It also helps that Apple doesn't pay taxes on much of its revenue, by keeping almost 2/3 of its cash outside the US..
Someone hack your account? For someone who usually has insightful opinions (even if I do not often agree) these missives are bonkers and pedantic. And as to Apple and taxes, like most US based corporations they pay all taxes required and allowed by US tax code. They also pay foreign taxes as well. The reason they leave money off shore is because they don't want to get socked with a huge tax bill for repatriating all that money that was earned (and taxed) in other countries. I don't necessarily agree with that, or even our brain dead congress that can't get out of its own way and reform the tax code, but there is nothing morally or legally wrong with this action. Want to look for shenanigans, check out Google and the double Irish loophole.

While I agree with your opinion, I need to correct a fact: Apple invented the double Irish.

That was back in the 80's, before Google existed.

I didn't say anything about the legality or morality of avoiding taxes.

I simply stated the undeniable fact that not paying ~30% US taxes on the majority of their net income helps their profit margins. (I think it saves them $50 to $100 per phone.)

Of course, subsidies are the biggest helper. In regions without them, the iPhone usually struggles to get 10% of the market.

This is unacceptable, if the iPhone 6 has decent, acceptable specs ie. 32GB entry, 2GB ram, at least 12mp cam (this is not much, but this is the decent market entry options, not even the high end) then the price would be more justifiable, except it's absolute ****.

Your opinion on megapixels outs you as a "spec" man can only see numbers, but cannot see the actual quality. Everyone with a bit of knowledge on cameras knows that for the sensor used in a smartphone, increasing the resolution from 8 to 12 megapixels will only serve to vastly reduce the quality in many conditions.

Apart from that, fact is that you are quite alone with your opinion. Maybe not on macrumors, but among potential phone customers. People wouldn't buy iPhones if they didn't think that they are worth the money, and that they are more worth the money than competing products. It's a fact, as proven by the premise of this thread, that Apple is making 92% of all profits in the smartphone market. If the iPhone 6 was _really_ unacceptable, total sales would be 0.

Yup.

Apple doesn't sell on spec, they sell a solution to a problem - hardware spec is only part of that solution. Software is a massive other part of it.

if you're (not gnasher729, the other guy) interested in comparing spec-sheets on paper (or have some pressing need for 100 mhz faster CPU, or a GPU for gaming or something), go play in the PC world, and see how that works out for you.
