Update 3: The Loop's Jim Dalrymple has confirmed that there will be no iPads introduced at Apple's September 10 iPhone media event.

Impossible. Jim Dalrymple is not an a direct Apple employee thus he can not definitively say anything will or will not be at a keynote. And since Apple does not give keynote specifics before keynotes, we know for fact, Jim Dalrymple has not confirmed anything. He is just taking an educated guess based on the information he has at hand.

His no, is means just as much as if you or I or any other non Apple employee said no. I understand this is a rumour website. And I'm cool with reporting analysts wishes and expectations. But saying someone's educated guess is a conformation of future Apple plans/doings is so very wrong and misleading. Jim Dalrymple very well may be right, his information and sources might be on the money. But it's still only his expectations based on what information he has.

In short, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE outside Apple can confirm (to a 100% certainty) any future Apple doing or products. Saying otherwise disrespecting the people who read the MacRumors articles and partake in the forums here.

If Jim Dalrymple was a directly linked to Apple he would be breaking several NDAs to say this kind of thing.

here goes my hope for iPhones and iPads on September ...

Might be a let down and boring event (talking 2 hours of iPhones and iOS without a real WOW-effect and radical innovation) ... --- ... but then again, I thought so also before WWDC and was proven wrong.
Better this way then the other way round, so rock us Apple! :)

:apple:

Silly not to

It seems silly not to include iPads in the Sept 10th announcement. You can't convince me that the new ones aren't ready and the holiday season is already compressed as it is. What good is it to have two separate events for essentially the "same" devices - iPhone and iPad...

What about the 4S event?

They will spend much more than 5 minutes on the fingerprint reader. It's quite new technology that requires explanation as to security and implementation.

Like every other event, they'll initially discuss sales figures after first discussing their Apple Stores around the world. When they get to the phones, they'll discuss both the 5S and 5C.

And what about iOS 7? This event will be where it's truly showcased to the press and public. They'll reshow the features, talking about things like iTunes Radio, and possibly mention something new. Additionally, they are likely to introduce some new iPods. There may even be a MacBook Pro refresh and, with it, Mavericks.

They have plenty to talk about, even without the Mac stuff.

Agreed plenty to talk about. But also still time for a Mini refresh with a faster processor.

Besides unlocking your phone, is the fingerprint sensor going to do anything else? Will it enter passwords for you? (Which would allow you to store some long passwords and enter them with single touch.)

i was really excited when read that the ipad 5 and the ipad mini 2 are also coming at the 10th Sep event, but then i saw the update and:(.... disappointment.

No kidding, makes me want to get a Blackberry Playbook. Ha ha! Not

So I'm looking to buy a retina mini, is the thought that they will be coming out Q4 of this year? If not I may just buy a new one now.

Please excuse me, I have to bring my wrist watch to the computer museum now. My iPad also has a clock inside.
Exactly. I've stopped wearing watches 10 years ago. There is always a screen with a clock around me. Time is over. Knowing the right time is becoming increasingly useless, without information about scheduling and navigation. Why do you think smartphones are such a big deal? Time is only interesting within an app, telling me for example when the next train is leaving. Time as a stand-alone product? Old-fashioned, antiquated, outdated.
Of course, e-ink reader were never NEAR any potential of a tablet because of their specialized purpose. E-Book reader sell very good for what they are built, and that's the only standard of valuation.
I hear, Ferraris sell very good for what they are built. Still I have never seen one on the street. And that's my standard of valuation. Kindles belong in a category of things of which I know they exist, because I've seen them on TV – like spacecraft Enterprise.

The cake is a lie. Sales start to increase with color screens, full-frame video and 99$ price point. Which makes them low-cost tablets not e-readers. It's not a reader if it shows a video. It's becoming a tablet-shaped multi-purpose device. Less purposes than an iPad, that's why they are loosing money. Samsung is about to introduce their Galaxy Gear on September 4 during IFA in Berlin. We all know, it would be a huge failure, if all it could do was telling the time and being a fashion statement. And you can't even wear e-readers as a fashion statement. No one will announce a new e-reader that not also is an Android tablet with a store. Never again.

They were releasing a totally new product so a separate event made sense. This year perhaps not

A good point. However, iPhone 5S + iPhone 5C, Retina iPad Mini, iPad 5, new Mac Pro. Could all fit into one presentation I suppose, but it might be a bit crammed.

Scratch Mac Pro. It was announced at WWDC. No reason to repeat it

And if the iPad mini were to get retina it would be likely the same as the iPad 5 just smaller. Or a lot wuicker to talk about

Though The loop says nope for iPads in Sept 10th. So they will appear later, perhaps with this mystery TV thing.

Okay, I think we can stop this discussion here, as we are moving in circles - just want to remind you for the last time that the origin of all this was: The OP said that he suffers from eye fatigue when reading on his iPad and I suggested to him, that IN THIS CASE, he should consider a separate e-ink device. If eye fatigue isn't a problem you have to consider, be happy with your all-in-one-solution. But again, don't be an ignorant dick without any fantasy for other user scenarios. Maybe you should read the other replies to your comments in this thread. And by the way, even without the eye fatigue aspect – I would still choose a separate e-book reader, especially while traveling, because of reading in the sun and its crazy battery life which leaves my precious iPad multi-use tablet battery charged for surfing the web, watching video, playing games etc. - all the things this baby can do much better. I go this far to consider draining the battery by "only" reading books on my iPad for hours "wasted" and simply grab my Kobo for this – which adds only 184 gram weight in my backpack. Perfect deal, but very shocking logic in your eyes, I know... Try to not let your head explode. We got it, you're the man of the future. And please, for god's sake, don't come AGAIN with the argument that tablets sell better than e-book readers and take over a significant part of their share - of course they do for casual readers like you, but are you really that simple-minded or why do you, even after my posts, NOT understand that this doesn't have to be the buying argument? If I needed to drive through the deep woods all the time - should I get a mountain bike or a normal city bike, just because the last one is bought by more people around me and better/enough suited for their intended use?

TD,DR: Doesn't matter, hopeless case.

Are you saying that you have not seen a Kindle in the street? Really?

I think the iPad 5 will get a lot of hype, as it's rumoured to have a redesign, and hasn't actually changed in appearance since the iPad 2. (Other than thickness.)

A redesign is still not a new product. It will more likely be a hyped up family of products. Perhaps including a revamped ATV box and maybe new display that could be used with it (with the Mac Pro quietly launching at the same time)

Unless you are yourself an Apple employee you have zero info about Jim's relationship with Apple or what he is or isn't permitted by them to say

No one said there wouldn't be anything that wasn't left un-updated

Kindle: The Ferrari of books.

Nice, perhaps we'll see a retina iPad mini

Really have to otherwise it would be another year or so wait. It has been too long as it is based on some other tablets another year would just be too long. If they do it should be a god choice.

I think some people may care about watches again if they do much more then tell time. I have not watched a watch in years either because I have my phone and can't really stand tight things yet I could see some people picking a smart watch up if it is far more useful than a standard watch.

Are you saying that you have not seen a Kindle in the street? Really?
No what I'm saying is: I have never ever seen a Kindle anywhere. Not in the street and not even in stores.
And I have seen Microsoft Surface in store, with the Touch Cover glued to the table, so no one could steal it.

Kindle is Amazons Zune ... Craig Ferguson never saw one either.

Every book shop here has its own e-reading solution and they are also not tempting me. If I ever want to have a single-purpose reading device with crazy battery life and no eye-fatigue, I'm buying a book.

From Amazon, because I want to have it cheap. :p

Your logic is faulty, mountain bikes (like SUVs) work just fine in the city, but are best off road. That's why I have one. Your e-reader/formula-one-car doesn't work on normal streets, because it has not enough ground clearance to handle even the smallest unevenness of the floor. It needs a special built reading/racing track where it can shine and drive circles around its only purpose. To be a pastime diversion for people with too much money and no idea what to better do than waste it.

Sorry, I really doubt Apple will show the 5G iPad and 2G iPad mini on September 10, 2013.

My guess is that Apple will show the new iPad models on October 8, 2013 and start selling it on October 18, 2013 (maybe October 11, 2013 if Apple starts production now).

It's official, guys: Amazon sold exactly zero Kindles till this day.
We have only one official number from Amazon regarding Kindles.
And that's that they are making zero dollars on hardware by selling them at cost.

Despite giving them away, their market share (outside the US) is abysmal.

According to a report by research firm Localytics, out of all the Android tablets out there in the world, 59% the overall tablets worldwide are based in the U.S.— with an astounding 33% of those tablets being an original Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD ... Even more astounding about this study is that outside of the U.S., Kindle Fire are essentially non-existent as 89% of Amazon’s tablet models are in the States, followed by a much smaller percentage of models being found in Great Britain and an even smaller percentage of Amazon tablet models out in other markets worldwide.
