New issue arose today with 12.6.5 😓
iOS 13.1 cannot be installed by this version of iTunes. It will download but won't put on the phone and throws the error message shown here. 😭View attachment 863324
It feels like Apple is doing every little thing behind the scene to piss off its hardcore users. 🤬
Apple has been doing so for a very long time. No surprise here. The solution is to carry a clean install of Catalina for this purpose. I did it a few days ago because iTunes 12.6.5 no longer supports newer iOS install.

The issue is, without iTunes 12.6.5, I cannot load multiple devices with the apps by downloading only once.
Comcast is a (fill in the blank) with home internet where it sets a limit of data.
Some of those PS4 game updates are over 5GB a pop!

Nobody in Apple cares about people who has a data cap or limited bandwidth. From this point, you need to get Catalina on a USB drive (so your current OS remains unaffected) and do a full backup of your current OS. Internet recovery or local recovery won’t download anything older than Mojave anymore. By doing that, you can keep using iTunes 12.6.5 for as long as possible until Apple decides to completely disable this version of iTunes.

Someone suggests iMazing, and it is being sold at a dirt cheap $6. You may give it a shot. Check the post in previous Page.

Unfortunately, never figured out how to use Configurator. In addition, already bit the bullet and tossed the towel on the SE. (Still has a X and an 8 that can be used as test bed once the apps are iOS 13 compatible)
Apple is really trying to force us to pay for a 3rd party app...first Dashboard, and now iTunes...

Still running iTunes 12.6.5. Just updated my iPhone to 13.1 (through the device since iTunes won't install the update.) Now I'm getting this message on my Mac. Anyone know if this will install a new version of iTunes or is it just background stuff that won't affect anything? Software update is required to connect to your iOS device
If in doubt, Do a full backup of your Mac first. Other people says there is nothing serious happen for installing this update, probably only to provide basic connectivity. I installed the same package early on from Xcode beta to solve the same issue.

It is safe to update, that will install the MacOS package Mobile Device version 1.0.0.0.
I couldn't update an iPhone from 13.1 to 13.1.1 using iTunes 12.6.5, but it worked with Apple Configurator.
After that, the iPhone with iOS 13.1.1 was visible in iTunes.

Yeah, we regularly have to update 4 iPhones and 3 iPads via WiFi now. I'm going to start downloading apps once with iMazing and use that to install them onto the devices - just have to read the manual.

Anyways, by 9/25/19 I had only used 570GB of my 1024GB allowed. Then my iTunes and iPhotos got messed up on iMac and I downloaded about 150GB of stuff that needed to be re-downloaded. Then my Dropbox was constantly syncing on my MacBook and I had to sign out and remove my dropbox folder, then sign back in and let it sync. By the 27th I was up to 775GB used. I'm thinking, "No problem. I only use about 20-25GB a day, I'll be fine."

Yesterday, 9/29/19 my son had me update the Xbox before coming home from college, and we went over our 1024 GB limit after updating just 19 Xbox One X apps! OMG 19 Xbox app updates used up 250 GB in one day!

I am still waiting to bite the bullet on iMazing.
Considering that is a 3rd party app and we have a lot of personal info on our devices.

I'm not so worried about the personal info on my devices as I am that Apple can at any time release an update that prevents iMazing from working.

That would be a really annoyingly jerk move even by Apple's standard. 😭
It wouldn't necessarily need to be a jerk move. If iMazing is doing something that isn't officially supported, Apple is not under any obligation to make sure it keeps working.

For me, the bottom line is that if I'm going to have to work this hard to get Apple devices to work as I want them to, then I'm going to start shifting over to the competition that is less expensive and easier to work with.

I am currently using my old Mac purely for syncing my iPhone, so would like to get iTunes 12.6.5 running on my newer one running macOS Mojave 10.14.6. I would rather leave the default iTunes (12.9.5.5) alone, so used the instructions in post #213 to install a separate iTunes 12.6.app.

Whilst the install went well, it does not load because of this error:

Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/iPodUpdater.framework/Versions/A/iPodUpdater
Referenced from: /Applications/iTunes12.6.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes
Reason: image not found

I tried updating bogdanw's script so that it "installs" the app with the new name rather than simply renaming it, i.e. using the line (and updating subsequent references):

do shell script "cd ~/tmp/iTunesX.pkg;" & "cat Payload | gunzip -dc |cpio -i;" & "ditto ~/tmp/iTunesX.pkg/Applications/iTunes.app ~/tmp/iTunes12.6.app;"

But I get the exact same error, so for whatever reason it needs the framework to exist in "iTunes.app"

Has installing iTunes 12.6.5 using that method worked for anyone else? Or are the Framework references hard coded so I need to make a symlink to them inside the normal iTunes.app bundle?

Any advice will be appreciated, so I do not have to keep using an old laptop purely for my iPhone.

I would have happily tried using iMazing, but there are no bundles offering it at the moment. And as several have said, a third-party app could stop working at any point due to an Apple upgrade, so investing in a full price app of that type is too difficult for me to justify.

Sorry for that, it seems it doesn't work on a new Mojave install. I've posted another method of installing iTunes 12.6 without disabling SIP and keepeing iTunes 12.9 here https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ve.2142646/page-2?post=28061792#post-28061792
As you already installed iTunes 12.6, just copy iPodUpdater.framework from iTunes 12.6 to iTunes 12.9.

Thank you, I did not see there was another thread.

Rather than a copy I simply created a symlink in the Recovery Terminal, as I do not plan on moving the app, and it now loads okay.

cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/
ln -s ../../../iTunes12.6.app/Contents/Frameworks/iPodUpdater.framework

I still need to check it still has all the functionality I need, I know from other comments it does not work with Photos but I do not use that anyway.

I also replaced the iTunes.icns file with the one from iTunes 11 so the two versions will not be confused, but I may find another alternative as that one looks surprisingly dark in the dock. And I am not even in dark mode.

And then all of a sudden, the script to mass reset plays is no longer functional for iOS devices. (It still works with my iPod nano)

tell application "iTunes"

if selection is not {} then

set mySelection to selection

repeat with aTrack in mySelection

set played count of aTrack to 0

set played date of aTrack to missing value

set skipped count of aTrack to 0

set skipped date of aTrack to missing value

if aTrack is bookmarkable then set bookmark of aTrack to 0

end repeat

end if

end tell

Hey there. iTunes updates, for IPA files, not working for me. You folks experiencing the same thing?

I open an iTunes library. Click 'Updates' tab. See several apps needing updates. I click 'Update All Apps' button and the top-center status area says, in quick succession, 'Downloading <app #1>', 'Downloading <app #2>' etc but the top-right download indicator never appears. Same thing happens when I try to invoke an update individually -- i.e., for any given app.

iTunes v12.6.5.3. macOS v10.13.6.

Please help?

This issue has been there for quite a while for me. What I do is, delete the app needing an update from the library and re-download it. This works for me at the moment.

However, 1 thing I can’t get to work is, once I update an app from the computer, I can no longer update that app from the iDevice itself. That app keeps showing the cloud icon on the iDevice. To avoid this I’ve deleted the apps with the cloud icons and re-downloaded them from the App Store on iDevice itself.

But I can’t do that for WhatsApp. Because it will delete all the chat data on my iPhone. So, if/when the app updates from the computer break completely, I’ll get in a bit of a trouble.

IPA updates and downloads of new purchases are not working for me in Mojave and Catalina. Yesterday everything worked fine. I don't know if it is a temporary thing or Apple decided to pull the plug on iTunes.
PS I just tested on OSX 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 and the same problem occurs.

New purchases weren't working for me since sometime, beside IPA updates. What is new today I cannot update apps, even if they are listed. Maybe it's a temporary glitch ./ It would be STUPID if Apple decides to pull the plug because having several devices in my home it will multiply the use of Internet by several times , when it is so important to keep internet bandwidth available for more people RIGHT NOW . Going to write to Tim Cook

I'm afraid, after looking around and trying alternatives, the problem is on Apple servers:
Apple configurator is having the issue "Apple server not responding"
😩Apple : you are a disaster!!!
UPDATE: iMazing downloaded some apps
