Remember the famously dual-sourced A9 from both Samsung and TSMC? One of them clearly performed better.

Soon, people will want to check if their A22 came from Intel or TSMC.
They're never going to dual source a specific device again. It's not really possible for two different fab processes to create identical chips, so the specific designs would vary. That means two parallel design and validation cycles. It's almost double the expense.

Why? Apple can just build their own fab.
Are you serious? Building a modern state of the art chip fab is not something you decide to day one day. Do you have any idea of how difficult this would be for a company that has never done it before? You can't just go out and hire Fabs-r-Us.
