So if we get a single size strap for the 45/49mm watches, does that mean that Hermes are going to have to start making 45mm straps that fit small wrists?

First, how is the front facing camera better on my phone than on my laptop?

Your phone is thicker than a laptop lid. Good cameras are necessarily thicker.

How has Face ID not been integrated? Why do I have to reach over to my laptop when using a second screen?

See above. Face ID hardware is thicker than a laptop lid.

AMOLED on a "Pro" laptop seems like a no brainer.
Touch screen will never happen. It would undermine iPad - but iPad running MacOS optionally would be great.
5G has also seemed like a no brainer. Again, why not make it available for "pro's" and capture extra revenue?

You and I agree on these counts. OLED and cellular would be game changers for MacBooks.

But in all seriousness, stuff like this takes time to develop and implement. It's not as easy, especially for super-vertically-integrated Apple, as buying an OLED screen to drop into a MacBook. Same issue for cell, cameras, etc.

I've gotta disagree here. I specifically remember being annoyed in 2006 when the new MacBooks came out with Bluetooth, FireWire, a webcam, and other features that other laptops at the time didn't have. I posted on some site like this one that I didn't want to pay extra for these features that I didn't need and wasn't going to use.
IIRC the only thing there that was new in 2006 was the built-in iSight camera. My aluminum Powerbook in 2003 already had Firewire 800, Bluetooth, and a CardBus expansion slot. By 2006 Bluetooth was becoming pretty common, even on Windows.

(Side note: I liked those cylindrical external iSight cameras, from way back then, that would mount on the top of your display)

Apple doesn’t put the newest chip into the base iPad anymore. Ever since Apple chose to fragment the iPad lineup, the base iPad gets about a two-year-old chip in it. So it’d be more likely to see A16 in the iPad 11. Probably A18 in iPad Mini 7, though.

Before Apple AI yes. But unless they intend to fragment the product line up even further by excluding certain devices from accessing Apple AI everything in the lineup needs at least an A18 with 8GB RAM

I’m quite certain that Apple is going to make the A18 the base SoC for most product lines. However, Apple treats the base iPad like the unwanted child… It would be ideal to have such power, A18+8GB of RAM, across the line starting from the $400 iPad 11, but I’m afraid that won’t happen just yet. Maybe for the iPad 12…

The New MacBook Pro:

- AMOLED display
- Touchscreen
- Face ID
- 2K resolution front facing camera
- Metal backlit keyboard
- Trackpad with built in signature capture
- Surround sound speaker tech
- 5G cellular connectivity options with e-sim.

Took me 5 minutes to come up with that list. Mush for brains Tim does this for a living and still can't figure out that a laptop like this would sell like hotcakes. This is why he needs to be fired and replaced with someone who actually know what they're doing.
Apple will probably never do a touchscreen laptop.

I’m with you on that.
But I still really need my Apple products, the Mac’s mostly, an iPad and an iPhone is good to have to.
But beyond the immediate products for me, I look at other places/products as much as I can today.
No Apple products that I yearn for now, at all.

The aging Tim will soon be replaced, hopefully sooner than later.
Hope next CEO will change things to the better at least 😀
I'm down to Mac only. Switched to the Google Pixel 8 last year.

I admire your optimism and I hope you’re right. Apple Intelligence is the most buzz-worthy thing Apple can talk about right now, so leaving any device behind does seem foolish.

Yeah but the lack of blood O2 kind makes the endurance metrics a bit lacking now. I haven’t updated because of this. Even thought the VO2 isn’t the best it’s still useful.
But this is still in the watch right? They just need to turn it back on. Non us still has it.

Base iPad refresh. If they want to keep it inline with Apple Intelligence it’s going to need an A18 chip with at least 8GB RAM.

I’d they keep the price the same, which they should, it would steal millions of sales from the other iPads.
Eventually they’ll have to give it AI. I’m guessing a price increase will come at some point.

new apple tv?
They may have to wait until next year to release the fourth generation Apple TV 4K because this year the iPhone 16 lineup will get priority for the A18. Once demand cools down for them, then A18 production will be sufficient for releasing both the next Apple TV and iPad mini 7 with the A18 which will not only make Apple Intelligence possible for both devices, but console gaming as well like you have with the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max.

I think they treat the iPad mini like the unwanted child. So many people buy the base iPad, but the iPad mini remains a niche. A niche that I want to join! So hurry up Apple, don’t make me wait till March!

So the 7th generation iPad mini and 4th generation Apple TV 4K are coming out possibly in the first half of next year? Probably has something to do with the increased availability of the A18 by then.
The IPad Mini 6 is already 3 years old and is still being sold with a ridiculous 64gb. I bought a very cheap second-hand iPad Mini 4 as a transitional device until the Mini 7 was released. It has 64GB and this SSD was too small to synchronise with my ICloud. I don't need 256GB and they are just too expensive for me, with 128GB I get by very well on my mobile devices.
Ipads with 16 and 32 GB SSDs are still available on the second-hand market, but nobody will buy them.
I hope they will release the Mini 7 at the Mac event in autumn.

I want 120hz OLED in the MacBook Air like PC ultraportable laptops have, while they have 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD for a similar price.

I don’t know if this will comfort you but, I don’t see the reason for Apple to not use the upcoming A18 as the iPad mini 7 silicon heart. Let’s see: currently it has an A15, the A16 is almost two years old, and the A17 is built using N3B, a rather expensive and low yield process, which Apple wants to move from ASAP. That’s why I honestly think the A18 is going to be adopted through all the mid-high range product lines.

The iPad mini, despite being updated every 2-3 years, belongs to the mid-high range of Apple products: Got an expensive redesign, got magnetic Apple Pencil 2 support, laminated display, and was one of the first Apple devices-other than the iPhone- to receive the awesome, powerful and supper efficient (in 2021) industry-leading A15 SoC. In fact, it only needs a high refresh rate display and 8GB of RAM to be -almost- on par with the iPad Pro line; and I have the feeling that the iPad mini 7 will receive at least one of those features, maybe both.

I honestly think it’s very likely for the mini to get the A18, 8GB of RAM, and Apple Intelligence. The base iPad 11 on the other hand… honestly knowing Apple and how treats the cheapest iPad (using old chips to cut costs), I’m afraid it will probably receive an A15 or A16 SoC and 4-6GB of RA, leaving without Apple Intelligence. That way, the base iPad could keep playing its two roles in Apple’s product catalog: 1) Being a cheap, student oriented tablet, and 2) pushing you upwards in the iPad product ladder, making you consider the next step in the price point (iPad mini, or iPad Air) almost a no brainer decision.

I think I’ll get an AppleTV when they update it with an A18 SoC…

Both Face ID and Touch ID, double security, please.

But 'm waiting for the Mac mini M4 Max and maybe a new AppleTV 4K "Ultra ray tracing" :p

Although I'd expect that an ATV 4K, HomePod 3 or HomePod mini 2 (with wifi 6/7) won't be announced until October / November when the holiday season shopping starts.

Apple was a much better company when it was more niche on its comeback trail.
I totally agree... But once the comeback was complete they then had to shift to growth, profits, stock price.... and that means cutting corners and trying to sell to as many people as possible and not just a niche group...... There's only so much growth when you're niche unfortunately.

Under Tim Cook yes the focus has shifted to purely growth, profit and share price. Which is why Apple is just a terrible company right now.

If Steve Jobs was still alive it would be completely different. His whole philosophy was different. Customer satisfaction first then profit. As I keep saying, Steve Jobs never paid dividends it was Tim Cook who started doing it.

Focus on the product and the rest will follow.

Couldn't be more underwhelmed! Total lack of innovation, scrabbling to produce something useful with AI (....in the future) - but wait I can get the iPhone in a super new colour (probably, maybe). FYI - No one even looking at the Vision Pro in the London store last weekend..although I was advised by an in store 'genius' to always buy the Pro Max as it was going to be the fastest phone...doh!. The great founder of this company must have rolled over in his grave so many times since Tim Cook took over, even his skin would be wearing thin by now!
