Just be thankful you weren't born in that country
There is a reason why iCloud storage and backups is not end to end encrypted. After the Snowden revelation, it would be nuts to voluntarily keep your data in the U.S.
There are 1.3 billion people living in China. If they’re not uprising against the commies, who’s Apple to decide what’s best for those people? As long as these decisions only affect China, then whatever. I have issues when western corporations decide that what’s good for China is also good for everywhere else. Not OK.

Neither can entities like the NBA and elected officials of the US (cough).
Since Apple is so about social justice, they showed little compassion or regard for the Hong Kong protests.
I really wonder how Jobs would have handled this. Kinda think the opposite of Cook.
That’s why we have these imaginary things called countries with different human made up laws and rules. As I don’t want other countries interferring with the policies or politics of mine, I also cannot opine on how another country is governed. If you believe in democracy (power of 50%+1), then you must also believe that the people of China have chosen their system based on their total compliance and lack of pushback/uprisings on a national scale, even though they don’t have elections, they do elect their system every day with their compliance (Tiananmen Square being the exception)."It's okay when it happens in their country, but not when it happens in mine."
They only claim that in the western world. I don’t think they have the same privacy ads running in China (maybe I’m wrong). So they’re not total hypocrites. Next time the US government threatens them with a total business ban, I’m sure they’ll comply with everything the FBI will ask of them. Write to your congress people to change the laws. I did. They did squat. So I’ll vote for better people next time.Nobody is asking Apple to do that, although they do like to claim they are into social changes... when it fits them.
I know you have fallen for their spell, but this is clear that all those things they say are simply marketing c&%p, they care nothing about your privacy and clearly cannot protect you anyway based on all the targeted ads we are still getting and how they easily comply to any external power... It is funny how they challenge the FBI in court but when in China they just accept everything they impose.
And this is NEW news?
Maybe Qanon is more your speed.Ah, New York Times... the narrative generator.
Corruption exists in China, but it is not why China has success, quite the opposite. It is their authoritarian system combined with Confucian ideas. Here's something that'll blow your mind - Corruption (and therefore the trickle down theory) is the reason China has been so successful in the last 20 years? Blows your mind eh? Completely counter-intuitive to how it SHOULD work.
Maybe Qanon is more your speed.
At least India doesn’t have 2m people locked up in a modern day concentration camp. Confucius says China is run by an evil corrupt dictatorship.Corruption exists in China, but it is not why China has success, quite the opposite. It is their authoritarian system combined with Confucian ideas.
And while i hardly would call it communist, the poorest have on average gotten much higher living standard. Compare it to India which in many ways have similarities, but because of rampant corruption never are able to properly feed their poorest.
There is always a choice, Apple simply chose to comply in order to sell product/services/etc in China. Not passing judgement, just stating facts. Saying "Apple had no choice but to comply" makes them sound like a victim, which they are not, they are a complicit partner.
Don't look now, but Apple is back in the ad game and looking to get even deeper. They quietly started with ads in Apple News. Brought ads into the App Store on searches. Recently they've doubled down and created an additional ad slot that surfaces paid placement ads in the App Store. With that cemented, they've been strongly courting advertisers to get on board with their ad platform. And I will always say it: the only reason Apple keeps touting the Privacy argument (which is a fallacy anyway) is because they ended their ad business, otherwise they would be mining our breath to sell us different kinds of mint
What about EU, north/South America, Jason, korea, India, etcChina has 851.2M smartphone users and has 988.2M internet users. China has more netizens than America has people.
It is, they can simply follow Google’s model of do not evil, oh wait… That one didn’t last long either…It's not a decision they can make. Following the local laws is the only option other than being kicked out from the largest market in the world.
If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell. 🤣“China data center is using the most advanced encryption technology available, which is more advanced than what Apple uses in other countries.”
Happy for the Chinese on this point but given that Apple has the ability to up its encryption game in China, why isn’t it doing this everywhere?
