Here’s the thing: Vision Pro doesn’t really get anything done that a tradition computer can’t.

AI gets things done that current market offerings can’t.

AI is the future, Tim. Doesn’t matter how cool you say something is, at some point people will stop buying things just because you say they are cool. Vision Pro is that ending. Focus on the real revolution: AI.
Pretty ironicyou say this when the Vision Pro’s entire operating system and all of its functions appear to be basically glued together by AI and machine learning.
You’re basically saying, “Apple stop focusing on AI and instead focus on only what *I* consider AI.
I don’t even understand how the two are comparable, AI is nothing without hardware in the vision pro is… Gasp… Hardware.

I am just going to upgrade to a 2019 Mac Pro . from a 2019 i9 27 inch iMac.

I am not happy with all the bugs I am finding in Sonoma.

And I still love a full tower Mac with plenty of upgrade options and easy to repair. Even if it is still Intel Mac.

I Love using Windows 11 just as much as macOS. And I can Install Windows on a 2019 Mac Pro.

You can on an ARM Mac too but good luck with ZERO Software support for ARM.

Vision Pro

Cook said that Apple is "very excited" about Vision Pro. "Everyone who has gone through the demos have been blown away," said Cook. "We're looking forward to shipping it next year.

That's good and great but the consumer market will be blown away when they will spend $3,500.00 on Apple Vision Pro. (Not including other accessories). The price is too steep!
When Apple launched the original Macintosh it retailed for $2500 USD in 1984 dollars, just over $7300 USD today. Once the technology matures it will drop in price.

Yes, Apple will produce content, what I meant to say is they will not charge extra for it.
Re the specific pair of eyeballs, what are you thinking here? I mean if I buy a movie today, I can share it via family sharing for example.
Family sharing will probably still work in this environment, but if a company like Disney wants to charge each user separately for a film that is playing concurrently in theaters, they could easily do this. This should mean lower costs to view the content. I’m probably off on my predictions, or maybe what I envision doesn’t matter until they have tens of millions of these devices shipped.

Windows on ARM has it’s own version of x64 emulation built in FWIW. It’s not perfect, and it’s not as good as rosetta2, but it’s not terrible either

Rumors have suggested that we won't see notable updates to iPads or Macs, with Apple having no plans to refresh the iPad Pro or the higher-selling Mac models until 2024. Apple will not have new products to offer this fall to attract iPad and Mac buyers.
But there are several other articles here on MacRumors talking about new Macs coming calendar Q4.

For the record though, I never did believe those articles.

What if the job to be done is Spatial Chillaxin? :)

I'll be having at least one set for the household, just based on what I have seen and been told from people who have tried them out.

Yah, we know it costs a lot. But everyone will still want it even if they can't or won't get it right away.

Apple IIe was $3300 for our set back in like c1981 - that was some big bucks - I had to fool my parents into getting it so mom could "keep her recipes on it and dad can do accounting on it"
Apple II was a completely new thing then, along with Trash80, etc... a computer in the home. The very first one! A great wonder!

Today, new Apple products are nothing more than yet another boring same old same old computer to add the the GIANT PILE of computers in every home in every modern country. The only reason to buy a new "whatever size" computer today, is to replace what was a previously fine, but now deliberately slowed to molasses computer, because of Apple's malicious irreversible updates and diabolical battery replacement process.

As soon as regular people learn to quit irreversibly updating their devices, so they stop slowing down and instead remain usable, Apple is in deep, deep trouble.

R&D is the fastest growing yet innovation has slowed to a crawl. Apple was innovating and disrupting industries while spending less than 1/10th of what Apple is spending now under Steve Jobs. Tim Cook’s Apple reminds me of IBM in the 80’s and Apple in the 90s. AI could be the disruption that turns Apple into the next Blackberry.

Exactly this. Just using ChatGPT for a few minutes it was quickly very clear to me that AI will completely transform technology. Whoever leads the charge with AI will win, hands down. VR doesn’t have a prayer.

I read this article two times & I am still trying to figure out what the two following statements from the article are supposed to mean.

"due to difficult compares" & "due to a tough compare as last year"

I'm stumped on those two. Is this being written buy a poorly trained AI bot, or are the proof readers asleep at the wheel?

Let’s be honest, revenues are down because for most products, pricing has gotten ridiculous. Especially in international markets. But we all know Apple’s solution will be to squeeze even more out of those willing to pay and not lower margins in favour of higher volumes.
It is probably also at the point where every product Apple sells, and has done for several years now, is at a point where it does everything that users needs, and fast at that, so there's not really much incentive to update, unless your product breaks. I think this is seen especially in the fact that 50% of Mac buyers are new to the platform. Apple is gaining Mac users, slowly, but steadily.

This is also a good reason why Apple has so high prices for its products. If people wanted to update every second year for major speed increases, a lower price would help with that. But when products don't need replacing, Apple are primarily selling to people that really need a new machine, and is willling to invest in it, and thus can charge more, because it will last.

They are in dire need at the moment, for a growth product, if they want to keep growing, and we will see if the Vision is that product. I'd be very surprised though, if they don't have at least one new major thing coming in the next 3-5 years. Car perhaps/finally.

There were a few big takeaways for me.
  • First, the Mac line beat estimates while the ipad line fell short. I think Apple needs to reevaluate the demand for real computers and what that term actually means. It was clear at one point they intended the iPad line to replace the Mac line but that was obviously backtracked to some degree. Apple would prefer a locked down system where they completely control what you can put on their products and how you use them. I think the market is showing that the iPad is good at casual media/internet consumption while the Mac is preferable for productivity and really everything else.
  • Two, Apple still has way too much of their revenue wrapped up in a single product (iPhone). The truth is that iPad & wearables are completely dependent on iPhone and not really independent segments. If iPhone declines they all fall with it. The only independent revenue streams are Mac and services. Services is independent with music and Apple TV plus and icloud to a lesser degree. I would be curious to know how services break down. How much of services is generated from only offering a small free tier for icloud backups? Apple TV plus has quite a few good shows on now. How is it preforming? I find it odd that Apple still makes it so hard for non iPhone owners to use the paid services. I don't see the advantage in keeping it exclusive when they're trying to expand.
  • Last, AI and the Vision Pro. I think Apple is aware they have too many eggs in just one basket which is why they're pushing these two items so hard. Tim says they've been investing in AI for years but gives no real detail or future timeline. While I'm sure the research is always happening I'm sceptical that they've put in the time and money required to be competitive with the big players in the field right now. Maybe they can buy their way in but I doubt they have an almost completed product ready to go toe to toe with Open AI, Microsoft or Google. Vision Pro could be a lot of things but it's still a product that Apple hasn't defined a use for yet. They're hoping developers will make it valuable but until they themselves say why it's a must have item it's just a way to keep the stock up between now and launch.

This surprises me. What about the rumors of MacBook Air with an M3 chip launching later this year?

The vision pro enables 3D view which no computer can do.

2nd Apple says that AI is crucial and they are working on it. They have thousands of engineers able to develop more than one product at a time. Especially when one is more hardware and AI just software…
