verizon's phones to AT&T's phones, would be a good start. ;)

Aiden seems to have issues here, this much is clear.

That's so dumb. Apple have made ads just as offensive.

I don't take homophobic underline lightly. Trying to use it to gain commercial advantage just get me into the worst mood. Besides at that time I was already pissed about Uganda's bogus "kill the gay" bill, I'm not proud what I did but neither do I regret.

Is homophobia any worse than stereotyping people who wear glasses? The droid adverts do not in anyway compare with Uganda.

Yes, it's far worse. People who wear glasses are not persecuted on a global scale.

The Droid ad of course do not compare with the situation in Uganda. All I'm saying is I'm already pissed about the issue, the ad didn't help a bit. I felt deeply offended and decided to take some action within my own power.

And why would you assume that I changed to a new shiny thing that I saw on the Internetz?

I'm not talking about a global scale I merely mean in the context of these adverts. For you to relate the adverts to a wider global picture is to blow it out of proportion.

It's at the moment very personal to me. I think I explained myself enough and this is no place to drag the discussion into the mud of politics.

You don't have to agree with me. And I'm afraid I will keep overreacting about similar issues until I feel there is no need.

The "cool, hip" example poking fun at the stodgy, stuffy old guard, is not only typical and widespread enough for it to have lost any real teeth, but it's also an archetpye. Have a look at the US Presidential campaigns over the last 30 years or so, for example. The new, and hip and cool is in perpetual conflict with the conservative, staid and stuffy, in nearly all social and political spheres. Except Apple turns even the most acceptable of conflicts into something clever and even likable. There is absolutely zero comparison between the socially distasteful (putting it mildly) Verizon ads and Apple's lovable Odd Couple. Apple's ads have won awards as well.

Is homophobia any worse than stereotyping people who wear glasses? The droid adverts do not in anyway compare with Uganda.

WTF are you talking about?

When was the last time a religious group picketed the funeral of someone who wears glasses?

When was the last time some good-ol-boys dragged a glasses-wearer behind their truck?

When was the last time someone pulled out some bible verses to denounce people who wear glasses?

When was the last time you saw legal struggles over whether glasses-wearers could be married?

Have you heard anyone claim lately that AIDS is God's judgment against those who wear glasses?

Do you need an answer to your question? If so, then yes, homophobia is much worse than stereotyping people who wear glasses because the former is rooted in a lot of religious and social fears that appear to drive people to violence and self-righteous, destructive behavior.

And why would you assume that I changed to a new shiny thing that I saw on the Internetz?

How are people expected to mine, let alone locate, your two dated references from almost two years ago?

You mysteriously chose not to disclose your phone's make and model, for reasons which have now become fairly obvious.

Not to mention, that for many, two years would not be an unreasonable life-span, for a cell-phone.

Your conspicuous omissions speak volumes.

Read my other post. I am only talking about these adverts. Relating the homophobia in the adverts to any wider practices is like saying any muslim who insults a westerner is just as bad as any suicide bomber.

And in any case, I haven't seen anything homophobic in the droid adverts, although I don't live in the US. Is he referring to the princess phone? If he is then he really is reading things that aren't there.

Backpedal away, again.

Unless you can point out some post of mine where the exact model of my Verizon smartphone is important in the context of the post - you're just continuing your ad hominem diatribes.

But, that's nothing new.

Bickering aside, congrats to Apple.

I wonder how much recent success rides on the wave of the iPhone? Aside from iPhone sales, there must be some new iPhone users that have invested in getting a Mac as Apple's brand awareness grows.

Not really all that "mysteriously" - can't you smell the shame?

Rest assured he says his nightly prayers for a Dell smartphone running Windows Mobile - clinging to the glory days of yesteryear, hoping for a miraculous comeback.

Me, I can't wait to see Microsoft's bastardized version of iPhone OS (a.k.a. Windows Mobile 7). Sure, it will be 3 years too late, but it should be worth some laughs ("You flick to scroll!!!"). The sweaty unveiling by Uncle Fester, er, Ballmer will be a real treat.

Backpedal away, again.

Backpedal?

Priceless, you apparently neither understand the meaning nor concept of backpedaling.

What's all the more epic here, is that you've created the necessity for a brand new term: backdredging.

When questioned about your conspicuous omissions, you responded by dredging up references which you made nearly two years ago:

You are falling behind in your ability to support your arguments....

Unless you can point out some post of mine where the exact model of my Verizon smartphone is important in the context of the post

Then, to descend further, you hypocritically address "...the context of the post."

This surpasses all.

To spell it out for you, the issue of your lack of consistency, from the outset, stemmed from your biased statements, which pitted a specific model (iPhone) against a carrier (Verizon) with no mention of your cell phone's make or model.

When you were called on it, you backdredged, claiming that you have, indeed, revealed the make and model, albeit nearly two years ago.

Keep it up, your ability to surpass yourself is rapidly becoming legendary.

Samsung + Windows Mobile? Ouch. No wonder the guy is so unhappy - and determined to spread his angst here on MacRumors.

Misery loves company. Please buy a Dell! Please?

Oh yes, quite a steady, odiferous stream.

No doubt, he'll be the first one touting its glory, while Uncle Fester rallies a chant for a WinMo comeback:

Winvelopers, Movelopers, Winvelopers, Movelopers, Winvelopers, Winvelopers, Movelopers...... (damn you Schmidt!)

A match made in heaven. (or hell, depending on his, or our perspective of reality)

Overvalued

I have to say that with Apple trading at all-time highs, a P/E of 33 and higher and higher expectations for earnings in January, these expectations will not be met and then we´ll have the usual seasonal downturn for Apple and other tech stocks in the months ahead. Wall street like to take things to extremes. Even back in 2007 after the introduction of the iPhone the stock did not go up much for another two months. Now the stock is up almost 3 times since the $78 low a year ago. One have to ask what has so dramatically changed for Apple since that time to justify this share price and almost $200B market cap. Similarly we should remember that last year Apple sold 40% less phones in calendar q4 than q3, so why should we expect them to sell 50% MORE phones in calendar Q4 than Q3 this year? I´m sure the economic situation had something to do with it, but also that we had the initial increased sales with the introduction of a new model, which vaned somewhat in the christmas quarter. I expect similar this time around. As much as I love Apple, I would never buy Apple stock at this point.

Sorry to interrupt the argument but can someone tell me when we had to start posting our user-agent strings to prove our Apple product buying drone status or otherwise?

It's an inside joke, spoofing the signature of a bona fide proselytizer.
