This doesn't sound like a bad thing, but I really don't understand all the fuss over it. I've seen at least a dozen articles on this, patent analysis, podcasts, etc. over the past week. Is it really that life-changing of a development? Besides, don't most people keep the USB end plugged into the charger most of the time anyway? I have 6 iPhone and iPad chargers, I rarely take the USB end out.

Agree. Unless I'm missing something, basically all it does is give you the ability to plug it in in either orientation? Big deal.

I just hope, they make durable and good built quality cables and headphones. They've had one of the worst quality of headphones and lightning cables thus far. Really pitty with such a high-end phone.

When will there be a Thunderbolt to Lighting cable? The naming schemes seem like they go together, and it would finally give that port on my Mac something to do!

73% of focus group participants found the combination of Thunderbolt and Lightning to be very, very, frightening.

It is these same focus group participants who derailed the plan to have OSX Lion be followed with OSX Bear. They were OK with single user licenses but when they found out it would be possible for a multi-user environment to run Lions and Tigers and Bears they said "Oh my."

I never understood why the ****** USB standardisation organisation didn't design the plugs reversible in the first place. Anoyed me countless times.

j.

How many times do you plug/unplug your lighting-cable into a USB port?

Mine usually stays connected to the power adapter.

Actually fairly often, when I sync with iTunes. It's nice to not worry about cable orientation anymore.

Hell it'll even help when plugging it back into the power adapter!

I'm more interested in Apple making a battery that doesn't need to be constantly charged than Apple making a reversible USB.

The days of the ~1500-1800mAh batteries need to go.

Really hoping the 5.5" has 2900+ because despite the larger screen I think it'll put the 4.7" battery life to shame.

Double sided USB... AWESOME

This is what Intel should have developed 15 years ago. That it hasn't been improved in the last 15 years speaks volumes about others' willingness to maintain the status quo, and why Apple is doing so much better than everyone else.

What's annoying is that USB connectors could have been reversible right from the start, had someone thought of it. But no one did. And they weren't. All these years.

Every time I don't have a spare whole afternoon for WiFi sync to sync a single photo.

It would probably be priced at $60 a pop if Apple is feeling generous.

They should stick a USB charging port on macbook chargers too. It would save so much hassle.

It's called a PlugBug from Twelve South..

am i the only one thinking that the guy in the video is an idiot?
Who the hell removes a plug by pulling the stress thing... just seams like the fastest way to destroy it.
Pull with a grip on the plastic to ensure your cable lives longer

We are informed by the Official Appointed Manufacturer of Apple

Are they serious? It sounds like royalty. Maybe it's a misprint and should be "the Official Anointed Manufacturer of Apple".

All Apple would need at this point is another cable problem on their hands. They might be putting the new cable through rigorous tests to make sure it doesn't fry like some others.

Meanwhile, if people really want this there are other manufacturers making them.

I'd be happy if the standard cable simply had a raised bump on one side. My ear buds have that and after a short while discerning left and right becomes almost an unconcious action

Are the older style power adapters that came with previous model iPhones still going to be able to charge the new iphone models? I have numerous chargers I don't want to have to replace all of them

I'm seeing a lot of this:

"Apple shouldn't be wasting time making reversible cables, they should be doing *insert wish here* instead!

Do people not understand that Apple is a huge corporation capable of doing more than one thing at a time, and that there are other reasons why they haven't done whatever you wanted them to do?

If there's a need you have that Apple isn't fulfilling, don't buy their products.

Pretty sure older chargers will charge new iPhones at the same rate that older chargers currently do. The difference is that the new iPhones will have larger batteries and will take longer to charge- especially the 5.5" model.

Well, I certainly won't be buying the new iPhone now.

haha.... i'm already happy with iPhone 5s.

Just like Apple to chicken out.. But adapters are still cool..

everyone want a bit of plastic protruding from their phone. :p The Camera kit is an example of this.

I would think somebody is going to hear from Apple for violating their non disclosure agreement.
