Video conferencing with a AR/VR-headset on? Wow, that will be interesting for other participants . Or, they want everyone to have a headset on and meet in a Virtual environment?
Well, solution looking for a problem.

Yep. Looks like a flop.

I wasn’t that much interested in VR-stuff until I bought an oculus quest 2. This is so amazing that I am eagerly awaiting such an apple product.

The only thing that confuses me is that all other platforms are refered to as "TARGET_OS" and RealityOS is refered to as "TARGET FEATURE"

Curious that it is referred to as a feature instead of an OS. Maybe realityOS will run stand-alone or part of another OS. Kind of like the Oculus Link on macOS or Google Daydream / AR glasses that lack their own operating system with iOS. Maybe even third-party headsets on Mac. The old iOS 13 leaks suggest the APIs are general enough to support multiple headsets. I could see Apple leaving the low-end market that uses host side rendering to third parties like HTC, Valve, or Logitech. Low end VR probably isn’t up to Apple standards, but may be fine with many consumers that would have otherwise bought a Quest 2.

Strange choice of naming for technology you use to change something real into something plainly not real ?

realityOS is a bit of an oxymoron, but yeah, I get it. And it doesn't sound that bad.

A lot of replies here seem to think that Apple is in the VR world, where they've always really demonstrated pushed AR. There have been plenty of demos where Apple enhances the reality you see (well, what the camera sees) and not creating whole new worlds.

Agreed but AR is still less real than reality. Not that it really matters, I suppose. One thing I’m pretty sure of is that it will get more and more buggy with each and every software update ?

I can't wait... as long as it can connect to a keyboard. My dream setup will ditch my Mac Mini and use augmented reality in my work as a professional writer. Imagine being able to grab documents from a pile on the desk, stick notes on the wall, and keep everything totally private since no one else will be able to see what I am working on.

Seems like there might actually be something to the rumors. If realityOS is showing up in code now we will probably hear more about it later this year.

If there's anything to be excited about this product, it's that its from Apple. I love VR (even in its obvious infant state) and there's great room to grow, but a company like Apple can really bring this type of stuff to the masses.

My niece doesn't want AirPods to get wireless headphones and have them seamlessly sync with her devices, she wants them because they're "trendy". It was the first thing she said when she got them: "Now I'm trendy".

Publicity from Apple products is second to none. I really hope this doesn't flop so the platform, as a whole, can take itself to the next level. The untapped potential is enormous, but until its mainstream, that potential will lock away lots of really cool uses for VR/Mixed Reality.

With those “use cases” - this will not go mainstream…
Gaming - sure, makes sense but you got to beat oculus
Streaming video - aka porn, sure
Video conferencing - not gonna fly

Apple got to come up with some much more useful use cases… remote troubleshooting, on the job training come to my mind.

Meta tried that during the last OculusConnect FacebookConnect MetaConnect. Hopefully full body tracking, face tracking and eye tracking as well as more general refinements to Horizon will make this less awkward.

OMG this is horrible. How come people would prefer this to actually see each other faces? Like human features interactions. How could anyone have a proper dialogue if I can't see someone reacting to what I have said?
