They should integrate the Airport Time Capsule into this device. I absolutely love my families time capsule! It provides super fast wifi with insane range, and all of our computers are backed up so easily. It's classic apple. It just works. So please apple update it.

I think it's a matter of perspective. In this case I have the watch and the Echo and can make a very informed decision on the relative value of each. I also don't think it's necessary to have echoes/dots in every room. While it sounds nice to say "for security reasons" it doesn't follow that anything not HomeKit is insecure. I just find using the watch interface clunky and much slower. If I had to choose between the Echo or the watch I'd pick the Echo.

Hey different strokes right?

Looks like you found a use case which is great for you because it made your life a bit more convenient.

Great for me that I found my existing devices did the job better because it saved me money. :)

Apple doesn't usually unveil a new hardware category at WWDC, but since they will be introducing 'Siri Skills" into iOS 11 they will want to have devs immediately coding Siri Skills into it. Probably for retail launch in October.

Maybe I missed it (there's a lot here), but wouldn't it make sense that this would be the new AppleTV? Schiller said it needs a screen... well, an AppleTV uses a screen you already have and are already using. If I remember correctly, we were hearing rumors of a refreshed AppleTV toward the end of last year and then heard nothing on that front, but started hearing about this new device. Why couldn't they be one and the same?

Is your tv always on and touch capable?

I think the problem is that integrating too much functionality together is that some people end up paying extra for features they don't need or want. What if I want to place the Siri speaker in the kitchen or my bedroom where there is no optic fiber access point?

I suppose a case could be made for a family of Siri-enabled speakers. One basic speaker, one with a built-in router etc?

I'm a major Apple Fanboy. I was late to the party. I didn't buy in until the Apple 3GS. But Apple has been late to the party with several devices and has been out front with others. The smart watch was one. Tired of waiting for the Apple Watch to be debuted, I had a Pebble for a year before Apple released theirs. Just like now, I've got five Echo devices because I want this kind of technology and Apple hasn't decided to deliver it, yet. As for tablet, iPad was the greatest and perfect release. The Apple Pencil is another great and timely release.
I appreciate your reply, though I'm still not sure what value you or anyone sees in the speakers. Pretty much everything these mini speakers purport to do seems covered by what Siri already does. Whenever I have a question for the Internet I say "hey Siri" and my nearby iPhone or iPad answers. When I want my Hue lights to turn on or off, anywhere in my home, I discreetly whisper it into my watch (rather than yelling across the room). And when I want to hear music, Siri does a great job of finding whatever I want and playing through the speakers of my 100 watt home entertainment system, which blows away any standalone speaker that might rest on my kitchen counter. Which is why I'm waiting to see what Apple come up with before investing in any such speaker, if I do at all. At this point, it just feels like a duplication of benefits I already get from my existing ecosystem, with the disadvantage of perhaps not working as well with loud music or TV already playing in the background. If there are any other benefits you like about your Alexa devices I'd be curious to hear about them.

There's just a ton of bugs that pop up all the time. A lot of unresponsiveness, and at times it's incoherent. I mean the fact that the post you quoted has the most likes in this thread might mean there's some merit to it, haha.
Do you know, statistically, that there are no/fewer bugs with Alexa or Google lady? Or are you just dissing the category via the one product you are familiar with?

And with all the trolls and haters on the Mac Rumors forums, citing "likes" as some kind of meaningful metric is obviously an exercise in futility.

The Echo is convenient and works very well. Sure Siri can do many of the things Alexa can do, not all but some. But my iPhone will need to be docked or connected to a Bluetooth speaker. I'll need to stop the music or news to reply to a text message or answer a call.

And yes, I said Siri cannot do everything Alexa can. Alexa can start my car and set the temperature of the air in it. Alexa will read me the news or play a radio station. Also, it's convenient.

Can we now say that there is a 100% chance?

I'm eagerly looking forward to an announcement. I hope that Apple does like Amazon including multiple models.

How Apple may compete with Amazon’s Echo and Google Home

Speculation over what Apple will do to compete in the home hub market is spinning up ahead of Apple's annual developers conference next week, where many analysts expect the company to confirm the project. And what will be the Apple home hub's distinguishing feature? It may be sound quality, according a report from Bloomberg News.

The Siri-infused speaker will really focus on producing quality surround sound and may also have a feature that can measure the room it's in and adjust its sound accordingly, the report said. Although there were no details on how this room-adapting feature works, it sounds similar to one already on Sonos speakers, called Trueplay, that uses the microphone in an iOS device to measure a room.
