Samsung is working on foldable self eating spoons. I hear it is going to be big. These spoons feed you and all you have to do is sit there and pretend to be an advanced high evolved species.

But they fold right? I need things to fold.

Everything will fold and go in your wallet. Self driving foldable flying cars. Self eating foldable forks and knives. Self gaming foldable VR headsets. Self walking foldable shoes. Self folding foldable companies. All we have to do is let foldable self doing things self do things and we sit back and watch AI generated ads all day.

I never knew I needed a self driving foldable car until you just mentioned it. Now I hate my non foldable EV.

Things that don't fold just... suck!

Funny, wasn’t it Gurman who said it will be released in Q1 23 and now he says Apple plans to release in the fall? When does he ever admit that he has no real insights and just makes stuff up?
And if the other article is right that Apple is holding back other product updates in favor of this stuff - it’ll fire back

The ultimate device for social isolation. I guess I am getting too old, however I feel sorry for our future generations. Take a walk in a park and enjoy the true natural world.
Quote from douglas adams:

I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Yeah lets not propagate that quote.

Anybody else thinks this sounds like a “me too” product just like the Apple Watch? The AR market hasn’t been established yet, the only time I remember Apple being first was with iTunes

Well they seem to be banking on being the ones to start it, to do what Meta couldn't and finally make AR mainstream.

Apple Watch wasn't first but it seems to be the most successful smart-watch. iPhone wasn't first but it blew other smartphones out of the water. The HomePod was a true example of Apple getting to the market late and failing to change it.

I guess we'll see what happens with these goggles, but I don't predict them being the ultimate game-changer "next iPod" that some seem to think.

I'm 24 and I feel the same. I still use tech as a tool, something I can be somewhat detached from, and something that I still have some control over and doesn't think for me. I have significantly cut down on social media/forum use in recent years. I don't want a device that replaces my senses. For gaming I think it could be a fun thing to use occasionally. As a phone or computer replacement, no thanks.

I still think this is waporware.. I just don’t see the public thinking “hey, Let’s spend 1000$+ to isolate ourselves or our kids from the real world”.
Besides, killer app’s can only really be found in the enterprise space (guides and visualization). In the private space, games is the only currently known “potential killer app” for complete isolation like this. Sure - it will be fun to try other stuff - but I don’t see a daily driver usecase worth a 1000$+…

Still not even remotely sold on the need for this device or whether it will be worth the trade-offs of a heavy headset on your face. Of course, I was also incredibly skeptical of the Apple Watch and now it’s a daily wear device for me. So, if anyone can change my mind, it’s Apple!

I will say it is very nice to see Apple making new hardware for a change instead of yet another subscription or advertising “service” to grow revenue. I’m rooting for this device to succeed for that reason, even if I never buy one.
I think there is a business case there. I am tired of setting up new monitors, laptops and desktops for users. This sounds like a more seamless experience. The work place of the future will be very different, especially for those born today and just leaving high school. Thats a very mobile centric generation and they don't want the large bulking display. They want a device that's mobile, immersive and still compliments their really world.

Sure, its gonna be a virtual macOS desktop in a pair of goggles initially, but it will likely become more sophisticated. But that is likely not a bad thing and Apple would likely have a foot in the game than leave it to Meta or someone else. Our MacBook Pro's and Studios, Displays aren't going anywhere. But I see huge changes coming in the next 10 to 15 years as the workforce changes.

The ultimate aim though is to bring the technology down to the size of a Rayban sunglasses that you would wear everyday without thinking about it.

I’m waiting for the Reality Pro Max. The base non-pro doesn’t have enough storage or the extra camera. I don’t care about the cost.

Well well. I’ve been pretty skeptical of articles like this over the years. But in the context of everything we’re seeing right now, I think this might actually be accurate. Apples attempt at augmented reality finally coming

Rubbish , it won’t be announced in spring or at WCD , this rumour happens every year it was only last month there was articles saying the release date was 2024 and the announcement was fall 2023. Can’t believe you lot are guliable and believe this crap. Spring will come and no announcement, WCD will come in June and no announcement then all you fan boys and media will start your usual posts about how apple are let downs and not innovating anymore blah blah blah. WCD will focus on the final shift to M1 and 2 chips , will focus on a re branded iPad OS that will be shifting to a more computer esc system , and iPhone 15 software which will focus more on health and better picture quality with iPhone 15 shown in September with the camera specs

Something tells me that the folks at Apple know a tiny bit more than you do about whether or not this is a good idea.

It sounds like they have likely been working with specific developers already, but I wonder why there will be a gap between spring and WWDC before (presumably) most developers are able to start work on apps. Maybe they feel that between them and these specific partners they will have enough at the outset, or maybe they have made it so porting a Swift app to the platform will be easier than imagined. Either way, this will be an exciting launch.
