Trend Micro: Android Malware Likely to Increase Up to 25-Fold by Year’s End!
http://www.mactrast.com/2012/07/android-malware-epidemic-expected-by-years-end/

"According to the report, the firm found over 5,000 malware apps specifically targeted at Android devices at the beginning of the year – and that number has risen dramatically, to around 20,000 apps in a more recent accounting. That’s more that quadruple the number of malware threats in just over 6 months!"

"Meanwhile, iOS has had a grand total of one malware attack ever – and it’s debatable whether that should even be considered malware!"

Hmmmmm......think I will stick with the most secure mobile OS and the one that "just works - iOS!" :D

I'm sure there would be zero home break-ins if houses were constructed entirely without doors and windows as well.

Yet "The Steve" is listed in Time Magazine's list of 20 Most Influential Americans of All Time. Could you show me what number Ballmer and Gates are listed at?

*Crickets*

Those lists are just silly, and they are made 100% to sell copies of magazines, I wouldn't care really whos in them, TIME realized they can sell these copies to Macheads by the pallet load, and he just died. He's a hot topic.

Top 100, sure. Top 20. No way. And Ballmer is an idiot.

Gates might not be on that list, but he will be remembered much longer than Jobs will, we'll most likely see him remembered much like Nobel and Carnegie.

You're continuing your link spam. If you really can't add to the discussion, maybe you shouldn't post? Just my .02

And the link you posted hasn't seemed to deter people from choosing Android, now has it. Just like virus attacks haven't stopped people from choosing windows. So what do you think that tells you?

That's too bad for them. :(

I don't doubt the numbers, but I have a hard time believing it means anything real. When you travel around in public places, how often do you seen a Samsung Galaxy (S1, 2, OR 3) vs an iPhone? I see a Samsung Galaxy like once every couple of weeks. I see iPhones EVERYDAY. And a LOT of them.

Your experience. I see tons of Android phones (Galaxy line especially) all over about the same as iPhones here in NYC. That's not to say I don't see a lot of iPhones. I just see a similar amount of Samsung phones too.

EVERYDAY.

And a LOT of them :)

BTW - the #s are worldwide too. Maybe the US might have a big chunk of iOS walking around - but that doesn't mean it's the same around the world.

Yes. I said that was my experience. Perhaps it's different here in Portland. Most of my friends are non-techie types. Every single one of them owns an iPhone. That's about 25 iPhones. I know of one person at work who owns a Samsung Galaxy S1. And that's it. My dataset might not be completely representative, but I don't think Apple has to worry too much about Samsung just yet.

Furthermore, the shipment doesn't match up with the usage numbers based on browsing statistics which show iOS as the overwhelming majority vs Android. And this lumps in Samsung with the rest of the Android makers. http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-03-13/tech/31158768_1_ios-android-ipad

75% of user are using Android 2.3 and beyond

Of that 75%, the vast majority are on 2.3, i.e. "the leftover crap" of years past. And still, the latest Android iteration cannot be had on all new Android hardware, adding to the problem.

On the flipside. Up until a few weeks ago I was on 2.3.something on my Skyrocket and I didn't find anything lacking. Granted it's my first Android phone - but the features/etc had everything iOS did on my iPhone 4 (as far as my uses) and more.

Different strokes for different folk. Leftover crap is your hyperbole.

I agree. I see iPhones (best smart phone) everywhere downtown. I see people sitting outside the plethora of coffee houses in my city with their MBA's and MBP's (best laptops), and of course iPads (best tablets) were all over the cabin on my latest flight out of MSP. :apple:

I just got back from Chicago. Same thing there. Apparently, similar scenes can be had in places like Fortune 500 companies where Android has been on the decline.

Incidentally, I also saw a lot more Macs in businesses of all types (retail, tech, food, corporate) that I don't remember noticing during previous visits.

It's an extinction event called the "The Great Windows dying".

The Galaxy SIII is WAY WAY WAY better hardware than the 4s. WAY better. The problem with the Galaxy is the OS. IOS is way better than droid. Its pretty much a hardware vs software battle in my opinion.

Totally agree. The hardware (except for the cheap crappy plastic cases) is pretty awesome but the OS sucks BIG TIME. It's buggy, ugly and a product of stolen ideas from apple.

So using your logic, Apple stole ideas from RIM, Palm, And Microsoft and Nokia? Because iOS barrows from all of those, and they all came before iOS right?

Yes I'm so sick of this. Just because Jobs said "we patented 200 inventions" doesn't mean anything.

Steve Jobs also didn't know the first thing about the hardware he was selling, Post iPod all he was, was a marketing head.

The big boys before iOS were Palm, Nokia, Windows Mobile, and RIM. Sure none of them were as popular, because phones were MUCH more expensive back then. But iOS barrows from all of them, as does android.

Such a useful post. We know Apple still is rooting and paying this Korean maker to provide integral parts to their iOS devices. This Korean maker is fast.

You forgot they make the best HDTV's too. Surpassing Apple's former idol, Sony, in that department years ago.

Very good post.

However, Samsung doesn't make the best HDTV's by any standards. Yes their nice to look at, from a design standpoint. But good TV's they are not.

Plagued with light bleed, awful black level and poor contrast, they fall behind lgs lm7600 and up series, and sony's hx8xx series.

So no. Samsung maybe selling the most TV's along with LG, but from a picture standpoint their TV's arent good. Important to note im talking up the LED's. Last years D8000, and this years ES8000. Their plasma es8000 is all right. But still get beaten by vt50 and a few others.

Based on what? Please explain to us why Jelly Bean on a Galaxy Nexus is a piece of ****. What are you basing that on? Oh that's right -- nothing.

I said I think. Ie in my own opinion. We are all entitled to our own opinions. If you like the Android OS, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Well to be honest you don't find anything lacking because you haven't used jellybean. Google did an amazing job with it. Of course you'll think what you're using now is fine but the difference between jellybean and gingerbread is pretty pronounced.

Regardless, gingerbread had been out since 2010. It's not like the skyrocket is a crappy phone. I think you're being complacent being ok with having an almost two year old OS on such a great phone.

I think you misunderstood. My point is that Jellybean might be amazing. But Gingerbread is far from crap. Maybe by comparison. But as an OS - Gingerbread (well now I'm on ICS). was a solid and stable OS that has great features and functionality.

In short - just because X percentage of devices are on Gingerbread still doesn't mean they are in the dark ages. Any more than someone on iOS 4.o vs 5.0. (save maybe notification). Point is - neither 4.0 or Gingerbread is useless or crappy unto themselves.

Oh ok gotcha..yeah no gingerbread isn't crap unto itself but it definitely is compared to jellybean lol.

I finally think Google got it right with jb. It just sucks that the skyrocket will most probably not get jellybean at all (and if it does it'll be several months and by that time the next one will be out).

You're forced to buy a new phone to enjoy features that you should have (or maybe just want) because your phone is top of the line. It's like forced obsolescence not planned!

Google now is amazing imo. Unfortunately very few Android users will experience it anytime soon.
