I find this comment hard to believe. Let's have some context on this. I come from the Windows Mobile world. My devices hardly ever have even minor OS updates made available for the devices, never mind major OS releases. To get the latest OS means purchasing a new device. And in the desktop world a new OS for $10 is a dream.
The main features of OS 3.0 are just as relevent to iPod Touch users as iPhone users. Spotlight, Copy and Paste, faster browsing are all obvious worthwhile enhancements.
And I can't beleive that nobody has mentioned the most obvious reason why 2nd Gen iPod Touch owners should upgrade:

"Every iPod Touch (2nd Gen onwards) has a Broadcom BCM4325 chip inside, which in addition to supporting WiFi also supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. However the Bluetooth in the iPod Touch was disabled - until iPhone 0S 3.0. The upgrade has unlocked and enabled Bluetooth on the device. The hardware unlocking combined with the new API's made available to programmers in OS 3.0 allows the iPod Touch to talk to other iPods/iPhones for peer-to-peer gaming, exchanging data, and connectivity with 3rd party peripherals such as headsets, computers, speakers, car accessories, A2DP laptops/watches and more."
I definitely recommend that everybody who owns an iPod Touch 2nd Gen device does the upgrade. For $10 you get Bluetooth on your device and the latest features. You also stay in sync with the community so that you can take advantage of the latest software and the features developers will bring to life over the next few months.
