I love my base 13 in 2014 MBA. It's the best Apple product I have ever purchased ($750 at BB, with discounts), and I have bought a lot of Apple stuff.

The only thing I would change is to reduce the footprint by shrinking the bezel. Otherwise, it's an absolute Jim Dandy!

If you could put a dollar value on your confidence level, what would it be? It wouldn't be surprising to see aluminum MacBooks anodized in the same colours as their aluminum iPhones. At all. Will you still be confident if Apple releases a gold iPad in October?

If there is a gold iPad ill admit it's possible but I still think it would look tacky. I'm no designer though and I sure don't know better than Jony Ive. If I had to put a dollar bet on it today I'd say $100 (keep in mind I'm a poor teacher so that's a lot of money for me).

Because Jobs was above making silly colored computers right?

1) Others were there to make the design. Jobs just approved of it.
2) That was actually a great design. It was cheaper than the PowerBooks and a good investment for those needing a sturdy computer that could take the abuse of travel, thrashing into lockers, and the handle made it safer for smaller kids to handle.

It was a perfect example of function over form which made it a terrible Mac (sadly).

I'm probably gonna say this on every Macbook rumor thread:

Unify the Macbook lines to just be "Macbook"s. Get rid of the teardrop design. Have 12", 14", and 16".

Welcome to the new Apple, form over substance. You can get any color you want, but no 17 inch retina that would actually be a huge work saver for many.

For those wondering, the definition of "many" is "Not nearly enough to make a product commercially viable, but enough to complain about it in a forum for years after it becomes clear it's not happening."

I didn't know this was a secret and/or hard to do.

Three fingers does nothing for me. Or I can turn on 3 Finger Drag to "move with three fingers." Neither highlights text for me.

It does seem like gold is one of those colours which is only really gonna work on the iPhones and iPads (maybe iPods too?) but probably isn't appropriate for a desktop computer or laptop.

I'm not even convinced it'll work on an iPad. Too much gold and it just looks tacky. The iPhone is small enough and the actual gold-coloured panel on the 5S was small enough that it worked.

Take a look at the iPhone 6(+) in gold. Doesn't look nearly as nice or as classy. Sure the non-matching bands don't help, but I also think it's just too much.

Would someone please explain the point of this model? I have a MacBook Air of the latest generation. It is in no way thick. Why is 12 inches such a thing? Is this some device that's supposed to bridge iPads with MBAs? Otherwise I just don't get it.

makes sense.. in october the iPads will be updated with gold option.

space grey, silver, and gold macbook air makes sense!

18-karat gold or nothing.

"18 karat gold that our metaligists have developed to be up to twice as hard as standard gold."

That's right. Apple made gold better than gold.

I think it may be the same form factor as the 11 inch Air, but without the large bezel around the display.

Im posting this from a core 2 duo blackbook and would love a space grey laptop. I think the black macbook is still the best looking apple laptop in the past decade. If this rumor is true I will be all in!

Fanless = perfect.

As a byproduct of iOS development, Apple is continuing in the direction of making machines that aren't workhorses, and that's wise: most people are email, Facebook, Twitter and movie-streaming creatures. Very few do anything useful at all digitally.

Leave the loud, hot Apple designs for the machines needed by those who are actually doing something productive.

you rarely see ads with a white guy with a black girl. if you do she is very light skinned.

I know several couples. The skin tones cover many shades. No biggie.

Different times then. Apple needed to grab the attention of the consumer. Now the company is in a different position. I hope the keep the classic MBA. Offering color choices is OK. I just hope they don't eliminate the classic version.

Yep, you'll be pretty stylin' sitting at Starbucks sipping your Gold Coast coffee with your gold laptop, talking on your gold iPhone, all the while flashing that gold watch on your wrist.

Well if you see how "all of the sudden" pretty much every flagship phone by most of the major manufacturers is available in a variation of "gold", I'd say, yes, it is popular.

This thing is sounding more and more like some kind of iOS hybrid device. Fanless? Same screen size as rumored iPad Pro? iOS color options? With the A8 being 64-bit and 20% faster, imagine a quad-core version in a MBA. I think that would get it in the ballpark of Geekbench multi core scores for the current MBA. Clock it slightly higher and it's definitely competing in that space. Very interesting.

Gold iPhone 5S... Gold iPhone 6.... Gold iPhone 6 Plus... Gold iPad Air...

and it makes sense there will be a Gold MacBook Air.

I really really really hope this is true. I will be ordering this new macbook air ASAP regardless.

Seriously the delays in getting 14 nam hardware out the door is seriously crimping Apples line up.

Intel's CPUs are always delayed.... This is not news or unexpected.
It affects the whole PC industry not just apple.

Most importantly, will it play Crysis?
the current gen MacBook Air can play crysis 1, 2, and 3. 1 just fine, 2 is playable, and 3 is a mess but it will load.

The new macbook airs will have a slightly slower Intel HD 5300.
it will probably be able to load crysis 3, but not be playable.
